Possibly because I am comfy with silences.

I come from the school of thought..'If you have

I can usually chitchat with just about anyone. I have been there however with a date who didn't say anything much at all. Just "uhuh" and "oh". I mean, FFS! I don't mind listening to what I have to say, but after 15 minutes a monologue that should've been a dialogue becomes quite annoying.
If I gotta do a monologue, I might just as well stay at home, lol. I mean, at least my cats reply, sometimes. Their "meow" and "prrrt" are more than what that guy gave me.

Nah... if there's nothing coming back from the guy, I leave. Too tiring to sit with someone for half an hour, an hour or longer when he really doesn't have anything to say.

Small talk is usually finding out each others simple likes and finding common ground on which to converse on for a bit. At least for me it is.
