Why can't those illegals be deported back the way they came? Why does Homeland Security need to bus these people (34,000 per year) half way across the continent just to drop them off in a place where it's certain they will cross again into the State of Texas?

I've been exposed to enough of the corporate hiring process to know that the last question they ask before "when can you start?" is "Are you legal to work in the United States?"..

Yes, there are businesses that take advantage of the illegal labor pool. But by and large those aren't corporate, i.e. publicly traded, entities. They are mostly small, privately held, independent companies.. with the possible exception of the independent and small- to medium-chain and restaurants and some sectors in agriculture. most, I dare say, of the illegals who are "employed" work for independent contractors in construction, landscaping, house cleaning, , etc, odd job day laborers, tire & mechanic shops.. menial manual labor jobs that don't require a high degree of education..

"Corporate America" isnt the problem...

Some companies, many in fact, do hire illegals.. but it's only a supply and demand thing.. There is a large supply of comparatively cheap labor. So the demand for it has grown.

If we took the two-pronged approach of limiting the supply (i.e. enforcing the immigration laws at BOTH borders) and limiting the demand (i.e. enforcing existing labor laws on those companies that exploit illegal labor), we'd go a long way toward putting the brakes on the massive influx of illegals..
