How is anything I stated in disagreement with that? Charles Robert Darwin was a naturalist who proposed that all living creatures are related by common ancestors. Charles Darwin was born in England in 1809 and died in 1882. Darwin was a member of the Royal Geographical SocietyHis Alma Mater was the Univerity of Edinburgh and the University of Cambridge. His academic advisors were Adam Sedgwick and John Stevens Henslow. His best known works were the "Voyage of the Beagle","On The Origin Of Species" and his theory of Natural Selection. He won several major awards in his lifetime. The Royal Medal in 1853,the Wallaston Medal in 1859,and the Copley Medal in 1864. One of his major influences was Charles Lyell, and he in turned heavily influenced Thomas Henry Huxley and George John Romanes. He was a member of the Church of England although his family had a Unitarian background, and he is known to have embraced Agnosticism after 1851 |

Well we do actually.... Yep...You have to remember that back then just about everyone was Christian. It was a bad idea to profess atheism due to the heavy discrimination you would have faced. What Charles Darwin's research had effectively opened the door to is a person's ability to question their own beliefs if the origin of life in fact was examinable in terms of the natural world that surrounds us. AND WHETHER HE DID OR NOT IT DOES NOT MATTER. HIS THEORY WAS PURE SCIENCE. NO PERSONAL VIEWS. I HAVE READ HIS BOOKS. NOTHING GOOD OR BAD ABOUT GOD IN THEM. NO PERSONAL STATEMENTS JUST BORING DRY SCIENCE. THAT IS WHAT I AM SAYING.IT DONT MATTER WHAT WAS IN HIS MIND WHEN HE DIED |

There was no indication that he ever repented or embraced Christianity. All known accounts actually dispel this rumor. And an Agnostic is? It isnt a Christian now is it? As I stated earlier, for a person during this time period to suddenly denounce Christianity would have been asking for a boatload of trouble. He probably would have been at odds with the very people who allowed him the ability to publish his research. |

Gosh Mirror Mirror, calm down. Im on your side. Peace. HERE ARE THE FACTS ABOUT DARWIN. THIS IS NOT MY OPINION. JUST THE HISTORICAL FACTS. Darwin was a member of the Church of England although his family had a Unitarian background, and he is known to have embraced Agnosticism after 1851 His personal beliefs did not have a role in his scientific theories. He used the scientific method. There is no room for personal views in the scientific method. |

He was just a man of science. He never denounced nor repented anything in regards to his works of science. |

I dont even think they had a name for Atheism (yet) Mirror Mirror. You are reading things in that I never said. These are the only points I made:
A. Charles Darwin never "repented" on his death bed. B. Charles Darwin never converted on his death bed. Thats all I ever said Mirror. |

What Is an agnostic?
An agnostic thinks it impossible to know the truth in matters such as God and the future life with which Christianity and other religions are concerned. Or, if not impossible, at least impossible at the present time. Are agnostics atheists? No. An atheist, like a Christian, holds that we can know whether or not there is a God. The Christian holds that we can know there is a God; the atheist, that we can know there is not. The Agnostic suspends judgment, saying that there are not sufficient grounds either for affirmation or for denial. |

Am I missing something? When did I say he was a staunch Atheist? In that time period Im not even certain if they had the label "Atheist" yet. |
