I probably prefer Billy Joel but only because I saw him in concert with my first ever date and his music has more memories to me.

I like them, but I will always be Billy Joel. He trained as a Classical musician but he brought that to rock music.

Both express themselves with energy and heart. I don't prefer one over the other.

Billy Joel. He's a fellow Long Islander. He might be slightly more derivative than Elton John, but I like his work better as a whole. However, Elton John did record my favorite song from either.
