I have been going to the same bank for 20 years and they know me. Maybe it is extra protection.

Yes, I get that too...
Never when I pay bills, only when I'm taking out cash |
|
|
|
Are all banks doing this now?

It's typical policy wonk stuff. Some guy in corporate sees that a few bad checks have been cashed and therefore decrees a policy of all check cashers have their IDs checked.

I don't write checks.

I kinda like that my bank checks up on m from time to time.
It tell me my money is iomportant to them and my security is foremost on their mind. I would be wary if they didn't check on me. |

Same here. Most banks ask for photo ID when you withdraw money, at least when it is a larger amount of money

Amazed to read that you still go to banks, and use checks too to be honest.
Last time I had checks was over 20 yrs ago, around 1998. They were done away with in 2002. Banks have begun to disappear not much later. They only have a head quarters somewhere, but you cannot go there to withdraw money. You do that from ATMs. Or you just pay by pin, which most people do everywhere. Bills are paid online. We all have a pin pass with an Identifier that gives a 4 digit code when you put your pass in it. You enter that code online. Of late you also have to scan a colour code thingie with dots on your monitor with your Identifier as extra security measure. Then you get to your bank account. This has been in use since 2002. Youngsters -including my close to 30 yr old kids- don't even know anymore about going to a bank, hihi. All they ever had since they were approx. 13 was a pin pass. . . . |

I prefer to in person banking. I like people and there is a physical transaction of the event. No "computer glitches" can be involved, as I'm there in real time. Cheques are also a convenient method of payment for the payer - maybe not so much as the payee, but not my problem. They can go out and interact with the world. I wouldn't be disappointed if I got a cheque, I go to the bank anyway. Sometimes convenience looks more like laziness. Kinda like looking for a job. I would sooner hire someone with the same qualifications who came in and handed in their resume, than someone who emailed one. But that's just me. I feel, I would rather have less convenience for stronger security. Whether it be "glitches" or some egghead hacking your account. Or just the vulnerability of having to look over your shoulder to make sure nobody is watching you put in your passwords, or forgetting your password and having to deal that bullshlt. |

Has your bank ever asked to see your driver's license? Two times in the last four months my bank has wanted to see my drivers license card. That has never happened before. What does it mean? Undoubtedly it has to do with security Cat and they want to see your photo on your drivers license to make sure it is you who is making the transaction but if you really want to know why, then if it happens again just ask them point blank why they are asking for your drivers license. It is your account and your money so you have every right to know why they are asking for it. |

Has your bank ever asked to see your driver's license?
I've gone to pretty much all online banking at this point. Every (issuing) bank where I've cashed a check or money order, though, has asked to see I.D. before they'd give me cash. I've even been asked for I.D. when exchanging rolled coins for paper money. Two times in the last four months my bank has wanted to see my drivers license card. That has never happened before. What does it mean?
Could mean a lot of things. - your bank was bought out, and the parent bank has new policy and procedure guidelines that all tellers are supposed to follow, like asking for i.d. on any transaction of withdrawal. Kind of like in some retail stores where the pin pad doesn't ask for your pin number (when using your debit card) if the transaction is less than 20 bucks or you aren't asking for money back, but if you want to "take money out" or it's a big enough transaction, then they ask for your pin # "i.d." - they've had instances of fraud where someone comes in and is mistaken for a "regular" and had their accounts cleared out. (e.g. twin, sibling, son or daughter). So they've instituted an "everyone!" policy of checking if you're really you. Like a CYA. Kind of like using a credit card at the gas pump, when they ask for the billing zip code/cvv. That's not really for "your" protection, it's for the gas stations protection. If your card is reported stolen or as a fraud transaction, and they asked for your zip code/cvv, then the credit card company eats the cost. Not the gas station, as they followed the TOS for the credit card company. They made a "best reasonable effort" to avoid fraud. - New tellers come in with training from other banks or institutions that they implement. - may be updating or collecting information. Do they just look at your i.d.? Do they enter in information? Do they ask you to swipe it through the pin pad? - if they're opposite sex they may be interested in you. They may be trying to extend the conversation. Kind of like when young cashiers ask older people buying alcohol or cigarettes for their i.d. - they may be terrible employees, the bank doesn't train them that well, or they're new, so they're doing what they think they're supposed to or want to. Maybe the bank has a policy regarding "regulars" and not requiring id all the time, but the "bad" employee doesn't really remember you. Or they just stuck them out there after watching a couple of videos and a couple of online training exercises, or they forgot their training and can't remember if they're supposed to i.d. or not. - could be a vast government conspiracy where the treasury and fed are involved in getting people used to the idea of being asked for their "papers" now so when they start roving patrols of secret police asking for vaccination papers it's complied with. How far down the rabbit hole of "what does it mean" do you want to go? |

Back in Jersey City I only needed to have my bank book to deposit or withdraw money. One job I had I just gave my pay check to the company owned bank for them to cash it. All other places I had to show ID to get cash but not deposit.
I use cash and checks because it's easier to keep track of my funds. It's also somewhat safer for me since my bank knows that. The banks are trying to go digital currency which means they can **** with the money easier. They can also freexe or take your money for "wrong think" too. The "word" is to move your money into your local bank or saving and loan. The large banks are going to start ****ing with peoples accounts because of the Fed. Socialist are corrupting's the National banking system to force people through monetary means to obey. Which is Fascism tactics. Fascism is the alt-right and communisms is the Left of socialism, if you don't know. |

That sounds like the most logical explanation. |

When I go I think they have asked for my driver's license. I would think it is to make sure it is me taking out my money and not someone perhaps pretending to be me (fraud).

Yes when taking money out of my account. It's ok . I want to make sure they know it's Me taking my Money out. |

I never worried about showing my ID to my credit union. They're only protecting you. I get the same treatment writing checks most anywhere I do business with. Most cashiers that ask, I start giving them my licence number as I fish out my drivers licence, I've memorized it. A few flip out because I can.
