of course some of us don't have view points...whoa

That's okay.
It is made up for the ones who have multiple
Sybil-like viewpoints.
I make up for a WHOLE bunch of them

One of the reasons why I like using the forums is you get to see what people are like over time. The true personality eventually comes out. Also, you get to see what a person's view point is on a wide variety of subjects that wouldn't necessarily come up in conversation for a much longer period of time.

Three out of four voices would agree on that sibyl comment. But the committee has always had that in common. It is like it is hard to get them to agree on anything. Still three out of four is still a quorum. That is not saying though that sometimes they still can come out with an unanimous agreement. But when that happens they like to remain anonymous. They feel that otherwise they could be intimidated to agree with the one out of four that always seems to have trouble agreeing with the other three. (We could put that in parentheses. I know but you can't really do that in normal verbal communication.)

I was just having one of my random thoughts along the lines of… how well someone can really get to know someone just by reading what they write.

I think if you talk to someone long enough that their personality comes out very clear. bigsmile

I agree.

I think the forums are a great way of getting to know people. As Krupta and Sing said, I don't think you'll ever get to know people completely online but you'll get to know enough.

True but I also think there are a lot of people that use the internet/dating sites for 'do-overs'...recreate themselves...it's not like people don't tell whoppers on their profiles .

Although, as you quite rightly pointed out, most people aren't able to keep up the pretense over time.

That's one of the things I like as well.

True, which is why I will never allow myself to fall in love with someone I have not met in real life again.

I think you can get to know someone quite well by what they write.
It just takes a lot of reading between the lines.

At times, reading between the lines harms things more than helps, as some people read things that aren't there. I'd rather just ask someone what they mean, than try to figure out out and assume incorrectly.

Well, that`s just it. You have to know HOW to read between the lines. It takes real skill to read what`s not written (this is the right way), and not to read what`s not written there (which would be the wrong way).

Everybody can read between the lines. But it takes a really good and skilled readerbetweenthelines to read the real stuff that`s been written between the lines.

People think they can read between the lines, but what often happens are incorrect assumptions are made.

I agree with you so much on this. The funny thing is the people that CLAIM to be so good at reading between the lines are the ones who are not.
Usually fueled by their own ego too.

What I am saying is no matter how hard some people try to put a spin on it, reading between the lines is absolutely making assumptions.
Its also a very clever way for someone to blame another person for their own lack of communications skills, inability to face their own feelings and to justify their own actions.

Thank God people that do that are not judges cause we would all be convicted for life without a trial and no bail.

A lot of the time, it's just someone trying to see something that was not there. So, they say they're reading in between the lines. Yes, it's just making assumptions.

Not really fair to the person who the assumptions are made about is it.

If someone's serious about reinventing themselves in order to dupe someone, it is relatively easy to maintain a consistent response on here. If I wanted to remind myself of what I have written, I'd just click on the red number beneath my name and Bob's your uncle.

Unfortunately, people do lie. If they're being honest, then yes, you can get to know someone by reading what they write depending on what they write.
