What about the ship that crashed in to the baltimore bridge early this morning (GMT)

Wow, I would have thought the ship would have taken more damage, but instead the bridge just collapsed...

The emergency services were searching for survivors when I had to leave for work (I start work at 9am now instead of 12pm) so missed a lot of it...

Thats a huge and fully loaded cargo ship VS some steel and concrete. That pillar would snap 100 out 100 time.

2 people were rescued and 6 presumed dead as of am hour ago.

I hear ya Ron, I never knew that about bridges and I guess you're absolutely right too... 100 out of 100 times, the bridge will come off worse from the ship vs bridge...

Oh dear it's sad to hear that 6 are presumed dead, there were workmen filling in pot holes on the bridge (so it said on the news) I guess they must be the ones still missing...

They found 2 alive and haven't found the other 6. N
But some heads are going to roll here soon. Transit police got the warning and was able to stop traffic from entering the bridge but no one warned the construction crew and no one from the police checked to see if the bridge was clear

Yes I seen that on tv they found 2 this morning and looking for other survivors.
President came on tv and said the government will pay for all the damages to rebuilt.

And the reporters were questioning him and he ran off out of the room in the capitol.
He stated, he will get the Congress on it right away for money needed.
They were say the Shipping company be responsible if the Cargo ship was in fault.

He didn't run. It wasn't a press conference to get on TV or make a campaign speech. It was anout the incident and not himself and he realized that.

Not every president uses a tragedy to make themselves look good or just to be on TV.

I clmend him for not making it anout himself

Right he couldn't run but he moved fast.

I know it was not a press conference !

He is good at avoiding questions.

Yeah people tend to forget that most presidents don't turn everything into something to bask in the spotlight. He said his piece and then he left like a good leader should. It was no billed as a press conference but a statement. I watched it live.

Also he never once said the government would pay for a new bridge, just the.promise of support from any needed government agencies as he should have.

A good leader doesn't turn a tragedy into glade handing or a campaign speech or into fund raising. They make a statement and that it.

I watched his short speech so I know what he said, reading the Monitor poorly as usual.

I watched it too and I didn't hear him mention that the government will cover those cost. Some will be covered just like in any disaster but not the entire cost. Besides congress would have to approve it in a new infrastructure package.

Biden can't win with someone people. He answers no questions even though it isn't a press conference so he has something to hide or doesn't care. But if he would have answered questions people would be saying he was showboating.

Also of you look there was no moniter. That's wasn't a prepared speech

to be clear, is be saying the same thing if it happened 3 years ago and Trump was president because the responses would be the exact same. This tragedy has nothing to do with the president, if the bridge was faulty and the government knew it then the State should have fixed it. Both the far left and the far right are both horrible representations of what our country has become. You are both equally to blame. the sad part is they are both the minorities but get all the press so the rest of the world thinks these as*hats represent the whole country.

Exactly. And the bridge was inspected last summer and passed with flying colors. It just couldn't take that much force on it

Such a tragedy for everyone, especially family and friends of those loosing their lives in this tragic accident. I feel sure we will all be very surprised at the speed in which the waterway is cleared and a new bridge is put in place, taking months and not years before it's operational.

Just to correct some mis-information posted on this thread. Biden absolutely said he want the government to cover all expenses to replace and clean up in the Bridge collapse. Some people hear what they want to hear instead of hearing what is actually said..

Exactly correct Robin. Some people blame the President every time they stub their toe..

Wether or not the tax payers ( the government) pays the bill on this one should be discussed after the investigation of what exactly happened. If it was the fault of the ship owner maybe they should cover some of the cost.. but regardless of that outcome many people will be out of a job till ships start moving thru that port again. I think their pay should continue some how..
