Topic: Should We Follow the Majority? | |
---|---|
Whenever we challenge the mainstream teaching on some doctrine, we always tent to get a number of people staying. ....."Well, this has the belief of the majority for centuries, so it must be right. I'm not going to go along with just a few who believe differently. It's the majority have the truth. "
So I thought let's look in the Bible and see if this statement is correct or not. |

you should never follow the majority, what if they are wrong in there way of thinking. Always obey the bible and do what you know deep in your heart is right.

I have left a few churches because they were so stuck in traditions they couldn't get that the Bible said something different. Traditions are ok as long as you remember they are tradition and not from the Bible. Some traditions start for practical reasons, some for selfish reasons. Does not make them right or wrong unless it is discovered they go against the Bible.

As Christians, I believe we are to follow the example and majority of one, Jesus Christ. He set the example of 'right living' that we should be following. the world and the majority follow a different example of self gratification. |

I have never my self found a Church I agree with 100 %. But does that matter? I follow the saying, "In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity". Not sure who originally said that.
Many of the things early Christians disagreed on, we still argue about today. One such example can be found here , in Scripture : Galatians 2:11-14 Amplified Bible (AMP) Peter (Cephas) Opposed by Paul 11 Now when Cephas (Peter) came to Antioch, I opposed him face to face [about his conduct there], because he stood condemned [by his own actions]. 12 Before certain men came from James, he used to eat [his meals] with the Gentiles; but when the men [from Jerusalem] arrived, he began to withdraw and separate himself [from the Gentile believers], because he was afraid of those from the [a]circumcision. 13 The rest of the Jews joined him in this hypocrisy [ignoring their knowledge that Jewish and Gentile Christians were united, under the new covenant, into one faith], with the result that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they were not being straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I told Cephas (Peter) in front of everyone, “If you, being a Jew, live [as you have been living] like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how is it that you are [now virtually] forcing the Gentiles to live like Jews [if they want to eat with you]?” But by and large, on the essentials? I really do find that the early Church Fathers did a pretty good job on interpreting Scripture, in regards to lets say the Trinity . |

dunrich, while I agree with you that I have not found a church I 100% agree with, I try to see if they are doing their best to follow the Bible and not tradition. So many churches are so stuck on traditions they have forgotten what the Bible says we are to do.

As Christians, we have to stop thinking in terms of hundreds of years and begin to think in terms of thousands of years. Jesus came 2000 years ago. But church traditions are mostly a few hundreds of years old. Christianity doesn't begin or end with King James, the bisexual king. CLV Matt 7:13 "Enter through the cramped gate, for broad is the gate and spacious is the way which is leading away into destruction, and many are those entering through it. |

No we shouldn't. What percentage of people read the bible everyday? Many Christians think once they get saved that's it. But the truth is we must not just read God's word but do God's will.

the general teachings of the populous are based upon idealisms not even found within the scriptures.
there is no such word as trinity found in any of the 66 Books, nor the Books like Enoch, Thomas, Gospel of Peter, etc. but yet, the majority of today's labelled Christian follow this word. the original Matthew 28:19 states Yeshua [Christ] said to baptize in His NAME like Peter [preached on day of Pentecost in Acts 2:38 here the Catholic Encyclopedia admits they did change the Bible and Baptismal formula in 2nd Century A.D. The baptismal formula was changed from the name of Jesus Christ to the words Father, Son & Holy Ghost by the Catholic Church in the Second Century. – 11th Edit., Vol. 3, ppg. 365-366. so the entire premises of being baptized in the trinity is wrong according to God. and yet, the majority of those calling themselves Christians believe that the trinity is a fact!! so no, we should not follow the majority!! |

Concerning majority opinion one could pull out a saying from
Churchill that would hit a spot and the same time poke a bit to democracy, and here it goes: The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. - Winston Churchill |

My brother and sister this is the truth church. The 100% church you are searching for. Read Revelation 12:17 and 14:12. And don't forget John 10:1-17. Neither Matthew 25:31-46. See if you have all those qualities. And if you have it, teached others so they can see the truth.

yet then people were baptized in moses days, crossing the sea. some died why? Cause of their actions.
On the cross with Jesus a thief said to jesus forgive me. With his mouth. the thief was not baptize in water, so clearly the mouth and actions has a sting, it can hate or heal. which are we? but actions and mouth together is powerful it shows people around us what we love. james 2) 6 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. |

yet then people were baptized in moses days, crossing the sea. some died why? Cause of their actions. [Quote ] No one of them has died when they have crossing the sea. Only pharaohs soldiers. On the cross with Jesus a thief said to jesus forgive me. With his mouth. the thief was not baptize in water,[quote ] Jesus the life is still there with him. The true baptism begin with the Holy Spirit. Read acts 2 so clearly the mouth and actions has a sting, it can hate or heal. which are we? but actions and mouth together is powerful it shows people around us what we love. james 2) 6 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. |

Matthew 7:13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
The 'majority' will be misled by self gratification, heartlessness, and ego ... IMHO following Christ is the way that far fewer will concede to do ... so we probably should not follow the Majority down the path they are taking ... |

Humm I was taught never to follow the majority...
We were taught there is only One that you should follow if it be that others are following the same God their will be masses but you are only actually following One~~~~~~~ Not all might agree what the Bible says, but if in fact you do follow God is that not what the Bible was meant to do? Not here to argue who is right or wrong just stating my thoughts~~ |
