Twenty-seven people, including 18 children, have been killed in a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, according to the Associated Press. The report cites an official with knowledge of the situation. Sources told The Courant that there are at least 20 shooting victims. Many of the shootings took place in a kindergarten classroom, sources said. One entire classroom is unaccounted for, sources said. A person believed to be a shooter is dead. Earlier reports of a second shooter are unconfirmed. Three people were brought to Danbury Hospital, but their condition is unknown. The emergency room is on lockdown. Police were still searching the school at 11 a.m., and police dogs had been brought in. Around noon, the triage area was broken down, stretchers were taken away and the SWAT team left the building. Shortly after 9:40 a.m., police reported that a shooter was in the main office of the school. A person in one room had “numerous gunshot wounds,” police said. Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were being escorted away from the school by their teachers. Some students were still in the school at 10:30 a.m., parents said. School and local emergency officials are accounting for the children, who will be released to their parents to get them home. A staging area has been set up at the Sandy Hook fire department, directly in front of the school. Frustrated parents are trying to get information from officials, who are still actively searching the school. Parent Richard Wilford said his Sandy Hook second-grader, Richie, heard what he described as “pans falling” when gunshots rang out. He said that his son told him that the teacher went to go check, came back in and locked the door and told the students to stand in the corner. “What does a parent think about coming to a school where there’s a shooting” It’s the most terrifying moment of a parent’s life … you have no idea,” said Wilford. Eight-year-old Alexis Wasik, a third-grader at the school, said police were checking everybody inside the school before they were escorted to the firehouse. "We had to walk with a partner," she said. One child leaving the school said that there was shattered glass everywhere. A police officer ran into the classroom and told them to run outside and keep going until the reach the firehouse. Audra Barth, who was walking away from the school with her first-grade son and third-grade daughter, says a teacher took first-graders into the restroom after bullets came through the window. Andrew Doba, a spokesman for Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, said the governor is monitoring the situation and is in “constant contact” with state police, who are coordinating with federal and local officials. Malloy will travel to Newtown later today, he said. Afternoon buses and kindergarten has been cancelled. The entire district is on lockdown. ************************************************ Things like this I will never understand in this world. My heart goes out to all in this situation.... |

I doubt it has anything to do with the Norwegian guy, that was a statement against Muslims I think ... but you never know I suppose. Either way it's a despicable and unforgivable act.

There will be, for sure, a crazy involved. No one else could do such a thing. Whether or not there were any political, religious, or other such points being made is yet to be seen but it doesn't really matter. I bet the person responsible should not have been free in the first place.

Those poor children. When will america stop making it so easy to buy guns? I believe the government make so much money out it that they do not care about the numerous shootings. And even if obama or any future president did make a stand they would be met by rebellion by the majority of stupid americans

A man with a knife has wounded 22 children - at least two of them seriously - and an adult at a primary school in central China.
The attack happened at the gate of a school in Chenpeng village inHenan province. Police arrested a 36-year-old local man at the scene. Security at China's schools has been increased in recent years following a spate of similar knife attacks in which nearly 20 children have been killed. The BBC's John Sudworth in Shanghai says many of the attackers have been mentally disturbed men, prompting a debate about the effects of China's recent, rapid social change and the inability of an antiquated hospitalsystem to cope with rising levels ofmental illness. The Associated Press news agency quotes a police officer as saying that this latest attack happened aspupils were arriving for classes. The agency also quotes a county hospital administrator as saying that the man first attacked an elderly woman, then the children, before being overpowered by security guards. He added that two of the injured pupils had been transferred to better-equipped hospitals outside the county. |

And even if obama or any future president did make a stand they would be met by rebellion by the majority of stupid americans I feel terrible about it too, but stiffer gun control is not the answer. If you want a gun, you can always get a gun, besides if you were going to kill someone with it, would you register it legally? |

Let's just put at least two heavily armed police in every school, that might help quite a bit. |

By the way, for the children and families...

It will be interesting to see if he had the guns legally or not. One of the adults killed was his mother, who was a kindergarten teacher at the school. Apparently it was her classroom that he opened fire on. What a sad day for these children and families. |

First to say is my prayers go out to all those affected by today's tragedy. To lose your loved one to violence like this is beyond comprehensible. The innocence of all those children was also lost today. It is a very sad day.

With reference to " stiffer gun laws aren't the answer and that f you wanted to buy a gun then you would get one" I'd like to say that that is the type of attitude m talking about. Why not even just make it a little bit harder for people to buy guns? If it will save these numerous tradgedies from occuring then surely its worth it?

The shooter had killed his father in New Jersey before he went to the school where his mother worked.
* * * President Obama just commented on the shooting. He didn't politicize the incident. In fact, President Obama had to stop several times to gain control of his composure. |

I lost count on these gunshots ever since I moved to the states. Just plain shocking.
R.I.P. all the victims and my heart goes out to all their families and friends. |

As sad as the reality is, and it is heart breaking , I wouldn't put it passed an element of some left wing faction influence to help push gun control laws.
Whole wars have been staged and fought thru "false flag" operations, and using children as the victims makes it a shoe-in for legislation..... just wait and see! Of course it has nothing to do with the hundreds of children killed in Obamas' drone attacks....after all, their foreigners and muslims..... |

Folks, now is a time for grieving. How about leaving any talk about gun laws for another day.
