Oh yeah, I've heard him. (Glass Houses)
Sends me back to Loverboy days.
Reminds me of music the cheerleaders listened to.
Not really the kind of music I normally listen to.
Not really hearing a lot of keyboard/piano focus.
Its more of a yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah fake smile music to me.
I'll stick with Elton John.

The Stranger will always be my favorite Billy Joel album. A lot of his early stuff was personal to us here on Long Island. The Stranger was when we all said, wow, this guy is a breakout superstar.

There are people who don't know Billy Joel? He held the title for a male with the most hit songs on the charts. Garth Brooks passed that, and he did that recording a Billy Joel song.

I haven't paid attention to music 'charts' since I turned 9.
As a teen I listened to hard rock "Disco Destroyer" channels and when I was working I listened to the blues on community radio.
Now I don't listen to radio at all.

Much of my youth was heavy metal/hard rock played very loud.

Some of the Billy Joel songs I have heard but didn't like enough to even try to find out who it was.
Now older, I have a 'listening ear' and tune to the instruments mostly. To me, the words of a song are less important unless they align with the instrument sounds.

Top or trending music seldomly appeals to me. Hip/Hop strikes me as shallow but I like a lot of Soul. I like Motown 60s and early 70s music. I can tolerate 50's music but its not a preference.

A lot of Billy Joel music reminds me of teeny bopper music. Its no wonder I can't associate the name. Elton John music mainly reminds me of adult music by comparison. But, I don't like a lot of Elton John songs either.

For the last 20 years or more, I've been listening to what I call 'selective music". Meaning I listen to the music I want to hear when I want to hear it.

According to other people I've met, I have great taste in music. I even get asked by strangers who is the band that's playing when I am in my truck. Mt gf listened to radio hits when I met her but has gotten a bunch of different music from me she never heard but really likes.

Like I said earlier, I like a few Billy Joel songs now (thanx geezer). I'm not set in stone about music.
Rap is not music so it doesn't count at all.
Rap makes me angry and I find it hostile and irritating.
I can't tolerate opera either but I like some opera metal.
I don't like much death metal anymore either.
My tastes have moved to easier listening and mellower music but I still rock out every once in a while.
Classical music I often find boring but tolerable.
I prefer instrumentals over vocals most of the time.
I like psy-goa trance and ambient trance for trance music. I can tolerate some dance trance but it gets old fast for me.
I prefer long songs over short ones.
I prefer mix selections over albums.
I like most any instrument played with mastery.
I remember the instrumental solo parts of songs before I learn the words to a song.
I set my sound system to less bass and higher treble.
I like music loud so it hits my body.
I can dance to nearly any tune.
I dream music in surround.
I can 'dance' without music, using memory and stay in rhythm.
In my youth I played acoustic guitar and drums.
I can create a tune on a keyboard.
I've had no musical lessons, ever.

Music has been part of my life since before I was born. My dad had a huge record collection and I have a huge mp3 collection. My dad organised and detailed his collection and I organise and detail mine.
Music is a bigger part of me than movies and I have a lot of movies.

So yes, I am not familiar with Billy Joel but most people are not familiar with most of the music I like.
I'm an oddball and proud of it.

This has been interesting. Is it kind of equal Elton John and Billy Joel? I will always be Joel. I'm always liking his melodies and lyrics and singing.

I've never really cared for Elton John's style.
Seriously, Linus from The Peanuts, was a better
pianist.

Billy Joel was okay, right up to Nylon Curtain.

My biggest question about Joel's entire music catalog...
Is, why, for a song called 'Piano Man'...
Why does the guy with the harmonica never shut up?
I mean, the song isn't called 'Harmonica Man'.
