Captain Kangaroo passed away on January 23, 2004 as age 76 , which is
odd, because he always looked to be 76. (DOB: 6/27/27 ) His death
reminded me of the following story.

Some people have been a bit offended that the actor, Lee Marvin, is
buried in a grave alongside 3 and 4 star generals at Arlington National
Cemetery . His marker gives his name, rank (PVT) and service (USMC).
Nothing else. Here's a guy who was only a famous movie star who served
his time, why the heck does he rate burial with these guys? Well,
following is the amazing answer:

I always liked Lee Marvin, but didn't know the extent of his Corps
experiences.

In a time when many Hollywood stars served their country in the armed
forces often in rear echelon posts where they were carefully protected,
only to be trotted out to perform for the cameras in war bond
promotions,

Lee Marvin was a genuine hero. He won the Navy Cross at Iwo Jima There
is only one higher Naval award... the Medal Of Honor

If that is a surprising comment on the true character of the man, he
credits his sergeant with an even greater show of bravery.

Dialog from "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson": His guest was Lee
Marvin Johnny said, "Lee, I'll bet a lot of people are unaware that
you were a Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima ...and that during
the course of that action you earned the Navy Cross and were severely
wounded."

"Yeah, yeah... I got shot square in the bottom and they gave me the
Cross for securing a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi. Bad thing
about getting shot up on a mountain is guys getting' shot hauling you
down. But,Johnny, at Iwo I served under the bravest man I ever knew...
We both got the cross the same day, but what he did for his Cross made
mine look cheap in comparison. That dumb guy actually stood up on Red
beach and directed his troops to move forward and get the hell off the
beach. Bullets flying by, with mortar rounds landing everywhere and he
stood there as the main target of gunfire s o that he could get his men
to safety. He did this on more than one occasion because his men's
safety was more important than his own life.

That Sergeant and I have been lifelong friends. When they brought me
off Suribachi we passed the Sergeant and he lit a smoke and passed it to
me, lying on my belly on the litter and said, where'd they get you Lee?'
Well Bob... if you make it home be fore me, tell Mom to sell the
outhouse!"
Johnny, I'm not lying, Sergeant Keeshan was the bravest man I ever knew.

The Sergeant's name is Bob Keeshan. You and the world know him as
Captain Kangaroo."

On another note, there was this wimpy little man (who just passed away)
on PBS, gentle and quiet. Mr. Rogers is another of those you would
least suspect of being anything but what he now portrays to our youth.
But Mr. Rogers was a U.S. Navy Seal, combat-proven in Vietnam with over
twenty-five confirmed kills to his name. He wore a long-sleeved
sweater on TV, to cover the many tattoos on his forearm and biceps. He
was a master in small arms and hand-to-hand combat, able to disarm or
kill in a heartbeat

After the war Mr. Rogers became an ordained Presbyterian minister and
therefore a pacifist. Vowing to never harm a nother human and also
dedicating the rest of his life to trying to help lead children on the
right path in life. He hid away the tattoos and his past life and won
our hearts with his quiet wit and charm.

America's real heroes don't flaunt what they did; they quietly go about
their day-to-day lives, doing what they do best They earned our respect
and the freedoms that we all enjoy. Look around and see if you can
find one of those heroes in your midst.

Often, they are the ones you'd least suspect, but would most like to
have on your side if anything ever happened
Take the time to thank anyone that has fought for our freedom. W ith
encouragement they could be the next Captain Kangaroo or Mr.Rogers

A grandson came to visit his grandparents and noticed his grandfather
sitting on the porch in the rocker, wearing only a shirt, naked from the
waist down.

"Grandpa, whatcha' doing? You're weenie's out in the wind for all to
see!" he exclaimed. Grandpa looked off in the distance, not answering.

"Grandpa, whatcha' doin' sitting out here with nothing on below the
waist?" he asked again.

Grandpa looked at him and said, "Last week I sat here with no shirt on
and got a stiff neck. This is your grandma's idea..."

GREAT TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED:
1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats.
2) When your Mom is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair.
3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the
second person.
4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.
5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food.
6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.
7) Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.
8) You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.
10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.

GREAT TRUTHS THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED:
1) Raising teenagers is like nailing Jell-O to a tree.
2) Wrinkles don't hurt.
3) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet, with a few nuts.
4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside.
6) Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy.

GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD
1) Growing up is mandatory; growing old is optional.
2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down
there.
4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking
chair that you once got from a roller coaster.
5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to
ask you the questions.
6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.
7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE:
1) You believe in Santa Claus.
2) You don't believe in Santa Claus.
3) You are Santa Claus.
4) You look like Santa Claus.

SUCCESS:
At age 4 success is . Not peeing in your pants.
At age 12 success is . Having friends.
At age 16 success is . Having a drivers license.
At age 35 success is having money.
At age 50 success is . . . Having money.
At age 70 success is . . . Having a drivers license.
At age 75 success is . Having friends.
At age 80 success is . Not peeing in your pants.

I love the next sentence the best!
Always remember to forget the troubles that pass your way; BUT NEVER
forget the blessings that come each day.

Have a wonderful day with many smiles!

A crusty old man walks into a bank and says to the teller, "I want to
open a damn checking account"

The astonished woman replies," I beg your pardon, sir. I must have
misunderstood you. What did you say?"

"Listen up, damn it. I said I want to open a damn checking account now!"

"I'm very sorry sir, but that kind of language is not tolerated in this
bank." The teller leaves the window and goes over to the bank manager to
inform him of her situation. The manager agrees that the teller does not
have to listen to that foul language. They both return to the window and
the manager asks
the old geezer, "Sir, what seems to be the problem here?"

"There is no damn problem," the man says, "I just won $200 million bucks
in the damn lottery and I want to put my damn money in this damn bank."

"I see," says the manager, "and is this damn ***** giving you a hard
time?"

She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street. She's the
smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick and perfume that
she wore. She's the cool hand on your brow when you're not feeling well,
she's your breath in the air on a cold winter's day. She is the sound of
the rain that lulls you to sleep, the colors of a rainbow, she is
Christmas morning.

She lives inside your laughter. And she's crystallized in every tear
drop. She shows every emotion .......... happiness, sadness, fear,
jealousy, love, hate, anger, helplessness, excitement, joy, sorrow.....
and all the while, hoping and praying you will only know the good
feelings in life.

She's the place you came from, your first home, and she's the map you
follow with every step you take. She's your first love, your first
friend, even your first enemy, but nothing on earth can separate you.
Not time, not space.......not even death!

She is your MOTHER.

Before I was a Mom, I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a
lullaby. I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never
thought about immunization.

Before I was a Mom, I had never been puked on. Pooped on. Chewed on.
Peed on. I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts. I slept all
night.

Before I was a Mom, I never held down a screaming child so doctors could
do tests. Or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I
never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours
at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom, I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't
want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn't stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small
could affect my life so much.. I never knew that I could love someone so
much. I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom, I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside
my body. I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn't know
that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom, I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known the
warmth, The joy, The love, The heartache, The wonderment or the
satisfaction of being a Mom. I didn't know I was capable of feeling so
much before I was a Mom.

And before I was a Grandma, I didn't know that all those "Mom" feelings
more than doubled when you see that little bundle being held by "your
baby"...

And remember that behind every successful mother... Is a basket of dirty
laundry.

WISHING ALL MOTHERS A VERY HAPPY AND FRUITFUL MOTHER'S DAY!

Well, I don't know much about your busing system or even school system,
Puerto Rico's enviroment is somewhat different, but I believe that you
should try to establish a parent group of all those that use your school
bus route and talk to the bus administration on their policies of
letting children of the bus before reaching their school. Have each
mother call the school to assure themselves that the children have
arrived - I am sure that after a few months of this hassle they will do
something to correct it. If they dismiss the calls and something does
happen - they could be liable.

Ideas can also come from the parent group on things to do to help each
other....

Well just something .....

Mirror or 2-Way Glass?

How can you tell when you are in a room, restroom, motel etc. with a
mirror or a 2-way glass?

Here's how:
I thought it was quite interesting! And I know in about 30 seconds
you're going to do what I did and find the nearest mirror....

Do you know how to determine if a mirror is 2-way or not?
This is not to scare you, but to make you aware. A policewoman, who
travels all over the U.S. and gives seminars and techniques for
businesswomen, passed this on.

When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc., how
many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging on
the wall is a real mirror, or actually a 2-way mirror (i.e., they can
see you, but you can't see them)?
There have been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in female
changing rooms. It is very difficult to positively identify. So, how do
we determine with any amount of certainty what type of mirror we are
looking at? Just conduct this simple test:

Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and, if
there is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then
it is a GENUINE mirror. However, if your fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES
the image of your nail, then BEWARE, FOR IT IS a 2-WAY MIRROR!

No Space, Leave the Place

So remember, every time you see a Mirror, do the "fingernail test." It
doesn't cost you anything.

Remember: "No Space, Leave the Place"

Received this on my email, thought I'd pass it along.

Hi, all you animal lovers. This is pretty simple.. Please tell ten
friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble
getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of
getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.

It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on the purple
box "fund food for animals" for free. This doesn't cost you a thing.

Their corporate sponsors/advertiser s use the number of daily visits to
donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

AGAIN, PLEASE TELL 10 FRIENDS!!!
Thanks,

I could not find a forum that best describes this topic....

A financially stable father wanted to let his son know what it meant to
be poor. So he arranged for his son to spend a weekend with a family
from a farm. He would spend three days and two nights living in the
country.

After the allotted time, the father picked up his son and returning to
the city he asked his son: “What do you think of the experience?”

“It was okay.” answered the son with his sight fixed in the distance.

“And….. What did you learn?” insisted the father.

The son answered: “We have one dog, they have four.
We have a swimming pool that fills out our yard, they have a never
ending river, that flows with cristal clear water, that has fishs. We
import Oriental lanterns that light up our garden, they have the stars,
the moon and candles to light up their house.

“Our yard extends to the fence, their to the horizon. We buy our food,
they sow and reap theirs. We listen to CD’s, they have an eternal
symphony of birds, frogs, toads and other animals chirping, while
sometimes you can hear the neighbor plowing his fields.”

“We cook on an electric stove, while all they eat has the taste of
charcoal flavor. We live fenced in, with an alarm system, they live with
their doors open protected by the friendship of their neighbors.”

We live connected to the cellular phone, the television, the computer,…
they, in turn, live connected to life, the sky, the earth, the sun, the
water, to their animals, their crops and their family.”

The father was astound by his son’s deep consciousness on the matter….
Then the son concluded by saying: “thank you, dad, for teaching me how
poor we are.”

Each day we become weaker in spirit, unable to appreciated the great
works of nature our Creator has given us. Hope that this makes you think
and re-evaluated your lives somewhat. God Bless you all.

Rum! Puerto Rico is a big manufacterer of rum. Bacardi, Don Q, Ron Rico,
Palo Viejo, Barril and a few others. The two most exported are Bacardi
and Don Q.

Very good and if mixed with Anisette (half and half), boy what a trip.

By the way, I liked your introduction to the history of the rum
industry.

SOCIAL SECURITY: (This is worth reading. It is short and to the point.)

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years.
Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of
course, they do not collect from it.

You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their
rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for
themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it.
After all, it is a great plan. For all practical purposes their plan
works like this:
When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.
Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments.
For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may
expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred
Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275, 000.00 during the last
years of their lives.

This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two
Dignitaries. Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will
receive much more during the rest of their lives.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00! . NADA, ZILCH!!
This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I
pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan
come directly from the General Funds; "OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK "!

From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid)
into, every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our
employer). We can expect to get an average of $1,000 per month after
retirement. Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of
$1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator
Bill Bradley's benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.
That change would be to:
Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and
Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us.
Then sit back… And see how fast they would fix it.

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted
and maybe good changes will evolve.

NOTE: I got this from a cousin of mine...... thought I'd pass it on.

For starters, location, picture (although many do not have pictures),
age (some folks don't act or look their age, in which case tells me that
the picture most likely is NOT of them).

Then I read the physical appearance, about me (interests mostly)and
finally their actual status (and I've seen some that have been left
blank)

So, I guess I look at all the profile. See if the person fits the
character on the forums.... and yes, not all go into the forums.... Just
have to judge their character from the profile and pray that this person
is true and not a spammer, hustler or stalker!

Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell
Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School
shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House
Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders
during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well.
It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician,
every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These
courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and
deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice
crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the
hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the
seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott,
and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who
died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel
out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it
the N CA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and
the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how
quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not
a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am
not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that
they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe
that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do
with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it
was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the
real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the
blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I
wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!

"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and
spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we
create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and
wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational
systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges
began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has
happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so
doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as
terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look
for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more
restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private
liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would
not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop
someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real
villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his
two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray
in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I
challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to
realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was
brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by
those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a
sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to
communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the
NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your own heart
before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this
country will not allow that to happen!"

Do what the media did not - - let the nation hear this man's speech..
