Hello everyone I've been on this site for a while but have never posted in the sports, health, fitness forum. I decided I am going to run a half marathon which I start training on Monday for. I am kind of nervous about but it is for UC and Crohn's Disease. I have to fundraise for it and the money goes to research for a cure and education to CCFA.
I'm hoping maybe a couple people would be kind enough to donate to my page. any amount of money is appreciated...even a dollar and its a good cause. It is a disease I have been dealing with since I was 16. It sucks and is very painful sometimes. Any support would be great. Thanks :) My personal website is below http://www.active.com/donate/vegas11centralfl/LVSKeck |

There is no mosque being built on the site of Ground Zero. It's a simple fact, but one that news consumers can be forgiven for missing. In covering the growing controversy over the proposed Islamic community center in lower Manhattan, the national media, led by the big cable networks, have by default shaped the increasingly heated debate by repeatedly referring to the project as the "Ground Zero mosque." An MSNBC spokesman said that describing the project is a "show-by-show decision," while a CNN spokesperson said the network guides anchors in written copy to refer to the project as "an Islamic center that includes a mosque that is near Ground Zero, or is two blocks from Ground Zero." Of course, political pundits may stray from the network's phrasing and inaccurately describe the location of the planned building at the center of the furor. But Phil Corbett, the New York Times' standards editor said, "Given how politically volatile this discussion has been, we think it's important to be accurate and precise," in explaining the paper's consistent references to the planned structure being two blocks from the Ground Zero site. The "Park51" project, as it's officially dubbed, is in fact planned for a site two blocks from where the World Trade Center towers fell, amid other lower Manhattan establishments whose names have never featured the words "Ground Zero." If built, the 13-story community center and mosque project will be one of hundreds of buildings located within blocks of Ground Zero — a densely populated area that already includes a couple of mosques, along with less "hallowed" institutions, like strip clubs, bars and Off Track Betting operations. But Park51 is getting all the attention downtown — and now, nationwide. President Obama affirmed the constitutional right to build a mosque on private property Friday, breathing new life into an already long-raging controversy. In covering Obama's recent remarks — and the past couple months of debate — the media's played a pivotal role in framing the issues at hand. Here's a rundown of how the media covered the debate as it took shape. Location, location, location News organizations make conscious decisions when they describe a construction work-in-progress as either located on the site of the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history or two blocks away. The New York Times — except for one blog headline — has consistently described the mosque in headlines as not being built at Ground Zero but "near" the site. Corbett, who oversees the Times standards on such questions, told The Upshot that he hasn't issued any formal guidelines but has discussed that particular phrasing with editors. "To call it the Ground Zero Mosque not only would give you the impression that it's on the site of the Trade Center," he continued, "but it might even give you the further impression that it's part of the rebuilding process to that site." The Times appears to be in the minority, judging by headlines related to Obama's remarks. Many news organizations ran headlines this past weekend describing a "Ground Zero mosque," including the Associated Press, Huffington Post, Washington Post, Fox News, New York Daily News, Politico, and AOL's Politics Daily site. (Yahoo! News, linking to an AP story on the remarks, similarly went with "Ground Zero mosque.") Several other news organizations routinely place "Ground Zero" in quotation marks, which is more of shorthand way of describing the debate without pinpointing the location. |

its not a mosque. its not a church. its a rec center/pre school and its 3 blocks from ground zero. its not okay to have a "mosque" built bc its disrespectful...but its okay for strip clubs to be there? doesnt make much sense to me. strippers didn't kill 2700 people there... muslims did.. and it is a mosque, with some editions... no actually al queda did and they happen to be muslims. just like the oklahoma city bombers who killed lots of people...and happen to be christian, so by that logic there should be no christian church "with editions" built near that ground zero. fact is. u attributing all muslims to killing those people...which is wrong and u know it. its generalizing and completely stupid. "al queda did and they happen to be muslims" ...That just happened to be attacking us based on their religion and Allah. so u punish all muslims bc of a group of radicals? thats not logical. who is being punished? if the majority of the people in new york says they don't want it there, they should move it...the muslims say it is a symbol of peace and enlightenment, to bring all cultures together, and it is just pissing people off. it has already failed in that respect. if the muslims want peace and enlightenment, they should put it somewhere else. THANK YOU! I AGREEE! the majority of new yorkers say it? well unfortuantely it doesnt matter what they think bc its private property. if it is true that the majority of new yorkers feel that way then they should have a vote..but they cant..bc its private property and theres nothing that should be done about it. its like get over it. and maybe hats harsh but my brother died there and i dont give two ***** if its built there. |

No but I sure don't want the SAME religion being practiced in the shadow of the attack. And how are we punishing them? Im fine if they move it out more. yes but where do u draw the line? it is moved out. its 3 blocks away. how many blocks away must it be before its okay to have it there? u see what im getting it. the rationale to keep it? bc it shouldnt matter what religion is there. i didnt hear people flipping there lid when a christian church was built by an area that christian extremists attacked. |

I have no discrimination against any American Muslims and I am so tired of hearing about how we are being prejudice and restricting religious freedoms. FACT: The Muslims who attacked us on 9/11 were doing it in the name of "their religion" and "allah". THAT is well documented. IT IS a slap in the face to any american to want to put a Mosque to celebrate "their religion" in the shadow where so many HUMANS died and suffered. FACT: One of the first basic principles in ANY religion is COMPASSION. With the majority of Americans protesting this particular site you would think the Muslims would just put it some where else based on Compassion for other HUMANS. I will say, IF there had been a Mosque there before the attack and they where just remodeling or rebuilding an existing building...There would be less of a problem if any. Where is the compassion in making such a decision. Lets think of this in another scenario... What if a Catholic Church or preist training (idk) set up a building right across from a youth camp of boys. Think about it. Just my two cents! but its not a mosque Then what is it? I heard now they are portraying it as some kind of community center. Ummm don't care. If they practice the "muslim religion" there...It should NOT be there! its a rec center/pre school or a community center but its always been that. and there are muslims who died in ground zero who werent the attackers. where do u draw the line? bc if u use this logic for this...then u must use it for everything...which we dont. ttherefore its irrational |
