history is important in teaching us the potential for human beings to create and destroy

it is important in teaching us the struggles and sacrifices made by others to get us to this point

I would never want it erased.

Unfortunately, you can't delete history, well, it would take about 100 years. you'd have to firstly get rid of any evidence, statues etc, then destroy any literature, film etc and then stop teaching it completely lastly, you'd have to ban people from talking about it and spreading it. The last object is the mind. Once the people who remember history have gone then it will be totally erased!

Dam, I'd forgotten about those guys! But he's not white how's that gonna work? rofl

EyeAmYourHost39,

Then the article states according to Stu, his words, The Ben Franklin Bridge & The Ben Franklin Parkway downtown Philadelphia The man who narcissistically named a stove after himself was a slaveholder. The final nail in his coffin? He was a toxic male womanizer. Outta here Ben!

Then he goes on to say, Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Station need new names. Tom, was not only a slaveholder but carried on a sexual relationship with one of his slaves. That's worst than pay inequity.

Then says, FDR Park, Named after a president who jailed Japanese Americans....That can't stand.

So In his words if you get rid of the statues then we have to change all of the other monuments as well.

i always thought it is about what you're taught as kids... seems it could be as little as a generation or two, and history as they know is set...

EyeAmYourHost39,

Speaking on parks, the statue of General Ulysses S. Grant at Kelly Drive here in Philly & Fountain Green Drive in Fairmount Park honors an anti-Semite who later became president. During the Civil War, his infamous General Order No. 11 ordered the expulsion of Jews from his military district, portions of Tennessee, Mississippi, & Kentucky. ...according to Stu Tear it down.

Doesn't make one iota of a difference to remember the atrocities of the past, they're being repeated daily, maybe on smaller scales but daily nonetheless.

Possibly yes. I was just going on the theory that it would have to run the life span of the last person taught, so your right, maybe 50 years?

maybe, but if you're taught something as a child, it's harder to let go of it for something else being the truth... mixing half truths and half lies together is the hardest to unravel...

True, like in North Korea, they are taught to believe what they want them to believe so as to keep control.
They've always said a little education is dangerous.

Mikey4YouSweety,

Hey I liked the men in black movie.......I like the real men in black hybrids too....lol

my favorite quote from that movie:

Edwards: Why the big secret? People are smart. They can handle it.

Kay: A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow.
