There are serious problems with the idea that aliens are coming here to visit us, mainly around the huge distances involved. It would take hundreds of years travelling at light speed to get from the nearest possible place of life to our planet. And we can probably assume that the nearest possible place doesn't have life. And we can probably assume that they haven't figured out a way to travel at the speed of light.

I guess on one level it depends on what they're lying about. If one guy knowingly lies about getting a blow job, apparently that's grounds for an impeachment hearing. If another guy knowingly lies to start a trillion-dollar war that gets thousands of American citizens killed for no good reason - apparently that's OK.

I saw some episodes of this and I don't get it. What's the appeal? All I saw was a bunch of uneducated yahoos fighting and saying stupid things. How is that entertaining?

If we watch this show in large numbers, I think we've given up the right to complain about bad television. Someone's paying their sponsors, and it's us. There's no such thing as watching this gibberish "ironically".

I'm more scared of all these people who love guns being able to buy them than I am of the army being set loose on the people, or whatever the paranoid delusion is. I'm never quite clear.

However, the wording in the Second Amendment could be read like this:

"Because an army is necessary for the security of the state, the private citizens can carry guns."

Which probably made a lot of sense at the time. Now, not so much. I'm not sure how much we should be pandering to paranoid delusions. In any case, the idea that you might want to declare war on your own government, and arm yourself for that specific purpose... only in America would you consider that patriotism. Any other country in the world would call that treason.
