You know I have always heard about how god can forgive anyone of their sins and yet I have been told by pastors that what I believe will never happen and then ask me to leave as if its the one thing they can't answer but I was wondering if and I do mean if Satan truly knew what he had done was wrong and went to god and asked god to forgive him would god forgive him. The one thing about me is I don't just look at one I look at the other somewhere deep inside of satan has to be that angel he once was and I believe god would forgive him. Don't get me wrong I'm not on his side and I dont agree with what he did but I do believe forgiveness should go to all and not be pointed at some and not others and even if he is a spirit it says that god forgives any that ask what about that. That is a very good question. But, could God actually trust him again? I mean he did think himself above reproach and thought himself to be as good as God and wanted to take His place. He went from favored to totally rejected. Thrown out to spend the rest of eternity wanting and loathing. Vowing vengence against all Gods people. Believing he could reach all of us turning us to evil and doing all he can to murder us spiritually. He is not allowed to actually kill out bodies, but he can lead us to do what he cannot.
It is ashame that one so loved turned out to be so dreaded.

Man that is deep..... satin was 1 of Gods most beautiful greations, but wanted to be greater than God, so God cast him down. Once we leave here we will be judged. We will stay w/God & be above the angels or cast down to be w/satan, if we are spitualy dead. Once you are that far it is too late for forgivness, so it would seem to me that satan is already spiritualy dead, so it would be to late for him at this point. Good question though... Another 1 I will have to ask the Lord.

Most of the time when you pose these types of questions to fundies, they'll insinuate you are guilty of a thought crime against god for even thinking about contradictions like these.

I have another. Suppose someone is responsible for intiating a pre-emptive nuclear strike on a city of millions. And among those millions are people who, just before they were vaporized, had committed thought crimes like lust or covetnous? How just is it that the person or persons responsible for their deaths could repent at their leisure for the heinous crime, be absolved of it, and admitted to heaven, but the people killed who didn't have time to repent on this mortal coil (even if they were so inclined) would be sent inexonabrly to hell because they had zero chance to repent of such minor infractions?

See, that's what I think is the Achilles Heel of many kinds of religion that teach this-- cheap forgiveness. Where, no matter what you do, you go through the motions and you are let off the hook.

Yet, the right wing evangelicals in this country preach a different kind of human law, more like the Code of Hammurabi's (and the Old Testament's, for that matter) eye for an eye. Yet another contradiction, I guess?

Both very deep thoughts from Kerry0 and Jennsbaby77.

I believe God can forgive anyone HE chooses. As for the kind of events described by Kerry0, I have pondered similar things (cases like suicide, etc) and learnt to let it go. God knows what is in their hearts and his judgement will be righteous and merciful. The person may not have fully understood their feelings at a mental level and spoken them out loud, but God knows His sheep, and they know HIS voice. That to me includes everyone, those who cannot speak, here or see, their hearts can and their spirit knows the God who loves them.

One day we will all understand.

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. Corinthians 1 13.12

I do not believe in Satan or a judgemental God so my thinking may not fit your beliefs...

but...

The creator is just that, the one who made everthing and everyone the way that they are- "God" gave us all the potential to do many things- including make terrible mistakes.

How could the one who made you NOT forgive you for your wrong doing?

Is there anything, no matter how greivous, your child could do that you would be unable to forgive if asked to do so? I hope not... I hope that unconditional love is just that... without condition. And that's just for humans- flawed, limited, humans... how much more understanding and forgiveness would come from one capable of creating everything?

I think Satan has gotten a totally bad rap. Consider this - without satan, what would there be to 'challenge' Christians?

After all, how is it possible that God has no control over the likes of a fallen Angel?

Perhaps that old Christian quality of judgement has misjudged on this issue.

Perhaps Satan is actually doing the bigging of God, as God intended. In so doing, how could Satan be wrong and how could God withhold love from the being whose only fault is to follow the bidding of God?????????

Redy, God is in control.

The big question is: 'why did God creat so many of us who are smarter than Him?'noway
And since we are so smart - why are we always asking - why?bigsmile

That’s the wrong question to be asking.

The question is: “why do so many people actually believe in an ancient book of mythology that paints a picture of a god that’s dumber than rocks?”

hmmm just wondering outside of the box...

what if Satan was sent to watch over and protect the lost souls who believe themselves to be damned based upon their religion based fears? What if God is protecting them from man's twisting of truth?

I don't personally buy into the notion of a vengeful punishing God or an evil entity trying to steal souls...there is only one consciousness from which everything breathes life. If there is hell ... we create it.

Jennsbaby;

In order to satisfy your hypothesis - wouldn't this require the God you speak of to be within a time constraint? Also - he culd hardly be omniscient - since you are assuming that Satan's approach Him is something that he was not already aware of.

Also KerryO - your hypothesis also appears to have the underlying assumption that this nuclear strike is somehow a surprise to God, and He is now somehow caught in this dillema of not having allowed enough time for people to make decisions.

Who is this God you both are speaking of?

I think he would forgive him too. However, he has to want it. He has to believe, and ask God to, God won't just forgive him without satan asking.
