Topic: Is love measuresble? | |
---|---|
Here is a question for you, imagine yourself in this situation.
You, your wife and only child are on holiday, there is an accident while taking a sailing trip together and your wife and child fall in to the water very close to a waterfall and neither of them can swim. You are a very strong swimmer but immediately realise there is only time to save one of them, which one do you save? Socrates gave a seemingly convincing answer to this old question. |

What is your answer? I don't think Socrates is a member. |

My answer is the same as the ancient Greek philosopher's, search for it on the web. |

Love is an emotion that can be difficult to measure because it's experienced differently by everyone and can't be seen or touched. However, some say that love can be measured by actions, such as doing small things for someone you love, or standing up for them.

Socrates gave a seemingly convincing answer to this old question. In such a heartbreaking scenario, my instinct would be to save my child first, as their young age and vulnerability would likely make them more at risk in the water. However, I would also consider the possibility of quickly rescuing my wife and then returning for our child if time allows. Ultimately, the decision would be made in the heat of the moment, with the goal of saving as many lives as possible. |

This is a very improbable event, and your answer is correct in my opinion you would do your upmost to save both in this situation. However, I would rescue my wife first. I believe their are different kinds of love and consequently different strengths of love in my opinion, therefore it is capable of being quantified in my opinion, and this in my answer to the OP. This is only my belief. Thanks for your reply to a seemingly impossible question. |

hi in my experience measuring love and feeling its not our control .it will come up. Exactly my point dear . |

Love is lighter than air and more fragile than a bubble 🫧

Just let me go find my tape measure
|

The most important aspect of measures is not the particular numerical values, but the fact that measures can be compared/ordered.
So qualities such as beauty, deliciousness, difficulty, love ... have measures. |
|
|
|
Farid it is difficult to compare measures that are subjective or involve psychosocial /emotional aspects of being . Our approach to beauty .. deliciousness etc is subjective and therefore difficult to apply a standard measure to .. not to say they can’t be measured .. just that the measurement itself will be subjective .

|
|
|
i agree with Blondey .... love is measurable... she found her tape measure and is an expert at using it !!

Sure "Blondey", it's still a measure even if it's subjective. |

You are a very strong swimmer but immediately realise there is only time to save one of them, which one do you save? You are on a sailboat, thus you have a life preserver ring and rope. Throw that to save your wife and swim to save your child |
