Topic: check, check, re check sources | |

well my point is that initial post is messed up. there were no computers when Abe was alive so there was no internet and he couldn't have talked about it unless he was talking about something else. I just wonder if that quote is accurate or did they replace a word to make it more relevant to today's youth? If they did that then that's just wrong. At least it is in my opinion. yes, that IS the point how the 'quote' is so obviously not possible but will be copied and pasted and believe to be true because its on the internet,,, and why people need to check, check, and recheck their sources (and their 'facts') Well if anyone believes he actually said that then they have to be complete idiots. I'm not a history buff. But I know enough to know that computers weren't invented till the 1900's and Abe was alive in the 1800's. Cars weren't even made yet. Booth had to make his escape on a horse. How can someone think that Abe could have possibly said anything about the internet. It would make more sense if he was quoted saying that about gossip, books or news papers. hahaha |

The abacus, I'll believe it is. |

The OP of this discussion thread quotes an article published by the Tri-County Times of Fenton, Michigan.
In the article, the publication lets its readers know what objective websites that the publication uses to check facts, such as pewresearch.org, Gallup.com and Propublica.org. The publication also recommends that people use fact-checking websites such as Factcheck.org, Snopes.com and the Washington Post's The Fact Checker blog. The article closes with the following paragraph: In order to get the best, most well-rounded view of an issue, people should read from multiple websites and news sources. While news outlets should strive to remain objective and keep their opinions out of reporting, that is not always the case. While these websites listed by the Times is a good start, consider reading from as many different viewpoints as possible. Conservative, liberal, independent, feminist, patriarchal, religious, secular - the more opinions and facts you are exposed to, the more you can strengthen your own criticisms and opinions.
There isn't anything liberal about that last paragraph. One is making a straw-man argument when one claims that the OP of this thread is promoting liberalism or any political opinion. |

this thread had already gone off on a totally different tangent
but thanx for the relevant post,, ![]() |

It's not a current event. It's not a news story and was stated it wasn't put in here for political reasons.
The article does not fit any qualifications of news and current events. I wish the mods would move it to it's proper place in the forums. |

They scan the threads and move them.
They have many of mine. Looks like liberals get the free passes. |

It's true isn't it? His internet was a guy riding on a horse hoping not to get shot. media is changing,,,nearly onstantly bt now there are many more 'sources' that aren't held to any type of standard of veracity or accuntability And of course it would be a sin to impose yours wouldn't it. That is unless it is about trampling another's rights. ![]() ![]() ![]() repeated for (neutral) clarity: media is changing,,,,nearly constantly but now there are many more 'sources' that aren't held to any type of standard of veracity or accountability yea, like the WH press secretary spewing barry's lies? |

|
|
I suppose if people 'liked' anything , those particular people wouldn't write commentaries or articles espousing that they didn't 'like' that thing,,lol
that's the chaos of the internet, people can write whatever they want in most cases with little accountability there is no one, no place, no thing that 'everyone' likes, so 'someone' will always print something somewhere that explains their personal reasons to dislike that person, place or thing |

some people are to lazy to dig for facts. And some people reject facts that contradict their attempts to demonize the POTUS. Back when GWB occupied the Oval Office, Bush-haters accused Snopes.com of having a Republican/Conservative bias because the website didn't support the false anti-Bush claims spread by Bush-haters. Nowadays, Obama-haters accuse Snopes.com of having a Democrat/liberal bias because the website doesn't support the false anti-Obama claims made by Obama-haters. |
