When it is extremely cold, people are advised to bring their Pets inside, out of the Cold. There is a law here that says if you are found neglecting your pet you can be fined and jailed.
A man today was arrested for leaving his Dog outside Tuesday night all night.

Husky or Malamute came to mind and I just didn't post earlier. Some species are far more tolerant to the cold than others, Chihuahua sure, they do not handle the cold well.

How cold, it wasn't mentioned, another reason I didn't post earlier.

I am happy there are people, who look out for Animals. Unfortunately, there are people who don't. have or like dogs or cats.

They both can be a loving part of a family. :heartbeat:

My fur babies are inside pets. They are a bit spoiled I'm afraid. I don't think it matters the breed don't leave your fur babies in the cold.

I've two kittens that were brought to me now 4 weeks. I've had the best time tending to them. They are fun and my dogs love them.

"Cold Weather
Siberian huskies are bred to be resilient, and they can withstand temperatures as cold as -60 degrees F (-51 degrees C). Sled dogs often live outdoors in barns or insulated dog houses."

Not to say I would leave my dogs out in those temps.

Edit: Still no clue on species.

When i had Huskies and Malamutes, I did feel bad and brought them insode..
They couldn't *wait* to get back outside..

Their doghouses were on a wooden platform (not on the bare ground), they were in a sort of 3-sided shed (so they could lay on the dry ground during rainy days) ,and their dog houses were stuffed with straw..
They seemed quite happy...

Of course, short haired, and small dogs don't need to be left outsiode in cold weather..
Bubba Redneck up the road from me has 2 pit bulls...he has left them outside the past two days while he is at work (as he normally does)...I've seen them on the porch a few times..
I guess they lay under the porch, or something..he has a space fenced off for them...

Huskys enjoy winter like most humans enjoy the spring.

My sister's huskies would rather be inside dragging their blankets around watching cartoons

My cats are my family. I would never neglect them, in any weather.

We have a county law that an animal outside has to have a house/good shelter, water all the time, and not be on a heavy thick chain or short leash. If I could save every dog and cat I would. Instead I call the sheriff. People get a warning first time, unless its really cold like now...then they get a ticket. People can speak up, animals cant.

The way I look at it if you can not provide proper food and shelter for your animals then you don't need to have any.. Regardless if they are house pets or ones that stay in a barn.......

Pet laws are suppose to go in effect across all 50 states soon....

But even tho we have them you call they come out and give most a warning not much more... So laws are only as good if they enforce them...

I had a cat that loved to build tunnels in the snow and stay out for hours, he always had the option to come inside whenever, but he loved being out in the snow. He was very well cared for never neglected, but he loved playing in the snow.

The animal shelter in my town gives out feral cats, also known as "barn cats". They are spayed or neutered. They are half wild so they are not house pets. When you adopt them, you have to provide some kind of shelter (barn or shed), and always have food and water for them year round. The cats help with rodent control but the point is that the animal control does not like killing cats and they promote spay/neuter.
