Fire being a very real threat in California and seeing how people suffer who are not prepared to "rise from the ashes" I have a survival bag with basic necessities so I can bug out fast. I would grab my birds and leave the rest of the "stuff". Not worth being hurt or dying that kind of death. Or making my kids suffer my being injured or dying. They know where I will go in an emergency. I also keep copies of documents and precious photos on a DVD in my P.O. Box away from my house. Keeping defensible space, batteries in the smoke detector, and an ABC fire extinguisher charged to put out small fires, and a wrench so I can cut off the gas from the outside of the house chained at the shut off helps my chances that the "good Guys" can save my house. Star.. you sound like me. Up here I think most of us all have a survival bag which holds, food clothing keys to stuff needed.I haven't kept any of my important documents in my house for years. All in a safety deposit box that I can access. I even keep the key in a safe place. I have scanned all my kids pictures etc so they are on flash drive. Some friends of mine lost everything years ago and the one thing they mourned was the pictures of their family. That scared me...

people - first pets - second if I couldn't grab them while getting everyone out first. and my valuables - last .. I don't think your vibrator .. really counts as being valuable.. but then again.. somethings are just hard to replace.. .. JK I still don't get why men are always so incredibly obsessed with vibrators for women ...

I'm really not sure what I'd go for... My cats are mostly outdoors, so when the fire starts they don't need saving (i'm just deciding that for myself, hahaha) - Insurance papers & passport is a bloody good one! I would not have thought of that - My external HD cos all of the data that's on it, including pictures - Photos from the kids when they were younger (before we went digital).. Can't save them all, as I have more than 10 - 15 albums... But I'll grab what I can. And my own album with baby & kiddie pics for sure. Most of the negatives from my kiddies photos are in a safe, which should survive a fire ... That was the whole idea of it, lol - And if there was time to sneak back in, I'd grab as many of my most favourite crystals & crystal skulls as I could . . . Which would mean I'd lose all my paintings
