I want one of those My good deed for the day. I already blew my first chance. Actually, that wasn't an opportunity to do a good deed, just a chance not to act like a total asshole. It is only 7:30am though, I may have another stab at it, yet. |

you shouldnt judge just because hes homeless it doesnt make him alcoholic, i couldnt smell any booze on him at all. dont be so quick to judge Many homeless people are mentally ill. I am finding out now why that is, looking for options for my daughter. I was basically told that once she is an adult, I can let her live with me or put her on the streets. They tell me there are no other options for mentally ill adults. Sad.
that is sad, and im very sorry . thats why i said to the other poster dont be so quick to judge, just because soneones homeless it doesnt make them a druggie or a alcoholic, as youve expressed it can be for many reasons. maybe, but i never thought once he was a alcoholic. until ive got proof i try my best not to judge. |

You are a real angel thanks, but why the ??? So nice of you to supply a homeless man with cancer sticks....a bit of irony there maybe she could of gave him a how to quit smokin booklet instead,..eh ? ya,..probably would have rolled his butts up in it and smoked it,.. probably would have, he didnt want the money for food, he said id done enough and he was very grateful. You should have really gone over the top and bought him a bottle of booze Then you could have deemed yourself a true sainte you shouldnt judge just because hes homeless it doesnt make him alcoholic, i couldnt smell any booze on him at all. dont be so quick to judge ..and you weren't judging him because he was picking up cigarette butts? Oh honey...get a clue! |

[Many homeless people are mentally ill. I am finding out now why that is, looking for options for my daughter. I was basically told that once she is an adult, I can let her live with me or put her on the streets. They tell me there are no other options for mentally ill adults. Sad. There is definitely a huge gap in our health care system in this area. Some mentally challenged adults do reside in nursing homes or group homes, would that be an option for your daughter? I don't mean to be pry or be too personal, just inquiring. Anyway, I don't mean to hijack this thread. |

I don't mean to be a buzz kill here...but, Debbie, I grew up near and area where a lot of homeless live under bridges and on park benches, and have befriended many. My family has had those we felt we knew somewhat for Thanksgiving and Christmas in our home. But when taking one of these homeless men, that we knew, dinner in a tupperware one evening, he physically attacked me. I was 15 and had thought we were friends since he'd been in my home and prayed with my family.
I am not saying that any or all would do this...but desperate people are capable of desperate acts and some are homeless for mental reasons that may not be obvious when talking to them for even weeks. This is even sadder than a man down on his luck. From then on, I have not approached a homeless person alone and hope that you will proceed with caution and highly recommend having someone with you when you do so in the future. I too still enjoy trying to make a small difference in someone's day who is down on their luck, as I feel we are all neighbors here on this earth and would like to think if it were my son, someone would hand him a blessing now and then. On my drive to Minneapolis from Atlanta, I stayed at a hotel in Kentucky where I saw a man lying on a bus stop bench in front of McDonalds. I had a couple of men traveling with me, and we bought him a breakfast sandwich, coffee and juice along with a couple of muffins and waters for later. I remember thinking, there is no way for us to know his situation, and for all we did know, he was a drunk that had been kicked out on his ear for being hateful to his wife the night before. But anyone who wakes up on a bus bench in the morning has had a bad night at the very least. Even mean drunks need to know that kindness still exists...it may even make him realize he needs to work on that temper. So I'm not saying anything bad about giving a smile to one in need at all, just PLEASE be very careful especially just before it turns cold, as after my incident, the police informed me that sometimes desperate people will attack someone hoping to be thrown in jail for the winter months just for the food and shelter. Feeling defenseless on the streets for a while can twist the mind of otherwise civil people to that extreme, I suppose. I didn't mean to get so long winded about this. It is just something I am extremely passionate about. Caution your kindness dear! |

I will have to ask her which she believes is making the biggest difference, but know he's had some regular acupuncture and massage therapies. She tells me she didn't know what else to do with him, and saw many new studies showing huge benefits for various disorders and chemical imbalances in this kind of treatment, in her internet search for any options she'd not yet tried. |

It never hurts to give things a shot if there seem to be no straight answers. Wolf has me looking into a clinic near him for a shoulder injury that my Doc insists needs surgery, but cannot tell me exactly why. I will try anything before getting cut on without knowing why! Wolf is a pretty tricky fella, huh? |
