Albert Einstein or Stephen Hawking. Opinions? Both took the knowledge of physics up a notch. If Einstein had embraced string theory, he might emerge the winner, but both have made highly significant contributions, and both should be admired. The real winners here are those of us who have or will benefit from their efforts. |

Albert Einstein or Stephen Hawking. Opinions? Einstein's laws and theories are a continuation of Newton's and Hawking's theories are basically a continuation of Einstein's. This could possibly be discussed all night, but I think one wouldn't have been anything without the other. There's a reason they all preceded each other. Some of the knowledge we have today, is a direct reflection of all of their brains at work. |

Sir Issac Newton, Newton laid the ground work out for the theory of realitivy....Einstein just crossed the T's and dotted the I's. Don't forget Pythagoras and "time". |

Hawking: Quantum Gravity and Theoretical Cosomology. The former will probably be of more benefit to mankind as we blaze a new path into quantum physics and mechanics. Nanotechnolgy is the future.

It must be Einstein cuz I never heard of the other guy ![]() Yes - how is it that you all know about this guy? I didn't think physicists were big news. Why is he famous? Probably because he addressed black holes? or it could be because he has been trying to cross the t's and dot the i"s on Einstein's theories of quantum gravity. Regardless he is famous because of his contributions to science. Had Hawking not been disabled at an early age, I believe that there is a possibility that he might not have discovered his gift. |

It must be Einstein cuz I never heard of the other guy ![]() Yes - how is it that you all know about this guy? I didn't think physicists were big news. Why is he famous? Stephen Hawking wrote a very popular (as far as science can be popular) book called "A Brief History of Time." He later followed that up with "A Briefer History of Time." I highly recommend both. He has also appeared on the Simpsons; Homer once referred to him as "Larry Flynt." |

He has also appeared on the Simpsons; Homer once referred to him as "Larry Flynt." I took 5 minutes of physics in college and ran screaming. I was more of a biology and literature person. Are these books about physics or is it something regular idiots can enjoy? I know who Larry Flynt is. And Homer Simpson. ![]() |
