Topic: Who wrote the New Testament? | |

Well you can not "judge" what something teaches by people's actions.
I damn sure can! I can judge that if an organization, an organized religion or church no less, sanctions and carries out assassinations as a normal part of their function, that they are NOT GODLY PEOPLE. And I can sure as hell judge that they are wrong and should not be listened to or supported or trusted. Yes I can do that. Yes I have done that. You have to go specifically to the source of the teachings. Yes the Roman Catholics did some nasty things. But that was on their own behalf. So it was on their own EVIL behalf. SO? They are not spokesmen for God. They are a power hungry, money hungry corporation that proclaims to be Godly. They, in my opinion are corrupt, dishonest and "evil" at the core. They supported Hitler and helped smuggle his henchmen out of Germany, and probably Hitler himself. Not that I'm going to take sides in that war, but if Hitler is to be considered a villain, then so should the Catholic Church be considered a villain. Nothing different from an atheist doing the same nasty things, for it is not supported by the religion they are claiming to abide by. So it wasn't the religion in itself that promoted such actions. Atheists have no religion. They don't have an organized corporation that goes around sanctioning assassinations. How can you judge the scriptures and or the belief by the catholics actions when their actions were not in sink with the scriptures? Atheists have no religion. They don't have an organized corporation that goes around sanctioning assassinations. Atheism is a religion all in it's own. EVERYONE has some form of belief in a god. Weather they BELIEVE there are no god's, or the BELIEVE there are gods. Atheists BELIEVE there are no gods. That is a belief in the category of gods. This all might be true. But who are you to judge the entire category of Catholics from just a few doing as such? Do ALL Catholics behave as such? If not, you can NOT categorize that "Catholics" are evil, ect. Cowboy, Please read what I write. I did not categorize that "Catholics" are evil. Most catholics are just followers who don't know any better. How can you judge the scriptures and or the belief by the catholics actions when their actions were not in sink with the scriptures? Who said I was judging scriptures or the belief by the Catholic Church's actions? I am judging the corrupt organization of the CHURCH who has lied to so many people and who pretends to be Godly and pretends to have authority over Christianity. I judge the scripture on its own merit whether or not it is true or if it has any meaning to me. If the Catholics actions were not in sync with the scriptures, then the entire organization is corrupt and is false religion. It should be dismantled. |

So Cowboy, I have noticed that you assume stuff that I never wrote, you rewrite, in your mind, my statements and you misinterpret them a lot. I am going to take a break from this "discussion" because I feel you are not listening at all, even when you respond to what I say, you get it all wrong. |

This is the Prophecy of those who willingly ignore Yahshua's name and insult him with thier own. Heb 10:26-31 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of Yahweh underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says Yahweh. And again, "Yahweh will judge His people." 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living Elohim. NKJV This is why you see me use Elohim, Master, Messiah, Yahweh and Yahshua... Blessings..Miles Well according to some Christians, Moses Law is no longer in effect after the new one came into effect. So why worry about the old laws?? Also the term "Elohim" is plural which means "Gods" There were more than one of those running around back then I suspect. They may have been "fearful" alien beings who were mistook for "Gods." Yes Elohim is plural but way more than that. Elohim is also meant for Judge. Who is the Righteous Judge? Yahweh who is has given this power to Yahshua. and he even said he had the right to with the woman they wanted stoned but he did not. Way more to why he wrote on the ground in that story also. He refered to the Psalms. we are Elohims. even speaks of Israels children as Elohims because where does Judgement 1st start? Matt 15:25 24 But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel ." NKJV Heb 8:8 I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah — NKJV Matt 19:28 28 And Yahshua said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel . KJV 1 Cor 5:12-13 12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside Yahweh judges. Therefore "put away from yourselves the evil person." NKJV Shalom..Miles |

Abracadabra, We agree on your first point. There are so many contradictions and just plain out heinous actions by a so called loving God that I have great difficulty with the Old Testament too. As for your second point, I am in no way a fundamentalist. Like I say, I do not believe in a literal interpretation of the bible's every word. Point three, I plead ignorance on. I do not know enough to comment on that. See, we agree on a lot of things and I am always willing to learn new stuff. ![]() Kudos! ![]() I actually have no problem with people who believe in the Old Testament, and the idea that Jesus was the sacrificial lamb of God. If they prefer to place their faith in that idea, more power to them. Where I have a problem is when they start suggesting that if I refuse to accept their faith, then I'm somehow "rejecting God". From my point of view that's just an all-round negative reaction to other people's views that serves no good purpose for anyone. I was born and raised as a Christian, and initially I 'accepted' that the Bible was indeed the "word of God". I won't say that I 'believed' it, I'll just say that I accepted it. It was my intent to study the bible and eventually teach it so that I could answer people's questions about it and help them better understand it. That's when the problems started. The more I studied the less "clear" it became. Instead of finding answers, I just discover more and more blatant contradictions and utter absurdities. I finally came to the conclusion that the book cannot be the word of any God. I was extremely relieved when I later discovered that the great Isaac Newton had come to similar conclusions. It was also reassuring to discover that the most brilliant scientist in all of humanity also discredited the biblical story of God. It wasn't until much later when I took at extensive course on the history of Buddhism that I realized that Jesus was most likely a Mahayana Buddhist Bodhisattva. The timing is right, the location was definitely within the reach of this Buddhist movement. However, far more importantly, it became crystal clear to me that the teachings of Jesus were far more in line with the teachings of Mahayana Buddhism and clearly not even remotely compatible with the teachings of the Old Testament. Also, once I had recognized that Jesus himself was most likely just a mortal man, then there was no longer any reason to believe that the New Testament was the inspired word of God. In other words, there was no longer any reason to accept every verbatim quote in the New Testament as any sort of "gospel truth". Thus I no longer had any reason to attempt to justify every single verse verbatim. I can now easily dismiss entire verses or even entire sections as simply being either gross misunderstandings of what Jesus actually stood for, or (as Jeanniebean suggests in this thread), many of the things written in the New Testament may be entire fabrications for the purpose of pushing forward some other agenda. I still "keep" Jesus as a respected sage in my own personal spiritual journey, but I no longer have any need to uphold the "sacrificial lamb" idea of Christianity. I just lump Jesus in with people like Buddha, Confucius, Lao Tzu and other spiritual teachers. I believe that all these men were in touch with the spiritual essence of humanity. So in this respect I continue to hold Jesus in high regard. I just don't view him in the same way that orthodox Christianity does. |

Writings on Newton by Stephen David Snobelen At the end of the seventeenth century, Isaac Newton (1642-1727) initiated a revolution in science. At the end of the twentieth century, scholars began a revolution in the understanding of Newton. As Newton's long-concealed private papers on theology become increasingly accessible, students of Newton's thought are coming to see Newton as more than a scientist. The author of the Principia mathematica was a true Renaissance man who spent decades delving in the secrets of alchemy and even longer studying the Bible, theology and church history. Leaving behind four million words on theology, Newton was one of the greatest lay theologians of his age. A study of Newton's theology and prophetic views illuminates the life of this great thinker and helps us understand his science. Most of the people who support "Christianity" are totally unaware of Newton's work in theology. Those who claim that Christianity supports brother love, etc, fail to also mention that this is only supported when the "brother" acknowledges Jesus as "The Christ" (or only begotten son of God). When Newton concluded that Jesus could not have been the son of the Old Testament God, he could not announce his "discovery" freely. On the contrary he had to keep it a secret. Because if he voiced it publicly he would have been proclaimed to be a "heathen" and it would have severely interfered with his social status, or even potentially brought him physical harm by the Christians of his time and place. So the "Brotherly Love" of Christianity has historically only been offered to brothers who acknowledge Jesus as "The Christ". Like Jeanniebean often points out, Christianity is a very exclusive club. Or at least, it certainly was so historically. |
