Topic: Could it be that Jesus Christ is another mythical god in the | |
---|---|
It looks like a nice overview to me... I have seen such comparisons before but that one was quite thorough although some seemed a stretch to me...
Nevertheless there is no doubt that Jesus was far from the first "god" to be "immaculately conceived" and "rise from the dead" etc. Roman and Greek mythology is, for instance, full of stories about gods impregnating mortal women- frequently by visiting earth as an animal and impregnating the woman in that form... As for rising from the dead, this was a common phenomenon prior to recognition by medical communities that people could be in shock or coma and not move for days and still live... some believe vampire mythology is based on these kind of occurances as well... For myself I have only to imagine that I am an unwed pregnant teenager or perhaps a pregnant married woman whose husband has been away or who knows the child to be will look very different from her husband... and I can imagine that she might prefer being laughed at for stating that her child was from a god rather than be stoned or ostracized for adultery or fornication.... Just a thought. |

"1. Both were conceived of a virgin. "
That is complete bull. Horus's mother was never described as a virgin. She was a married woman. "My text is an excerpt from renown archeologist, historian and linguist/etymologist D.M. Murdock thesis. She's a religious scholar, and recently made a fellow of the Committee of Scientific Examination of Religion. " You can't just use her word. I had to really search to find anything about her. Appearantly, nobody takes her seriously. Here is a great refutation of her book. http://www.risenjesus.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=109 Skidoo369, You seem very serious about finding truth, but i think you are on the wrong trail with this Jesus myth crap. If you look into the stories themselves (DON'T BELIEVE THE SYNOPSIS, READ THE STORY YOURSELF), you will find that most of what you have been told is a load of bull. |

The scriptures say study to show yourselves approved. that you may be able to answer every man...He make very true points. Even the picture of JC he is correct. I know what is said is false as he is comparing JC which niether greek or hebrew has a J sound or letter. That came about with the kjv version. He had Easter added for pasha (passover) and untill 50 years ago Hebrews 8:4 made no since because of the saviors name...Blessings.. Miles

Other Names: Heru, Hor, Harendotes/Har-nedj-itef (Horus the Avenger), Har-Pa-Neb-Taui (Horus Lord of the Two Lands)
Patron of: the living Pharaoh, rulers, law, war, young men, light, the sun, many others depending on the particular variant. Appearance: His most common form is that of falcon-headed man, but he is also shown as a falcon, a lion with the head of a falcon, or a sphinx. He is also shown as a falcon resting on the neck of the pharaoh, spreading his wings to either side of the pharaoh's head and whispering guidance in his ear. Description: It is nearly impossible to distinguish a "true" Horus from all his many forms. In fact, Horus is mostly a general term for a great number of falcon gods, some of which were worshipped all over Egypt, others simply had local cults. Yet in all of his forms he is regarded as the prince of the gods and the specific patron of the living ruler. Rarely found depicted without his mother Isis. Which already on the first one blows your theories out the window. But I will go on if you wish. |

spider,
Horus'mother, Isis, was indeed married to Osiris. But after the authority of Thebes had risen, and made Amun into a much more significant god, it later waned, and Amun was assimilated into Ra. In consequence, Amun's consort, Mut, the doting, infertile, and implicitly virginal mother, who by this point had absorbed other goddesses herself, was assimilated into Ra's wife, Isis-Hathor as Mut-Isis-Nekhbet. On occasion, Mut's infertility and implicit virginity was taken into consideration, and so Horus, who was too significant to ignore, had to be explained by saying that Isis became pregnant with magic, when she transformed herself into a kite and flew over Osiris' dead body. Interesting imagery from Luxor Temple explaining this : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:LuxorAmenhetep.gif Also, iconography provides some clues. Scholars believe that Isis worship in late Roman times was an influence behind Catholic development of the cult of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Evidence suggests that this allowed the Catholic Church to absorb a huge number of converts who had formerly believed in Isis, and would not have converted unless Catholicism offered them an "Isis-like" female focus for their faith. Iconographically the similarities between the seated Isis holding or suckling the child Horus (Harpocrates) and the seated Mary and the baby Jesus are apparent. : http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/15/MaryAndHorus.JPG Late Roman beliefs regarding the attributes of Isis are almost identical to early Church beliefs regarding Mary. Though the Virgin Mary is not worshiped (only venerated) in Catholicism, her role as a merciful mother figure has parallels with the role formerly played by Isis, while the veneration of Mary in Orthodox and even Anglican tradition is often overlooked. |

Another thing you have to take into account is that as a Christian I believe the Bible to be written by Man as the word of God. Now Im not saying you can't believe whatever it is you want to cuz you can......As I can believe that God is and was and always will be....as Christ is the Son of God who also is, was and always will be.

THE GREATEST STORY EVER REHASHED! Just take a look at the bible itself. You could take the story of the birth of Moses and the story of the birth of Jesus. Both were predicted by a new star to deliver the choosen to freedom. Moses freedom from bondage and Jesus the freedom of original sin. Both survive first born killings from the King or Pharoh that feared their prophetized influence.

“Exod.20
1. [3] Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” The idea that god is presented as a jealous egotist in this mythology is just another reason why I reject it. I don’t believe that the creator of this universe is a jealous egotist. Of course, that doesn’t mean that it can’t be true. But if it is true I’d just as soon not know about it until I have no other choice in the matter. The thought that I was created by a self-centered demon does not appeal to me. |

Now Moshe said a prophet like himself but greater would rise up to listen to him. But I am confused on Moshe being prophesied by a star. Could you show me where that is at? Thanks.. Blessings... Miles |

He is Jealous for his name, Yahweh. You are not even suppose to have the name of anouther diety on your lips. Hence John 5:43 Yahshua came in his fathers name Yahshua= Yahweh is Salvation not Yahshua.. Blessings.... Miles |

Ungodly jealousy is to be jealous of someone
Godly Jealousy is to be jealous for someone for the highest good. |

There was not a star.......
Exod.2 [1] And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. [2] And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. [3] And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink. [4] And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him. [5] And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it. [6] And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children. [7] Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee? [8] And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother. [9] And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it. [10] And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water. [11] And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren. |
