I'm thinking i never realized tge phrase went belly up might have originated with someone who knew about fish. The realization came while watching the fish in the lobby aquarium.

you mean you NEVER had to have a porcelain funeral in your house??? How could you flush those poor little things down the toilet? My sisters fish died, she didn't want to flush it, so buried it in the yard... kind of silly with 15 cats roaming around the neighborhood

We had a little service for my son's gerbil. Buried in the back yard.

He was 13, had a play cage for it. He was playing with it outside the cage and it ran under his bedroom door. I felt so sorry for him. One word: cat

My fish got sick so I flushed them, as soon as they hit the bowl water they died. It was a mercy killing.

I had a lovely saltwater aquarium in Kuwait - the exotic fish were very cheap. When we transferred, I just gave them back to the store.

Mine was freshwater. I saltwater is too difficult and expensive here.
