Well let’s say for a minute that your god truly did make everything all at once...poof. That is your claim correct? He’s omniscient and he just snapped his fingers and walla. Then why would there still be the pressing need for microevolution? Was your god so inept that he couldn’t just create all of the plant life and the animals and the humans perfectly formed and adapted to their surroundings? Wait, he created their surroundings correct? Wouldn’t he know about the coming ice age and the predation pressures and food supply and shortages ahead of time? Why would microevolution be needed at tall? And you can’t have microevolution and refute macro unless you just want to argue.

Ever see the evolutionary explination for a butterly?
Yep I have in fact. It’s linked to a process called "reinforcement". What this does is prevents closely related species from interbreeding thus driving them further apart genetically and promoting speciation. Is that what you are asking as far as how butterflies adapted and evolved? |

One can certainly consider all the possibilities - but that doesn't mean a good number of them just won't be simply rejected. How many people do you think are on these threads who reject the bible without ever reading it? Think on that and we'll revisit "objectivity" and "open mindedness".
I have spent the last 8 months reading the bible at the request of religious zealots on these forums (you were one) and I have completed the OT and read about a third of the new although the new is very disappointing. Every time I voice a new contradiction or concern or error or depiction of misogynistic tyranny, I am told to read the bible...its circular. I'm quite happy to hear this. I realize that you are going to have questions, and you have a well grounded world view of evolution behind you - so it makes reading the bible even more difficult, but at least you will be familiar enough with it, even if through just a casual reading, to recognise false conjectures for yourself, rather than rely on someone's pretextual demonstrations. It will certainly make you better equiped to support your posts on christainity, be they positive or negative. Well yes, that’s seems to be what has been taking place. You essentially gave me an entire arsenal of ammunition. Before the bible was just annoying. Now I can prove it to be irresponsible and contradictory. |

Actually - that is not what I'm saying. I'm saying that there is no "scientific" evidence to support Evolution as even a scientific theory.
That’s not true at all. If you are incapable of AT LEAST demonstrating proof of Creationism on the same level that scientists have been showing in support of biological evolution, then there is no reason to accept your claims. Period |

I will no longer participate in your threads, but wow...I do question your motives. I do not see you being here to make friends or find love. From what I have observed, you are here to attack and insult. Nothing you have posted has been, in any way, uplifting or positive toward other members. If you were sincerely seeking knowledge or looking to broaden your own perspective with other members' views, that would be different. But it seems to me that your objective here is to anger people and to make the forum environment tense and combative. And further....my bet is that you will reply with an insult to my character. It's certainly a free world, but I think that, if you're going to keep attacking and insulting people of faith, I would prefer you do it somewhere else. By voicing this comment, you are a "participant in Satan’s thread." This is the "logic" that truly slays me right here being displayed. You are like the dieter that blames the chocolate cake for existing after you have eaten the entire thing. General religion is open to debate or discussion of ANY and ALL religious belief or spiritual pursuit. Funches is well within his right to post here. If you are offended, perhaps you should take your own advice and simply not participate and ignore. You are also free to hit that report button if you feel he has broken any rule. Go on. Do it. |

Most Christians dont take all of the stories in the bible to be as literal truth. That is a small percentage of Christians that insist on doing this. It just seems like all of them at times because there are about 12 or so outspoken fundamentalist on this forum.

trust no one. back up plan? I would interpret that comment to mean "you can not hang your hat on any man." Take care of yourself. Dont put all of your eggs in one basket etc etc... |

I was arguing this point with Deb the other day on another thread but didnt have my facts straight or numbers correct. Thanks. Im sure she will see that and argue with it anyway. Its just because they surround themselves with other like-minded fundamentalists so their world view is entirely obscured by people that all share the same belief system.

Blah, I would not go crazy on expenditures for items such as this. You dont want to go into your marriage with a bunch of crippling credit card debt. That will only lead to additional stress and fighting. Personally, I would be more interested in a nicer honeymoon. Egypt or some place incredibly exotic or romantic. I would be able to give up the ring for that instead. You have to talk to Lisa though and get a feel for what is most important to her. She has always wanted to go to Egypt! I made this thread out of interest, rather than because im planning to go out and buy a ring right now. But yeah i would discuss it with her, like she said, she will have to wear it everyday for a long time. Though one thing i was unsure of, was whether or not you should already have the ring when you propose? Its hard to do that if you have been talking about it in detail. Yeah you still need to present her with the engagement ring when you propose. Its a symbol of the commitment to come so to speak. What kind of jewelry does she normally wear? I personally like semi precious stones like amethyst and you could get something like that which is gorgeous but not all that expensive. Not comparatively to a diamond anyway. I honestly dont like diamonds and find them boring. Everyone is different though. If you know she wants to travel, I might just take a risk on it and get her the less expensive engagement ring and then start arrangements for a nice honeymoon. You can also set up an account that your friends and family can donate to your "vacation fund" instead of getting you a wedding gift. You can set that up online. |

It seems like many Protestants are fundamentalists however. Have you noticed that? At least on these forums anyway. I know most Catholics are okay with evolution.

Smiless many of them believe that the fossil record is inaccurately measured and calibrated using standard means to date like Carbon 14. They just assume that all of these fossils found in museums all over the world are incorrectly assessed as to their age. They realistically cannot deny that hundreds of millions of fossils reside in display cases and drawers around the world. Some of the fundies attempt to argue that these specimens, huge skeletons of dinosaurs, blocks from ancient shell beds containing hundreds of specimens, delicately preserved fern fronds, have been manufactured by scientists to confuse the public. This is clearly ludicrous. They also think they had dinosaur eggs on the arc.

Na, I think a couple others did. They mentioned condoms. Technically you should use condoms even when engaging in oral sex. Im guilty of not doing that.

Common sense is not always so common I guess. Anyway Im not telling you anything you dont know. Just open yourself up to it is the best advice really. The alternative is living a nice, safe little existence locked up in an apartment with 15 cats.
