I often sit still in a quiet place and go into a deep state of focused thought, I consider it to be a form of meditation.

Yes, regularly, but not the Zen meditation type where you go "OOooohhmm" or try to have no thoughts at all. I like guided meditations and/or visualizations, but also meditate without, I usually do put music on. I have 2 mp3s that work very well for me.
There is a word for this type of meditating, but I can never remember.
When I seek answers, I often go within, I have my own Sacred place to go to, but only do so when I really need advice, answers or guidance.
Sometimes I do a chakra meditation, if I feel my chakras need it.
Typically I clean up before meditating and get some essential oil going.

Just get a comfortable position whichever suits you, eyes open/ close no matter... And think nothing... Not a single thought... Tough but when u practice its awesome... U land into stillness .. Peace.

When you meditate and you are told to 'think nothing'.....it doesn't really mean that you don't think of anything. Our mind will still continue with it's thought processes. When you 'think nothing'....what you do is you let the thoughts continue, but you do not grasp onto to one single thought to think it thru'. Thus, your mind will be able to rest from the 'thoughts' and you can achieve a depth of peacefulness. You will know the difference when you achieve that.

Yes...I have! Took someone to point out to me how not to 'think' to get it.....once you know, unless you are terribly upset or have loads to think of or preoccupied.... it takes just a matter of seconds to 'switch off' and settle down.

I often sit still in a quiet place and go into a deep state of focused thought, I consider it to be a form of meditation.

As Technovative mentioned, there is also another form whereby you actually want to catch that 'thought' when you meditate, whereby you ponder on it to come up with a solution. I have found when I am at a loss as to how to proceed, the answer does pop up when I meditate.

It took me about 6 months to reach the state where I sit and "turn it off"...absolutely helps in real life...have you tried walking meditation?

"Watching Movies" meditation ...

90 mins free from the daily "noise" of extraneous thoughts and worries ...

Concentrating exclusively on the movie will help hugely to filter/block out extraneous unwanted thoughts ... Thoughts about unpaid bills, relationships, work etc etc

Concentrating exclusively on performing the task in hand to the best of your ability can be used in relation to anything ... eg cooking tonight's dinner ... but the act of watching a movie tends to make it fairly automatic ...

Just my view ... shades

Well, 6 months is a relative short time to achieve that....for me, it took years before I actually grasped what it meant by 'not thinking'. But once I understood, I knew to just let the thoughts flow in and flow out without doing anything about it.....i.e. 'wu wei'. The other method being the opposite is 'you wei'.

Walking meditation is not practiced at our temple.... but right next door where we are, the Bodhirama Meditation Centre's practitioners actually do, meditating and walking around the Centre's grounds. I'm not familiar with their practice though.

I've done a wonderful meditation this afternoon :) After a good grounding meditation, connected to and worked on the Mary Magdalene grid.

One that I regularly do, is to go to my Sacred Garden. I designed and created it myself, and as it's always the same, I can tell immediately if something is off, so I can then work on cleansing and sometimes work on my boundaries.
I also go there when I need answers. Sometimes I walk around in my garden and get messages, sometimes I meet someone in my garden who will give me (symbolic) messages. Once I met my power animal there and he took me on an astral travel back in time.
Other times I go there to find inner peace, just to be.
A few months ago it was time to change my Sacred Garden, it got bigger and I changed a few things.

Sometimes I get in a meditative state by simply staring at water, the way it ripples, tiny waves, the light that's reflected off of it.

Walking meditation to me is what I often do when I'm walking in the woods. I connect with the spirit of place, feel the energy of the wind, the air, the trees.
Also when I'm walking the spiral of Archimedes I made in my garden, esp for that purpose. It's an inner journey. Not very large, some 4m diameter. The outer path is anti-clockwise, the rest clockwise. So first you leave behind thoughts and things from the 3D world, then you start going inwards. In the centre of the spiral you feel a perfect connection between Cosmos and Earth. A conduit, total quiet and balance.

Other times I sit in another corner of my garden with a different type of energy, fairy, pagan-like. It's great to sit there and connect with Mother Earth or elementals and nature spirits.
I've done deep cleansings of the soil in those areas of my garden, so they've been cleansed from any old or negative energies.
Sometimes I put crystals and crystal skulls out in the garden to enhance the energies. The idea was to make it a spiritual garden where ppl can come to sit, be, relax, recharge etc.
I'm also working on a Japanese/Asian section, got a Yin Yang symbol done (2 m diameter), bamboo etc. but not finished yet. Somewhere I want Quan Yin energy in my garden, but I haven't found the right place for it yet :/

Those kind of things are my way of meditating, my hedgewitch teach called it "magickal meditating".

I used to meditate a lot. Transcendental, Zen, visualization... I gave a 22 page report on it a few years ago.

Usually it's just visualization now. I find writing and skateboarding to be forms of meditation in a sense though.

Wow.....it is always interesting to find out other ways of meditation and how each separate individual find their connection!!

Crystal....I am looking forward to your pictures of your Asian section with the yin yang symbol, or have you posted in somewhere here. 2m dia. is huge.

A friend once told us of her experience whereby she felt like she was out of her body.... but she had problem getting back in, 2 hours later. It took our 'shi fu' to get her back in. She has been told not to try it again.

I'm still a bit stuck with the Japanese garden bit. It's not that big, mind you. I'm stuck because in the back where it is located, are some 3 really beautiful large bushes that I don't really want (I didn't want them they were there when I moved in). And they're in the way, lol. So I'm still trying to figure out whether I'm gonna go with the flow and leave them there or ask my neighbour to come over with his chainsaw and be done with 'em..
If I decide to leave them where they are, I will have to move two bamboos.
On the other side of this section, the garden can get really really wet during fall and winter, think swamp-like, lol, so it's difficult to choose plants that go with a Japanese garden AND don't mind wet feet.

The beginning:

Not entirely finished, but as good as. My cat loves to sleep on the Yang section, woodchips.

As for leaving the body, I'm not keen on that ... Not sure if I do during my visualizations & travels.. I've understood you can also semi get out of your body.
I have been out of my body a few times though, during workshops, and occasionally happened when I was meditating. I was not amused (read panicking  ). I so NOT like that, and if does happen, and you get scared, you don't come back gently either. It's SMACK and you're in your body again, very unpleasant experience!
These days I can handle it when it happens, don't totally panic anymore, but I still don't like it.
You can travel with your lightbody, not nearly as freaky, cos you don't leave your body like you do with astral traveling. Yet you can go wherever you want, visit ppl hundreds of kilometers away, or other dimensions.
Don't ask me to explain, I can't  Technique I was shown by a medium.
