so sad that this thread got so completely off-topic!!! It's completely on-topic: "It makes sense that this could be helpful for many people as religion has been allowed to run rampant and has been deceptively taught as the only answer to morality, problem solving, recovery, grieving, etc... And in truth it only makes a person sicker in the end. Makes their lives more empty. " You are doing what the OP did. You're associating "sick" actions with religion without knowing how everyone was taught, what they were taught, the quality of their existense and their mental capacity. i am not perfect. anyone who would disdain a topic such as this does not have to participate. Disdain is the reason I participate... I think moral elitism is a sickness. One which breeds the likes of an Adolf Hitler. no doubt he believed that. |

In my search for information I ran across an atheist site that offers recovery from religion for those who need help shaking the monkey of religion off their back. It makes sense that this could be helpful for many people as religion has been allowed to run rampant and has been deceptively taught as the only answer to morality, problem solving, recovery, grieving, etc... And in truth it only makes a person sicker in the end. Makes their lives more empty. I am going to check into it and see what kind of good stuff they have. :| That board in your eye must be painful. |

my reply: Roman Catholic boys come to mind for me, They would not have been abused if they had not been in religion. :( Yes, they would of. Remove religion/priest from it, really think he's no longer a pedophile? Please. Again, where's your logic, brudda? logic... the thousands of Roman Catholic boys who have been abused were all there for one reason, the church. Remove the church and these same thousands of boys would have been molested and abused ??? Logically, of course not.... |

The "church" did not molest these children, nor does the belief support as such. The belief actually supports the contrary, so in fact them being "Catholic" had absolutely nothing to do with them being molested. |

God releases the truth... He as no religion, He is alive and real, and He speak, its hard to do not hear Him.. I was muslim, but I was looking for the truth... one day I cried out to God, asked Him to show me the truth.... and you know what? He aswered me.. He told me that HE loved me so much and that Jesus was the way, the truth and the life... :)... Praise God!

If you're living your life according to one particular belief system or book above all others, it's still religion. Relationship is personal, if we all have to go one way it's not personal anymore. |

I dont know,, those who seem to oppose religion the most consistently (at least on mingle)seem to be much unhappier and emptier than those who dont,,,although they protest more often about how much happier they supposedly are,,, I don't know about you, but knowing that God is not this being that is constantly watching over our shoulder judging our every move, and demanding we stop certain actions and believe particular things risking our eternal souls if we don't, has made me MUCH happier and MUCH more at peace than I ever used to before. Am I perfect? No. Are there things I could work on? Yes. But the difference is now, I am in full control of my life here, of my destiny. I am free to make of my life what I want to make of it, free to make choices good or bad, to take whatever path I choose to. My life is mine own to create, to live based upon what I want out of it, with no eternal punishments for choosing wrong. Knowing without a shadow of a doubt that no matter what I do down here, that I am and always was loved, and when it's all over will go back to that loving being from whence I came and comparing that to what I used to believe, is like night and day. Until you've experienced both sides of this, you cannot and will not be able to understand the difference. |

My life is mine own to create, to live based upon what I want out of it, with no eternal punishments for choosing wrong. Not to make it personal, nor do you have to respond to this. Just food for thought. If you're still doing the same wrongs, but feel no remorse for them, feel no guilt for them, what's that say about you? Why wouldn't you feel remorse or some form of guilt for doing some form of "wrong". So now you're just ignoring the wrongs you do rather then feeling remorse for doing them? Again, not trying to get personal, this also applies to others, not just you, just food for thought. |

The direction isn't personal, but the journey is. The times shared with God is personal, thus a person relationship with God. If everyone's journey has to be lead to the same place in the end, the relationship can't be personal. I don't care how you wanna try and twist it still can't. Being personal means you define your own relationship to God, if you aren't free to do that in your own individual way, and if you're religious you're not, it can't be personal then. It's like trying to say, your kids can have personal relationships to you, but they have to do the exact same things with you regardless of what they want. It does not work. In short, no room for individuality, no personal relationship. |
