That's the difference between the two times, many of the Jews in the time of Jesus were repentant for their sins and sought salvation, but during Noah's days, the hearts of men were turned towards wickedness. This is precisely the argument I expected. The reason that I personally reject this argument is because it only looks at the precise moment in the times of the actual stories. However, we can't do that. That's not the full picture. There had to have been a time prior to the flood when all men were not evil and many indeed were seeking to serve God. Therefore the argument that, because every man was evil at the time of the flood the situation on the ground was different, doesn't hold water (if you'll excuse the pun). It doesn't hold water, because that's merely the pinnacle of the story, but there must have been times earlier, prior to the flood, when all men were not evil and therefore those times would have been equal opportunities for God to have offered salvation before he allowed the whole world to become corrupt. I've thought of all these possibilities before Spider. This explanation does not hold water IMHO. I realized that I quoted the wrong post. This is the post I intended to quote. This is what you are voting on. We have one Yay. ok, im lost?? At the moment the Yay's have it |

Here's what her about me says, I've been divorced for about five years after a twenty-five year marriage. I am enjoying this new phase of my life. I have adult children and twin granddaughters. I am a dog person and have a blue heeler. I live in the country although I do go to the city for the bookstores and other attractions. I love the Red Wings and still subject myself to Lions games.(FIRE MATT MILLEN!) I appreciate beer ( I am a home brewer) more than wine and couldn't do without a good steak now and then. Most of my time is spent studying, with family, playing worlds of warcraft and wandering around outside when I can. I'll bet she hasnt been far! What say Lynann?? Oh, so you cant have a go at me, so you want to pick on your fellow Americans ... how typically small minded. I notice the one thing you didnt use was the power of the US is its people. I would not dispute that, but you obviously would rather not think of them ... No problem ... Ill give you a head start ... THE POWER OF THE US IS BECAUSE OF THE MAJORITY OF ITS PEOPLE Jeez, why I debate with such a ********* is beyond me! |

No Europe is nothing like it! Even the Swiss Alps cant compare to the Rockies, and Ive see the Alps!. Europe has no Grand Canyon, not that I saw. But then you have never been able to straddle two tectonic plates in the US. I never saw anywhere you could drive a tank of gas out of a car before you see another gas station like you can in Texas.
Thats because you have never been to the Steppes Oh this is going to be so tedious ... Lets face it, you have never been anywhere that the army didnt send you, or you took a break from the army to go visit. I never saw anywhere in Europe that you could stand in an Ocean of grain and see nothing else for as far as you could see.
Thats because we dont horde it, and it would repulse me to think of the starving millions on your doorstep that needed that food. But that's a social conscience for you. Or step back in time in the Appalachians with the Cherokee Indians.
No, we go to our own history, not to someone elses - and we can track our history back over 1000 years .. yours is a little over 220 ... Or Forest where you could hike for days and never see another human!
Wrong again ... try Scandinavia (crossing three countries to do it) Or stand on the shores of Lakes and Rivers you cant see across on a good day.
Zzzzz The Bodensee, Lake Constance, Ijselmeer ... I could Go on and on for days and still not mention something.
You really should come visit for about 20 yrs and see a little of it, or 5 yrs and see a tiny bit of it! We even have Moose, Elk, and Wild Mt Goats. Wolf, Coyote, and otter! Do you have any idea about the wildlife in Europe? We also have wolf, bears, otter, mountain goats ... But the difference is that I have seen the majority of these things ... you havent. So how you can say they are not worth it, is beyond me. |

You could live in one of the largest most technological Cities in the world, or one of the most isolated and remote wildernesses. You can live at over a mile above sea level to below sea level. You can live with Grizzlies and Mt Lions for neighbors or sea crabs and logger-neck turtles, scorpions and Road Runners or beaver and muskrats. You can live with Canadian, or Italian America neighbors, Jewish, German, Chinese, Hungarian, Japanese, or any one of the S American people as neighbors. Russian, Ukrainian, Irish, Scottish, Swedish, English, Iraqi, Iranian, Syrians, Lebanese, Jordanians, or Egyptian! Republicans or Democrats, Communist or Socialist, or just plain old Independents. This truly is the World my friend and many Americans never see it all or even wish to see it all. You can travel the country freely or be content in the same town you were born in your whole life! Your choice! Freedom is Grand!! America is Great!! So apart form absolutely no difference at all (except the indigenous wildlife) I think you are talking Europe. Next? |

You could live here your whole life, see something new and spectacular everyday, and still not see it all! It truly is the most wonderful and beautiful place in the world! Europe is the same. Anything else? |

No it really is special. Her spacious skies From sea to shining sea! Her purple mts majesty, her amber waves of grain Her spacious skies above her fruited plains The spirit and soul of every person!! Truly the most wonderful place on Earth!! All applies to Europe too ... |

I have more! When was the last time you were there? Actually about 4 months ago. I believe that the last time you were there was 20 years ago ... of course you would be right up to date with what is going on. Most of those articles you have used before. got a little library of them, have you? They must be a little worn and dog-eared now. So, because you are scared to leave you hut in the woods, you believe that all Americans should be afraid to come to Europe? I also think that the majority of financial troubles in Europe stem from your inability to control your own budget. Would you like me to start googling American deficits, American reposessions, the homeless, the immigrants? Go back to your hut in the woods and let the real people live Nope, I think they should all go and see for themselves what the millions of the rest of us Americans, who have already been to Europe, have seen. Its a nice place to visit, but there's nothing finer than to be right here in the world. The World, that's what we called the States. You know, AMERICA!! Europe is OK, but its far far from utopia!! No one said it was utopia, apart from you bringing it up ... lol and if you think the US is utopia then you really need to get a life. You call the States, The World? A trifle arrogant, dont you think? I call it a small part of the world. But then that probably because I have seen a lot of the world. Not America, I admit, but enough of the world to know that you are delusional if you think the world begins and ends with the US. |

I stick with my Jap stuff.
I rode my brother's four year old HD for three hours before the trailer came to return it to the shop and I have to say it was the most uncomfortable ride I have ever had. I was very disappointed. I did have high hopes for it - I was even looking at buying it from him. I also worked in a bike shop and the majority of stuff we had was hi-spec Jap, Italian & German race bikes. I cannot ride these for too long as the extra padding I have at the front, above my belt, makes it uncomfortable after about 2 or three hours. But I did have a Hayabusa that I took to Spain on regular trips. Apart from a new back tyre every 2000 miles (if you rode it like you were insistant on meeting your maker) I loved its stability, its cruising abilities and the feeling of doing 110mph in second gear ... after that, my sphincter would contract and I would sort of change gears and bring the revs down to below the red line ... lol It is a matter of personal choice as has been said before. My favourite bike was a 1200 Suzuki Bandit. Not fast, but very stable and reliable. Which is what you want if you are going for a trip. Loaded up with all your belongings and prepped, it took me 5000 miles around Europe before I had to even look at the back tyre. But bikes, what ever flavour - ROCK |

so in otherwords their empire was getting challenged and it had nothing to do with religion at all or at least wasn't the main point of why Spain wanted to conquer England with its navy at the time. Well, thats what BRITISH history tells us. I would be interested in seeing the Spanish side of the story. I think in that time, it was all about expansion. Europeans were getting pretty equal in terms of navies and armies, so they started looking for trading opportunities. Dont forget also that the Portuguese were pretty dominant too. What with Magellan and his strait, and the Jesuits in Asia, the whole of the Catholic religious south was expanding at a phenomenal rate. It always has been the same with us Euros - who can make the most money .... |

But if you want to talk radical islam, then Im happy to do so, as long as the rejoinders about the comparisons with christianity wont spark a heated row. If it's a fair comparison, then I will have no complaints, but I rarely see a fair comparison. ... and thats the whole point. You rarely see a fair comparison, because you are so "into" your religion, whereas I look at all religions in the same way. You are a non-believer as well as me, its just I believe in one less religion than you. |

I didn't try Islam. I don't have time to try every religion, do you? How much time have you given Hinduism? How about Sikhism? How about Zoroastorism? It's a strange question to ask "How long did you give Islam a try for?", very strange. Agreed, you dont have time to try every religion. You said you had tried other religions - Christianity is the last religion you have tried (your current one), what was the one before? (I was guessing at Islam as it is the 2nd largest) Mormonism, Kabblah and some New age beliefs. What's the relevance? ... and why should I give time to any of the other three, when I dont believe in the biggest four? Those were rhetorical questions, used to point out the fallacy of your question. But they didnt point out the fallacy of my question ... Because you know I havent tried any religion. I have read the bible, the qu'ran, the torah and asked questions of buddhism, but none of them I took to heart. My question was there to see what path you had taken when examining your faith. Two of the three you mentioned have abrahamic roots. One is even classed as christian. |

I was answering your question "Why?". I get seven years from the period of the tribulation. Oh, ok ... got it. Thanks. Generalizations are dangerous, that is exactly what will bring down so much hate onto Christians. A couple idiots bomb abortion clinics and Christians are still carrying that insult around. It's hard to talk about the dangers of Radical Islam without someone bringing up abortion clinic bombers. By generalizing a couple nut jobs who committed actions which are clearly against Christianity, all Christians are made to look like bad guys. Its difficult to bring up the dangers of radical religion - period. The only place to do that would be in the company of non-believers. We are all against the loss of sentient human life in the name of religion (I hope) I look at the people around me and three years ago, here, where I live, a bomb exploded about half a mile away. People still remember. The death toll was in its 30s. The targets - the holidaying Israelis. The majority of the dead were Egyptians. Then Europeans, then one Israeli. So violent actions are unjustifiable in any course, but particularly disgusting in the name of religion. Its a throw away light, fluffy comment, but its all about who has the biggest imaginary friend. But if you want to talk radical islam, then Im happy to do so, as long as the rejoinders about the comparisons with christianity wont spark a heated row. |

This forum isn't a city, there are people here to agree with me, people who are neutral to me and people who don't like me so much. I'm not in physical danger. Some people have said that got something from my posts. I don't see anything wrong with posting in a forum where some people don't like you. Again .. its all about you ... I debate as vociferously as you do (using my own methods) but I dont dislike you. How could I? all I have is evidence on a board. You could be a 65 year old Vietnamese transexual war veteran for all I know. There is nothing wrong with posting in a forum where some dont like you, but its not all black and white |
