Judge Orders Parent To Spank Child In Courtroom - Lawsuit Filed

KGBT4:

BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (AP) A Los Fresnos family is going to court to prevent a Cameron County justice of the peace from ordering spankings in his courtroom.

A lawsuit filed today alleges Justice of the Peace Gustavo Gus Garza told a 14-year-old girls stepfather to strike her repeatedly on the buttocks in open court.

If he didnt, the judge said the girl would be found guilty and fined $500 for truancy.

The lawsuit by Mary Vasquez and her husband, Daniel Zurita, described the paddle provided by Garza as large and heavy and fashioned from a thick piece of lumber.

In an affidavit, Zurita says that when he was through, the judge told him he had not struck the girl hard enough.

Now the question:Does a judge have the right to order a parent to repeatedly paddle their child at home or right in the courtroom?

its actually against the law for the step father or a bf that is not the childs father to spank a child, as its against the law, and i knew someone that got thrown in jail for that

I think I know what I'd have done, I'd have picked up a phone and called CPS on the judge.

absolutely not.

the judge should be punishing the child in others ways community service, fines, etc.

telling parents to hit there children is wrong. Hope they take him off the bench.

Tellin ghte parents that maybe they should spank the child at home, is not wrong. HOWEVER, telling them to do so in open court, etc IS wrong.

I'm sorry, but I would have paid the fine before I'd publicly humiliate my child like that. Can you imagine how that must have scarred that child?

I disagree. A judge should not even be telling a parent that they should spank the child at home. They are out-of-line if they do.

At 14 ,a person should know what is right and what is wrong .
The sad question is how to make some sense in a 14 year old person who is like a wall and listens to nobody .

I whole heartedly disagree, That judge should be dis-barred and thrown in prison, A judge is not to be implimenting his own personal beliefs from the bench, that is not what that position is 4!! I dont see much difference between that judge orcastrating the physical abuse of that child and Warren Jeffs Orcastrating the sexual abuse of those young girls. They both have no place in this free world

Free world ?. A world full of crimes , violence , drugs and jails are full . We need a policy in place to restore law and order . Guns in shools ....etc are signs of troubled times .

This world does have its flaws(in my opinion, POVERTY is the root cause of most if not all of those issues) but no one has the right to FORCE there own personal beliefs on anyone else EVER.

Did the guy spank his daughter? If he disbelieved in it why didn't he just take the fine? It's wrong, the judge should be questioned and fined himself. But on the fact that no one was hurt, i think some people are blowing this way out of proportion.

Furthermore the judge should have been called on this right away? Why did no one question it at the time?

(i am not sticking up for the judge on this matter, i am just questioning the intent behind the lawsuit. Why didn't someone do as Warmachine said?)
