Topic: Spelling and grammar not important anymore?

It would seem to me, this sentence (if it could be called a sentence) "Dis is all 2 much for me 2 take in i have said this b4" probably takes longer for the brain to process and convey, than simply typing,
"this is all too much, for me to take in, i have said this before."

LOOK,,,if YOU don't like MY grammer then maybe YOU shouldn't read me?
But personally,,,I happen to LIKE THE WAY I TYPE!!!laugh

I've been on here to long,,to LEARN, new ways..

Take ME for who I TYPE,,and who YOU think I am.

Because I don't get any BETTER,,,,, laugh

And it's OK,,to not like to read me,,,BUT,,,I would be offended IF you didn't LOVE ME as the person I am,,,, ohwell drinker

Although I'm sure the former is far more lucrative for the makers of Tylenol....

Maybe some of them have slight learning disabilities and have trouble with spelling. My son has a hard time with spelling but has graduated from high school. Should he distance himself from the world because of his struggle to spell correctly. I don't think so!

Well... *this* just stopped me in my tracks frown

After the conversations here... he could come on this site and get constantly corrected for misspelling words, and *that* would be a form of bullying, wouldn't it? huh
yes it would. He does not misspell because he is lazy or he does not care; it is just hard for him.

That's what I'm saying!!! I'm glad someone understands.

It's not about typos or things like that.

Not at all. There are definitely ways for those who know they don't spell well to get along well in the world.

That's not the case here, though. Rarely do we see people correcting people's spelling. This thread was not singling anyone out. I was just trying to figure out why people do things the way they do.

I did correct someone's spelling earlier, but that was just because of his comment for bringing back a dead thread.

Admittedly some of the forms of communication are more challenging, I am up for a challenge most times. It is a brain challenge to decipher which has to be good stimulation.

Being far from an editor myself I do not judge. But I will laugh if it shows as funny though. Even when I write for articles and such, I am terrible with my grammar, punctuation the first copy and spelling too.

If I plan on submitting it to someone for consideration, I spend lots of time on sentence form and punctuation. I actually like to use commas instead of periods so I run on and on...lol

I love the etc... too because it means I am only stating some of what I know leaving some for others own mind to fill in.

Individuality is a good thing so I encourage it.

Never follow the masses be your own.

Many of us communicate via the written word with people quite often. Both on informal sites like this as well as at work. Sadly, people don't seem to care how they write anymore. Why is that? Especially when impressions on sites like this are made via writing? And business is done the same way?

I often get emails where it's tough to read from lack of punctuation, text speak and just bad spelling. This actually happens at work as well. Sometimes, I wonder why people would think of typing that way in a professional setting.

What do the rest of you think? Has spelling and grammar really become so much less important that people just don't care how they come across anymore?

Its funny how you say on informal sites like this one, Only because when i read the title on the main page, i was thinking I try my best, but i dont comb through all my stuff here to check my spelling errors like i would on a writing project that actually pays me...

Anywho-I was just thinking, i come here to relax and chit chat, and if i was at coffee with a friend and having a chatty conversation, i probably would use some slang terms as well that i wouldnt be using at work either. I guess that is part of relaxing and having a good time and not having to worry about every little thing being perfect al the time. Oops, I just spelled all wrong, My bad ya'll

AHA! So you do admit to scrutinizing a persons technique based on the fact that you just disagree with their comments in an open forum?laugh laugh noway

Does this mean if you cant rebut a claim you go after their spelling errors?

It just meant that he was giving me a hard time, so I did the same, especially seeing as it was a thread about spelling. Notice the  after it? I'm sure Krupa can handle it. laugh

I KNOW illiteracy,,,,,Because I lived it HERE,,,as to OTHERS OPINIONS OF MY WRITING CAPABILITIES,AND GRAMMAR,,

I NEVER was or have been a STUPID MAN...nor a man with ANY learning disabilities......

I was a man who never wanted to learn English and Grammar..

So I didn't!!!!

Now after being on here and self indulging myself into typing and reading,,I have also LEARNED MUCH,,,as to then both..

Yet,,,I will STILL<------do caps,,,because THATS A ME THING NOW,,
on here...blushing

It was my start,,and it shall remain ME,,until I die in formats where text is viewed as a means to converse.

I have had MANY respond to it with a very open and honest remark of saying, THEY LIKED reading me using THIS type of format...

BUT,,,folks,,,REALLY HERE,,,,SOME PEOPLE CAN'T SPELL?
And guys are the worst sometimes...laugh

I have talked with and seen on here three guys,,who because THEY could not spell,,became frustrated and left the site,,MANY HERE ran them off because THEY didn't like to TRY and read one of their posts here...SO in came the PUT-DOWNS,,and the OFF-COLOR HITS of being mean by others...who DIDN'T CARE ABOUT HURTING THEIR FEELINGS?

I have also been on here to witness another ACTING like they couldn't spell,,,and THAT was just wrong,,,for they argued that with many and lied about their profile as well?

If a person GIVES an honest WANT,,,to type out a post,,or make a reply on here,,,,THATS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME...

To me,,if someone is bad in their English skills,,THAT ALONE,,should be seen and just KNOWN,,as they do that?
And so what?
Nobody's Perfect..... laugh drinker smokin
I am NOT a spelling or Grammar COP,,,to try and site them for not caring here and there?

I correct because I see it as a chance for those who wish to learn to do so. IF they dont want to learn, they can easily communicate that and I can adjust

if they have learning disability, they can communicate that too

but I dont ASSUME people who are cussing must have terrets and I likewise dont ASSUME people misspelling actually have a spelling disorder

I speak up about both vulgarity and improper spelling and grammar, if there are the RARE , minority, situations which make it unavoidable,, simply stating so ends that 'correction' without prejudice

So then it wouldn't bother you if people were to correct your punctuation?

yes very glad we don't experience that..I would be even more lost than I am now. I was going to try to reply in 1337 speak but I don't even know where all those symbols are on my keyboard.
laugh
p.s. To all the "proper english" police reading this post, please pardon any punctuation, spelling and/or grammar errors you may see. Please also dare not to correct. I am communicating that to you now to save you some time.
this will be the signature line on all my post.
