Topic: for or against the Death Penalty...? | |
---|---|
I am doing a pros/cons paper on Capital Punishment for one of my college classes. It's not difficult to find information regarding either side - for or against it... Just thought I'd take a survey on here - find out the opinions of anyone who wishes to share them. Thanks for any/all feedback given. |

Well, I do support it, simply because I cannot see how one can overlook a person who committed murder (not of the self defense kind). I admit there is a grey area here, because we have to know for sure that someone is truly guilty (beyond a reasonable doubt).
I think our legal system is royally messed up. I say this because, in a court of law, we see criminals get away with there crimes, and we see innocent people get sentenced for crimes they did not commit. So it really is a tough choice to say if a man should receive the death penalty. Anyways, I hope I made sense here, lol. |

Man has no right to take away that which he cannot give back. That would be a good thing to remember for your other thread. |

I am against any taking of human life that is intentional and pre planned.

Actually a person on a death row is more expensive than a person in for life. It takes many years and lots of lots of tax money.
Back in the day, it only cost the price of a 20ft long rope, which is actually re-usable and could last for many years. Seriously, I got a better idea. I can make hell on Earth to anyone who deserve it. If he killed someone, he had to re-watch all the tapes recorded of the person over and over again (mandatory) running day and night in his cell with pictures decorated of the killed one and has to go each week to take flowers and stair at the killed one's grave for hours and tell what she or he could have been now if she or he would be alive. It's the endless cycle of repetition is what hell is and he would be in hell. |

We've all heard the typical 'eye for an eye' reason for it...
and the 'none of us are God' reason against it... I'm interested to know why you personally feel the way you do. Also - just to notate something I've learned while doing research...There are some states that are "putting a hold" on the death penalty due to the recession - believe it or not, it's a fact that it's cheaper to sentence someone to life than to give them the death penalty. I was shocked to learn that (and researched it a great deal...) It turns out to be so expensive to have a person on death row because of the appeals process and many years in-between the time the sentence is given and carried out. I live in Texas, so a lot of my research was done strictly on the death penalty here. Including reading the information regarding every single man and woman who is on death row in Texas. I can honestly say, after a day doing that kind of research, it was difficult to sleep that night. No twisted horror movie could come up with some of the things I read -- and the pictures of these people...the majority, honestly speaking, looked plain evil and cold. Giving me chills to even think about it now. |

I am against it simply because I think human life is precious and I believe noone has the right to determine who deserves to live or die.

Don't go to bed
with no price on your head, Don't do it. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. (Chorus) Keep your eye on the sparrow, When the going gets narrow. Don't roll the dice if you can't pay the price, Don't do it. Don't run your feet down a dead-end street. (repeat Chorus) Don't do me dirt or you're gonna get hurt Don't do it. Don't run away till you hear what I say. (repeat Chorus) Ain't gonna fight with no thief in the night Won't do it. I'm gonna go where the cold wind don't blow. |
