There might be exceptions, but for me "no answer" can be very rude.

Especially, if you apply for a new job or a wee promotion. Could people not have some manners and just send a few lines back? Otherwise, you are caught in a circle of unfulfilled hopes. Just my humble opinion.

Up until recently I was one of those who didn’t reply to messages (here) but have responded to some lately.

I think if people take the time to message you and I mean write something of substance and not just ‘hi’, it’s only courteous to write back and thank them even if it’s just to say no thank you. I have now changed my mind and it’s because the guys in question don’t take rejection well (no matter how politely I respond). They think they can make me change my mind about them when all it does is verify that I made the right choice in rejecting them. More often than not they are disrespectful of my preferences and culminates them getting blocked. Very few thank me for my response and wish me well. I’m not here to justify myself or argue with guys so I’ve once again decided to no longer reply to any messages I receive. Sometimes, it seems, being polite is not worth the hassle.

Replying to job applicants is a different story. When people sent me their CVs on spec I always took the time to respond. Even if there were no current positions available I always replied. That’s just good manners or maybe I’m just old school

Yes, it is rude. It's like being in the house and not answering the doorbell.

I just assume it's a no and go on about my business until I hear a yes.

I do that all the time. To me, it's rude of them to drop by unexpectedly. I feel no obligation to answer the door if I'm not expecting someone.

I have a note posted next to my doorbell.

"Any salesperson or religious group ringing this bell will be shot and eaten"

Mostly applied for job an done with interview.. a person gets a offer letter on the spot or if queues to we will inform you later.. Its means if no call in a week means no..
So wisely for job should reply

For promotion if conducted door by door then yes, should reply yes or not interested..

I'm going to have to disagree on the notion that a "no reply" is rude.

If I send an unsolicited message, it's not their responsibility to replay, in fact, if they're uninterested, I prefer they not, it's too awkward.

Dating and being single is tough on the self esteem, any time you feel angered or offended, take a look at self, it's what I do - simply put, it's not someone else's responsibility to coddle me.

Humm seems some have missed the point.. this has nothing to do with e-mails

When applying for a promotion or job change yes they should respond with saying at least we appreciate that you applied for the job, but at this time we have filled the position..

Please consider applying for the job in the future if/when it comes available.

It is considered being professional to reply to those that have applied for a job opening within the company specially if you already work there..

As I said, there is exceptions indeed, such as unsolicited/spam mail, because responding to them would just show the con artist, that there is an active e mail address.

But I was talking about companies, not responding to me, sending out my CV. After they advertise vacancies. And me even mentioning, that any reply or feedback will be appreciated.

thankfully i have passed the stage of applying for jobs etc etc ....
so all I can see myself doing is messaging, or texting , people who I find interesting or who I could have a personal interest in ...
I can only do what i can.... if they cant do what they can .... it's their business and I wont judge ....end if story !!!

Humm, well if it is a new company you have applied to, most do not reply to those that they feel do not fit the qualifications they request..

As one that is a Office Mgr and put ads in different areas of the net etc when the company is hiring..It is unreal how many apps we get that do not qualify. Or how many are ignored due to we hired all we needed within a few resumes we received..

Honestly we read all resume's up till we hire what we need. If they seem to have the qualifications we require, then we call them and ask them to come in for an interview..Those that do not qualify the specifics we have advertise we do not reply to them..

At times it is the luck of the draw..

But when it comes down to it just cause you got no response does not mean you should not apply again..

Ohh and as far as spam mail if a attachment is not sent to us in PDF we don't open it.. it is consider spam HTLM attachments many times are viruses.. And we regularly check the spam folder to make sure what is being sent there.. Most company's do check the spam folder..

I use to think it was rude not getting reply, until I had to select a new applicant from more than a hundred resume.

We might be miles apart, but to me it takes little or no effort, to send a few lines by e mail to applicants, who were not successful. In most cases, you just add the applicant's name and send the mail. Takes less than a minute.

I understand your point, but most of the time the person that is printing off the resumes and checking to see if they qualify has many more jobs to do .

And to be honest many resumes are not even looked at once the company has hired what they need.. So the other resumes are ignored..

Yeah, but on the other hand, every applicant puts some effort into his application. That's why I think, that even unsuccessful applicants deserve an answer.

One minute times 300 applications turns into 300 minutes. For some of the more popular positions, it can be even more applicants applying for that position. That's a lot of time to spend trying to be polite.

I understand what you're saying, and yes, it would be nice. But sometimes it's just not practical or productive to respond to everyone.
