Are the scriptures below telling a tale of a same sex romantic relationship possible marriage (covenant)?
1 Samuel 18:1-4 "After David had finished talking with Saul, he met Jonathan, the king’s son. There was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David. From that day on Saul kept David with him and wouldn’t let him return home. And Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, because he loved him as he loved himself. Jonathan sealed the pact by taking off his robe and giving it to David, together with his tunic, sword, bow, and belt." 1 Samuel 19:1-7 "Saul now urged his servants and his son Jonathan to assassinate David. But Jonathan, because of his strong affection for David, told him what his father was planning. 'Tomorrow morning,' he warned him, 'you must find a hiding place out in the fields. I’ll ask my father to go out there with me, and I’ll talk to him about you. Then I’ll tell you everything I can find out.' The next morning Jonathan spoke with his father about David, saying many good things about him. 'The king must not sin against his servant David,' Jonathan said. 'He’s never done anything to harm you. He has always helped you in any way he could. Have you forgotten about the time he risked his life to kill the Philistine giant and how the Lord brought a great victory to all Israel as a result? You were certainly happy about it then. Why should you murder an innocent man like David? There is no reason for it at all!' So Saul listened to Jonathan and vowed, 'As surely as the Lord lives, David will not be killed.' Afterward Jonathan called David and told him what had happened. Then he brought David to Saul, and David served in the court as before." 1 Samuel 20:30-42 "Saul boiled with rage at Jonathan. 'You stupid son of a whore!' he swore at him. 'Do you think I don’t know that you want him to be king in your place, shaming yourself and your mother? As long as that son of Jesse is alive, you’ll never be king. Now go and get him so I can kill him!' 'But why should he be put to death?' Jonathan asked his father. 'What has he done?' Then Saul hurled his spear at Jonathan, intending to kill him. So at last Jonathan realized that his father was really determined to kill David. Jonathan left the table in fierce anger and refused to eat on that second day of the festival, for he was crushed by his father’s shameful behavior toward David. The next morning, as agreed, Jonathan went out into the field and took a young boy with him to gather his arrows. 'Start running,' he told the boy, 'so you can find the arrows as I shoot them.' So the boy ran, and Jonathan shot an arrow beyond him. When the boy had almost reached the arrow, Jonathan shouted, 'The arrow is still ahead of you. Hurry, hurry, don’t wait.' So the boy quickly gathered up the arrows and ran back to his master. He, of course, suspected nothing; only Jonathan and David understood the signal. Then Jonathan gave his bow and arrows to the boy and told him to take them back to town. As soon as the boy was gone, David came out from where he had been hiding near the stone pile. Then David bowed three times to Jonathan with his face to the ground. Both of them were in tears as they embraced each other and said good-bye, especially David. At last Jonathan said to David, 'Go in peace, for we have sworn loyalty to each other in the Lord’s name. The Lord is the witness of a bond between us and our children forever.' Then David left, and Jonathan returned to the town. 2 Samuel 1:25-26 "Oh, how the mighty heroes have fallen in battle! Jonathan lies dead on the hills. How I weep for you, my brother Jonathan! Oh, how much I loved you! And your love for me was deep, deeper than the love of women!" |

I would think that in deep friendships that people could have deep love for one another without sexual relationships being involved. I found this site about friendships and the Bible very interesting . I think if interested in this subject it is worth reading and maybe we can all learn how to be better friends from it?

My thoughts on Same sex marriage in even a common sence sort of attitude.
We all make choices in live wether or not we choose to drink, wether or not we choose to exercise, how much we eat, who we get married to ect.. Life is full of choices so is same sex marriage correct? I hate to see people use the "im born this way" attitude. This is saying evoloution allowed a mutation in your body to not want you to reproduce? This counters the evoloution arguement. After all arnt we all suppose to reproduce, we should granted some dont. Same sex marriage, if you believe in this or practice this you have to assume the other is wrong, the right-wrong argument. With this feeling i move on to, as long as same sex marriage is okay we as humans deny reproduction, since this is impossible with such couples, i say this harshly yet being "gay" is not much different than the "alcoholic", "serial killer" "drug addicts". People understand yet choose to make a choice on how they feel, i love my friends, but to be intimate with them is and should not be morally, right granted i make no judgements of their character because of thier choice. WE all make wrong choices, i dont think society needs to accept them. small post on a big issue |

It's hard for non-christians to understand and see the teachings of the Bible as they are meant.
Matthew 13:10-15 "His disciples came and asked him, "Why do you always tell stories when you talk to the people?" Then he explained to them, "You have been permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heavenm but others have not. To those who are open to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But to those who are not listening, even what they have will be taken away from them. That is why I tell these stories, becuase people see what I do, but they really don't see. They hear what I say, but they don't really hear, and they don't understand. This fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah, which says: 'You will hear my word, but you will not understand; You will see what I do, but you will not perceive its meaning. For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes- so there eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.' I'm pretty much a loner now. |

yeah, its in the bible and GOD hates it and HE wiped out 2 cities because of it.The two cities were called Sodom and Gammora.Hey, thats not my opinion, thats just what the bible says. It is my understanding that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because the men of that city, both old and young wanted to rape the angels that were under the protection of Lot. In my opinion it wasn't about homosexual relations, it was about rape. Lot in my opinion is just as guilty of rape for he offered his two virgin daughter's to these men if they would just leave the two angels alone. That in my opinion is sick and Lot is just as guilty and should have burned with the rest of Sodom and Gomorrah. Then later in the story in Genesis 19:30-37 Lot's daughter's get Lot drunk and rape him so that they can get pregnant so that they can preserve their father's seed. In my opinion they too should have burned along with Sodom and Gomorrah. It was rape, not homosexuality, that was being punished in Sodom and Gomorrah, and Lot and his family should have burned as well. But then again the Bible is full of stories like this, "Do as I say and not as I do." |

i say this harshly yet being "gay" is not much different than the "alcoholic", "serial killer" "drug addicts". You can say it any way you want, but you're attempting to pass off unvarnished schmegma as fact when you equate homosexuality with serial murder. One could be prosecuted for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, committing murder and using or possessing drugs, but sodomy laws were finally declared unconsititutional by the Supreme Court in 2003 and largely not enforced previously. Only in places like Iran have the death penalty in place for homosexuals, and I very much doubt any Christians would advocate for such except the Recontructionists. As for the reproduction aspect of your argument, has it ever occurred to you that people without children have a LOT more time to devote to the medicine and the sciences, and have made significant contributions to society? You claim to be a computer nerd-- ever heard of Alan Turing? He was gay, do you think he was on the same moral tier as a serial killer? -Kerry O. |

I'm pretty much a loner now. I understand that too well, but I know several people that have life long friends that they have had through several broken relationships and they are always there for them. I have had the same luck as you, that is why it is so awesome that their friendships have endured through so much over the years. |

Unbelievable!!!!! I am indignant, disgusted, and horrified, that anyone would have the audacity to infer same sex relationships, and the people that love, live, and respect each other, in that relationship, can be remotely associated with alcoholics, serial killers, or drug addicts... Appalled. |

I do not take the scripture quoted to mean that at all. To me it appears they have a deep friendship, a special bond. It refers to Jonathon loving David as a brother. I know girls/women form close bonds so why should I think the same is not possible for a boy/man without thinking it has to be sexual in nature. The NIV version says ...."After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathon became one in spirit with David.... In this instance David was a boy who had just killed their Philistine enemy. He had spoken at length with King Saul and possibly explained his actions and his faith in the Lord, thus attracting the love and loyalty of Jonathon. (hero worship perhaps?) The friendship lasted even after it was clear that David would be his father's sucessor. Giving the robe, sword and belt to my understanding would signify that Jonathon recognized this. I think a lot can depend on what personal experiences one brings into, or leaves out of the reading of the scripture. |

It's merely a progress of sexual perversion. Some may be led astray innocently, but society as a whole in America is becoming more perverse. Without a firm 'foundation' people realize that anything goes.
The breakdown and decay of the American family is the cause of the breakdown and decay in America as a whole. Christians are set against principalities, not on individuals. Unfortunately the "religious" bunch have hijacked the true meaning and are haughty with religious judgement, which is reserved for God alone. A spiritual man 'judges' all things, meaning the discernment of right and wrong. The other type of "judgement" is the passing of sentence or what a person 'deserves' as punishment. Only God knows the heart. |

Oh, and Britty is so right. The unreal bond of Spirit between 2 brothers in agreement is beyond anything of a sexual nature.
