Great, I ruined Star Wars in my early years, but turned out pretty bad ass mid way through life.

Well I am not going to get caught up in the previous threads but I did want to say that I played in High School and if I could find an adult group I wouldn't mind playing a few weekends a month. It was great for using imagination and having a good time with friends. I would say it was more of a social thing and it does require a bit of intellect to play. And for those playing still... I have the Players Handbook 3.5 and I will state for the record that 2nd Ed was much better. Please tell TSR that this is a game for fun not an exercise in numbers and rules and utter BS. One can only hope 4 is better than 3.5 GEEZE

hmmm...did pnp from grade four up until i split with my ex-husband. played a couple of times with some decent folks after that...

now, i just don't have the time. neither does anyone else that i know...hard to get a decent sized group together that's available on the same night with some type of regularity.

now...neverwinter nights.

Don't feel bad Z. I used to play. These days I can't seem to find a local group to hang with.

I have most of the online ones that aren't MMORPG. Baldur's Gate I & II, Icewind Dale I & II, and both Neverwinter Nights. I also have some old school ones like Ravenloft I & II and Menzoberanzen.

And just so you know, most of the online versions are based off of books. If some of you haters picked one up once in awhile you might know this.

Ok here something funny i still play I been trying to get a group together for about three months now, I would love to find some more people that play. I find it to be a good release, if your angry or frustrated at life.

I still play every Sunday evening. Same group of guys for 6+ years now. Ranging in age from 40 to 28. The second you stop "playing kids games" is the moment you get "old."

BTW, until recently none of us were single.

Yeah, I play... Sorta. Just finished up our first campaign and now we're trying BESM for a while (though that campaign was put on hold over winter break).

No idea which fourm this should go under, guessing this is the most suited, but just wondering who still plays D&D.

I will play and have played videogames based on D&D but will not play the real/original way...lol

I'm 45, have traveled all over the world, been married, had 2 kids (who live with me), divorced, have a demanding job, and I still play (started with Chainmail). When I first began playing D&D, there wasn't even a DM's shield with the game...You had to buy one from Judges Guild. After introducing 2 generations of kids to the game, I am now working with a 3rd (my own sons).

I have watched D&D turn young disillusioned, bored, unmotivated, academic underachievers, well on their way to reform school, into young men & women with a firm grasp of physics, chemistry, advanced mathematics, language, history, culture & religion, not to mention giving them a huge boost in confidence, improved diction & better overall social skills. I know this because I saw the effects personally, and I was one of those kids when I first started.

Few things make me really angry, but the day Pat Robertson (on the 700 Club), held up the DM's Guide and said it was the work of Satan, I almost blew a gasket. What an idiot.

So, ZStarWind, ignore the hecklers...They're just showing their pack mentality.

Why everyone laughs is puzzling to me. Old school D&D took intelligence and imagination. It was from a time when computers didn't do the visuals or thinking for you. And about being single...some of the most beautiful and intelligent women played just as long and hard as the guys...

I miss my days as a DM...

I just ignore the people who joke about gamers, because I have seen a wide variety of gamers in my life, many of them very successful. Everybody who games has met that really skilled and sneaky GM who keeps you on your toes and forces you to think creatively and act decisively. Those are skills that can give you an advantage in real life that others might have never had the chance to develop.

Here's a great gamer anthem, check it out:

what they heck, I'll chime in..happy

Love D&D, love RPG's in general in all types of mediums such tabletop, computer, and console. Lot's of fun, provides a creative outlet, and plenty of social interaction.

I'm not going to deny that a certain stereotype of the gamer-geek does exist (because they do) but the stereotype is not the yardstick by which the entire community should be measured.grumble

We aren't Satan worshipers.

A LOT of us have g/f's and/or are happily married with spouses that enjoy the hobby. I was married to a gamer-girl for many years, but even though our marriage did not work we still play together because we are still friends and we love the hobby. happy
