My grammatical Spanish is a little rusty, but I think I made my point. To translate he is saying he doesn't understand why you have to press one for english and 2 for spanish, if you live you here, you should understand english.... did I get that right?? yeah, but I told him I loved him just cuz he said it in Espanol! |

And is it not true that the Spanish speaking population is the largest growing 'minority' in the country?

Carlos Mencia said it best "They are not taking your job, or even a job you would want". That being said how many of you would like to stand on the corner selling fruit in the heat of summer, or mowing acre's and acre's of grass in 100 degree heat? It's not like they are taking corporate jobs here, they are taking jobs that make money and no one else wants to do. Totally off the subject, however, illegal aliens DO effect all of us... they go to our hospitals and then the hospitals go bankrupt because they don't pay the bills.... just one topic.. however...speaking spanish, and being illegal are 2 different things... |

The United States does not have an official language, but English is spoken by about 82% of the population as a native language. On May 18, 2006, the Senate voted on an amendment to an immigration reform bill that would declare English the national language of the United States[3]. The immigration reform bill itself, S. 2611, was passed in the Senate on May 25, 2006, but expired when the Senate and the House of Representatives failed to agree upon the amendments in conference. The Spanish language is the second-most common language in the country, spoken by almost 30 million people (or 13% of the population) in 2005. Sorry Rose, this was too good not to jack. lol hey I put up the link. run with it. i just know how annoying it can be to copy/paste an entire article |

And my mother is from mexico and she does know how to speak english also not as good as me but she know is it not my right to talk to her in spanish if i choos cuz its easy for my mom? and as far as immigrants haw many of your great great great great grand parents are from north america as far as irish or french or british or any part of the world i think most of our family migrated here so why cant the mexicans?
Now i do believe u should do it legaly. my mother told me once why r they treating the illegals like they did something bad and i said the r breaking the law but why wont we make it easy for mexican people to come and make a life in the land of opportunity when back in the day we were letting immigrants come in by the boat load. Any ways yes if u r going to live here yes u do need to speak english cuz if u need help then say it in english cuz if u ask for it in spanish or any other language they might not know what u r saying. I dont see why i cant speak spanish to my mother and then turn around and say pardon me in english. |

You know the easy way around this? Learn Latin, it's the basis for the majority of languages used (Greek is helpful) then you can put two and two together to figure out what they're saying...confuses them though, how you can understand what they say but not speak to them...irritating too. I took three years of Latin and you are right. |

I live in a multicultural country and we seem to be more laid back......since my country was made up of many different nationalities, as was yours. Now to speak only english maybe that would be the first language of England but I believe the first people to roams our countries were the aboriginals so maybe we should all learn some cree or maybe some apache?

That's what this post was about. |

aaaahhh so this is the dreaded thread spoken about before.
JMO only - I speak more than one language, and it is up to me which language I "chose/desire/feel" like expressing myself in. Regardless of whether in public/private/or in a nutshell. What I do, is just that my business, just as what I say and how I say it is. Like I said, Just My Opinion |
