I am blessed to live with my sisters family so I can help her and the family out and make it easier for them. My sister can't afford her meds and I would love to go to work even if it's just to pay for her meds. I know first hand what the state allows. My sister is bed ridden and had to fight tooth and nail to even get any help when I have seen...first hand...people who simply don't want to work no matter what they receive. no this isn't everyone...but it happens. My aunt was on welfare in CO and part of their program was to train people. after she got training in computer technician and it was time for her to work....she decided she didn't want to do that...and went to another state for welfare. I KNOW it happens. does she have a mental illness because she doesn't want to work? couldn't we say everyone n the world has a mental illness about something? not everyone with a mental illness says admits to it, unless they have help or reaching out for help. at that point part of it is not not use a mental illness as a crutch. Unless you are SERIOUSLY ill...it shouldn't be an excuse

actually if one is working or able to work then they are not eligible for disability regardless of what is wrong with them that is more than likely why it takes years to get approved if you survive the time frame without working then you may get approved they must figure if you do not work instead you are disabled in one way or another my sister was on a morphine drip and had a permanent port in her for IVs. she was always in the hospital. it was a tooth and nail fight that took years |

Just remember in all the judging people do on these subjects. Never judge another until you walk a mile in their shoes. There is always more to a person's story then is obvious and we should always give EVERYONE THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT when it comes to judging them as less than us or not deserving of life. 12 kids, there is little doubt her shoes are in great shape, because her feet were always in the air! No doubt about that! That is pretty judgemental there don't ya think? We already established that promiscuity is associated with a mental illness so that is a bit harsh don't ya think? actually...you established that. assuming that you might as well say we all have a mental illness for any issues we may have in life |

But..you will be denied it the first time you apply. It is automatic. Then you appeal it. That seems to be standard procedure. |

Signs of Clinical Depression
* Concentration is often impaired * Inability to experience pleasure * Increase in self-critical thoughts with a voice in the back of one's mind providing a constant barrage of harsh, negative statements * Sleep disturbance or unable to fall back to sleep * Feeling fatigued after 12 hours of sleep * Decrease in appetite or food loses its taste * Feelings of guilt, helplessness and/or hopelessness * Thoughts of suicide * Increased isolation * Missing deadlines or a drop in standards * Change in personality * Increased sexual promiscuity * Increased alcohol/drug use If someone experiences most of the above symptoms for more than two weeks, there is a good chance they are suffering from a clinical depression. http://www.dartmouth.edu/~chd/resources/depression/signs.html ------- note second to last many articles on sex prom http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=zej&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=sexual+promiscuity+and+mental+health&spell=1 |

Unless you are SERIOUSLY ill...it shouldn't be an excuse The mentally ill are the most under diagnosed and under treated people in this country. Mentally ill people do not know they have problems so they attempt to live normal lives but are unable. If we could identify, diagnose and treat these people the welfare system and other systems would have great relief. This is proven fact. So dismiss the mentally ill as most do but the systems of help will see no relief from this outlook. |

And I'd like to point out no one is dismissing the mentally ill. We are simply disagreeing that the women in the story is obviously mentally ill because she had 12 kids. Are you aware you are arguing with yourself? Really.... |

Many in-patients were even let out to live in the streets. |

So far you're the only person in this thread who's even hinted that. |

I agree with most of this post. Don't think I dismiss mental illness. If someone is on assistance it needs to be addressed before they have 12 kids.
Actually I am sure she is mentally ill. I would die of shame if I were her! |
