A lot of people in this country keep AKs and various automatic weapons. I know some personally. If guns were the problem, we'd have massacres every week. The purpose of hollow point rounds is to stop an attacker dead. More expensive than other types of ammo, but more stopping power too.

Maybe some do carry them, maybe they don't. The nice thing about being free to carry is that an attacker has no idea who is armed or with what. It's a very strong disincentive to criminals.
