You should look it up online. You dont have to read the whole book. Chapter XIV of "Origin Of Species"is the recapitulation and conclusion. Also there is "The Descent of Man" and you could just read chapter XXI which is also the general summary and conclusion. Both of them together are less than 10 pages so it wouldnt be too hard to read. I recommend that to anyone that doesnt have time to read the whole works of Darwin but wants to see his words with their own eyes.

Did better than find it online. I downloaded it to my iPhone. I'm in the process of reading The Origin of Species now.

Its a tough and boring read (as most scientific works are) but when a person actually takes the time to read it for themselves they can see with their own eyes that Darwin was only making a scientificly based statement and not a political statement.

Is there a DVD on it? I'm sure there are a few. Can you recommend me one Mirror?

I'm already in the middle of 2 books and they are due back soon. Also not into reading non-fiction. I'd rather watch a documentary.

There are tons of shows on History channel and National Geographic channel about evolution but like I said, if you ever want to actually see what Darwin wrote in a quick and easy way then just read chapter XIV in "Origin of Species" and chapter XXI of "The Descent of Man". Both of them are about 5 pages and together are less than 10 pages.Its actually rather dry and boring but when a person actually sees it with their own eyes they will realize that Charles Darwin was merely making a rational scientific observation.

I haven't read the whole thread, and today, unfortunately, I don't have time to do so. However, I would like to add two points, in case they haven't been stated yet.
1) Biblical creationism isn't the only type of creationism. Most, if not all, of the old religions belived in some form of creationism. Biblical creationism is just the most widely accepted among creationists today. There are some who believe that the universe was born as the result of the union of a God and Goddess. There is also the version from one Native American tribe that says that Coyote and another animal sang the Earth into being, and all of the plants adn animals on it, as well as the sun, moon and stars. There are Mnay, many versions of creationism.
2) Charles Darwin stated, on his deatbed, that the theory of evolution is not valid at all, and that he regretted teaching it to the world.

Actually the facts disagree with you on that.
"As soon as this story became public, the denials from Darwin’s family began (as they did after every supposed “conversion story” became known). In a letter to James Howe, Darwin’s son Francis wrote in 1915: “He [Darwin] could not have become openly and enthusiastically Christian without the knowledge of his family, and no such change occurred.”

In a letter dated May 28, 1918, Francis again writes: “Lady Hope’s account of my father’s views on religion is quite untrue. I have publicly accused her of falsehood, but I have not seen any reply.”

Darwin’s daughter Henrietta wrote in 1922: “I was present at his deathbed. Lady Hope was not present during his last illness, or any illness. . . . He never recanted any of his scientific views, either then or earlier.”

Well, I never heard, or said, that he became a Christian, just that he denounced evolution.

I guess that whether he recanted or not is irrelevant now. The theory of evolution is here, and the present topic of discussion.

Charles Darwin was simply a scientist doing his job

I have never heard that Charles Darwin "recanted" his theories on his death bed. Why would he? He also never converted to Christianity. The reason I believe this to be a fact is because his wife was a Christian so if he had actually converted before his death, she would have been singing it from the rooftops and she never did as far as we know.

I know he did have a daughter who died rather young and for this, he turned against god in many respects in his despair over losing her.

He didn't ,but it wouldn't matter if he did. Would you still believe in gravity if Newton had recanted? The church used to force astronomers that believed in a Heliocentric solar system to recant. Would that mean that the Earth doesn't go around the sun? Also, Darwins findings have been independantly verified as acccording to the scientific method.

Is being a scientist "turning against God"?


It doesn't matter what Charles Darwins views on God, because his findings have been independantly verified by other scientist, as according to the scientific method.

Exactly. I was kind of beginning to think this was one of those classic "moot points."
