I remember being 5 and we started every school morning saying 'The Lord's Prayer'. I never understood it, but it made me aware God exists.
Then we had a Reverend/Pastor/Minister speak to us on the school's intercom every Friday. He engaged us all, you could hear a pin drop with his talking to us. I am very grateful, because God's word has definitely given me hope and taught me there is much more to this world than what is before our eyes. I think it gives children a choice. Yet, equality in religion is becoming big now. So I understand why a Jewish or Muslim or Pagan or etc would not want a different religion forced on their children. It really is a huge subject Coldersky |

No, not really
I do miss the hymns though Not really because I'm into hymns or religion I just like music, and singing I thought it was a nice way to start the day, sort of wake you up. But most people didn't like it, and just mumbled along |

Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. [John 14:30, Christ talking] Hereafter (crucifixion) I will not talk much with you for the prince of this world (Satan) cometh, and hath nothing in me. We should not be praying for this world because the earth and the world, were given to the wicked [Job 9:24] the earth was given into the hand of the wicked. God also has humor, asking who we think he gave the world too;). The spiritual demon Satan and his earthly workers of iniquity are the rulers of this world. (see Jonn 14:30 again). We may question why God did that. Destruction was at it's height when the Romans captured Jerusalem in 70 AD after they had conquered the Greece. Before that Alexander the Great had conquered the world, reigned for 12 years, fell ill and died. In 1050 AD the Crusaders and Muslims were in battle for Jerusalem and finally in 1948 Jerusalem was given by the leagues of Nations (US and Britten) to the gentiles. Then the battle continued in the 60ties and is still been fought, for the heathens love that land, because it's God's land. To recap, don't love the world, nor pray for it. Do what God says and pray for your own salvation. This wicked world, as the worlds before it, are destined for destruction. [Ephesians 6:14] Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with TRUTH, and having on the breastplate of righteousness (the commandments). |

I did not think the parochial schools had stopped prayers...for non-parochial schools, no, I nor my children miss the former imposition/requirement... Regarding the world situation, I would like to see a significant reduction in hypocrisy...and intolerance... |

Our endoctrination was into patriotism instead of religion. However, I do wish kids had as much self reflect time to meditate, pray, whatever, as they do political time to learn which 'side' to take with political and social issues. |

I never missed either the morning prayer or the morning pledge, after they were discontinued.
Frankly, I was a kid. They didn't mean anything to me, other than one more thing that adults expected me to memorize by rote, and chatter mindlessly back again. No one ever followed up during the school day, and told any of us what those things were about. I would oppose bringing them back, for some fairly obvious reasons. The prayers, because it's against the First Amendment to require ANY religious behaviors of students in public schools. It's not a matter of upsetting people, it's a matter of not requiring the schools to train American children to ignore the Constitution, for me. I'm opposed to bringing back the Pledge, because I now think it's basically anti-American to require pledges and pins and flags and so on. It would be far more meaningful ,if as a part of transitioning from childhood to adult, people said the Pledge as a sort of official recognition that they personally were now in charge of being a citizen. But since my experience overall, has been very consistent, that when you require something of everyone all the time, they come to resent it, and not to celebrate it. I don't support encouraging American children to come to resent patriotism, by forcing it on them to please adults somewhere. |

Never had prayer in 'school'.
I do miss the morning 'Pledge of Allegiance' to my country tho. There were 'moments of quiet meditation' when someone died. Many chose to pray during that time. |

Colinbine school out west and some of the other schools that kids and teachers and staff were killed people the anger the bullying and copycats are alive and out here as I speak it's not cool prayers work Coldersky It breaks my heart to read your pain and concerns. But If prayers did work, the world would have been a better place and all would rejoice. But it is in the hand of the LORD, and Gods promises are not slack. This world must come to an end and his judgement is upon the Wicked. There is a purpose behind these killings and you must trust in the LORD and do His WILL. We reap what we sow and it will get worse! Watch the flooding, the hurricanes, the storm, mass shooting and killing, the deathly viruses, locusts, Ice, opiod, sand storms, wild fires etc. All at one time. The plagues of ancient Egypt are upon Babylon the Great and His adversaries. [John 9:31] Now we know that God heareth not sinners... |

I'm pretty sure one of the reasons they did away with prayer in school (WE never had that...maybe it was a southern thing?) is because they wouldn't respect/ allow prayers from religions other that white Christianity..
No Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, Native American.....none of those were allowed, even thought there were students who followed those religions in the class... It wasn't fair to have ONE religions prayer...and not others.. |

Well dear lady. Imagine you go to a bookstore and sees a book with the title "Holy Bible on the cover of the book". You take the book from the shelf, turn the pages rapidly reading short sections at random. Your goal is to find out what the theme of the book is. Maybe you didn't go to the bookstore but your parents were Catholic, like my parents were, and they educated you in Christianity, or you were sent to a Catholic school to learn about God, Christ and the beautiful half naked angels, and even the Apostles and how Judas betrayed Christ, and the Crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. Beautiful stories mixing good and bad in one pottage, under one umbrella, for your learning and praying. In this 2nd case you didn't turn the pages of the Holy Book to discover it's theme or what it is about, because the contents were brought to you by Holy men and Women much greater than you, whom you looked up to. Having learned that much as a young girl, and becoming an adult and even a mother. Would you today be brave enough to question what you have learned as a teenager? Most certainly NOT and why should you! There is only ONE prayer in the Holy Bible from Christ himself, given to him by the Father, as is always the case. [Matthew 6:9] This ONE prayer was meant to make sure, that the purpose of God (not praying in general) would be established FOREVER meaning until Christ returns; namely the Authority of the Heavenly Father and their purpose on the earth and what to look for. Now, if your soul really, really needs a challenge, then ask yourself this question: Was I taught the true Gospel? Then if you dare, research what the bible is about, it's theme, and compare it with the Gospel. That's really heavy, because your world (belief system) could crumble and be turned upside down. Sometimes we must play save and stick to what we know. It's for you to decide, what the truth can do for you. [Hebrews 4:12] For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Simply put ..the Holy Book can and will cut the unprepared into pieces, and leave their souls and thoughts, wounded FOREVER. |

I miss when objective/cultural/family standards were not railed against in favor of so called 'individualism'.

Shame on you...what a condescending thing for you to assume that I've never read the Bible I HAVE read the Bible, cover to cover..several versions (NIV, NAS, King James) Own three. I don;t need someone to TEACH me the Bible/ Gospel..I am capable of reading it on my own. So, using your logic...ANY church that puts Bible verses in their program (the thing you get every Sunday at many churches), or in their sermon is suspect, then? Because THEY could twist various verse to suit their particular theology..be it Baptist, Methodist, Presbytarian, Four Square Gospel, Pentacostal (all of which I have attended at various times)...whatever. You need to check your judgeyness...Matthew 7 comes to mind... |

Dose anyone miss prayer in school? Of course not. Simply understanding the point of separation of church and state holds the answer to protecting all religions. Thing about prayer is, it can be done anywhere and at any time and does not require approbation. |
