We had the question if profile pictures mattered.
I was just going through pictures on another site, with a similar feature as Mingle's Matching thing (clicking yes maybe or no).
And I still cannot believe the profile pictures men use on a dating site. I mean, the idea is to attract women, isn't it? Not to have them run off screaming bluddy murder?
(Not having a go at men btw, I simply don't go thru women's piccies as I have no interest in women)

But on average what you find:
- Men drinking huge glasses of beer (I don't like men that drink a lot) and it doesn't really make for an appealing picture

- men looking extremely grumpy (why the he(k they still put such pictures up on a dating site is beyond me, see that an awful lot)

- men slouching on a bench, settee or whatever, trying to look indifferent? Thing is most men can't get away with nonchalant slouching and still looking attractive

- One actually had about 8 wedding pictures on his profile???? Couldn't work out whether it was his daughter, but I think it was him? Even if it was his daughter, still mighty stupid, if it makes ppl doubt, they'll move on!

- pictures that reveal at least 3 double chins or so many that it has become one enormous bag (at least try to get a somewhat decent pose!)

- men laughing out loud, gob wide open. Unless you're Jim Caviezel, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, this is NOT sexy!!!

- foreign men with turbans and huge beards (makes me feel I'm going thru Interpol's database, looking at possible Taliban members). No offense, but that just don't fit on a Dutch / western dating site!

- an awful lot of married men or "seeing someone"

- landscape pictures with the guy somewhere at the back, miles away. Can't tell if it's even human, just some shape. Could be a mannequin?

- pictures of horrible "hair-do", like gale-force winds are trying to rip their hair off their scalp(outdoor pictures) OR

- their hair looks like a bird is nesting in it (it's dating sites FFS! At least TRY to look the part!)

- and apart from all that, the ones that look like they got two brain cells; one for breathing and one to get a hard-on. Now you can't help being dim I spose, but are there any decent men somewhere out there??? That are still single of course ...

I really can't believe so many men don't put a bit more effort in their profile pics and give it more thought (I mean, wedding pictures?!?!)

And again, maybe women's pictures can be bad too, dunno, as I don't look at them. Maybe I will one day!

I'm almost afraid to ask, but what do I need to change about my pics?

i suppose men would say the same about women's profile pictures- too much pouting-lots of pictures of parts of female bodies men are usually attracted to ( and yes that does include feet!!??)pictures of ladies in a bar, usually accompanied by a very large glass of wine :)
or in some cases, riding a horse/sat on a motorbike/handgliding etc when their faces and features are covered up.
but worse of all are the pictures that don't show the person but instead have a cartoon dog or some flowers or something.

i guess it's each to their own what they deem is acceptable picture, personally i like to have my own picture so in the unlikely event that i meet someone face to face then they are not too disappointed.

and finally yes there are some decent men out there :)

I don't think anything much is wrong with your pictures. You clearly made an effort to have nice pictures of yourself, show what you look like and you have a nice smile.

It's a shame it's not really the done thing to post some examples of what I mean, cos dang, some are unbelievably horrible!

I hate those pouting pictures, taken at an angle. So yesterdays news as far as I'm concerned and it makes most women look incredibly daft and unattractive.
So men do beer, women do wine. Weird.
And feet?? Yuk!!

Crystal, I have thought the very same thing!! May I add:
- pictures of men with the "Come hither" look - simply creeps me out!
- self picture where if he was any closer, I would be able to count his eyelashes. yuck!
- bathroom pictures - c'mon guys, is this as good as it gets!

I know... I'm one to talk with the pictures I have but it's a work privacy thing. I do give out my picture if we are both interested in meeting etc.

yes feet! some men have a thing for feet, i don't get it myself but again, each to their own.

Well, I got vases and I could buy Hoegaarden, so it ain't rocket science. Apart from that I spose Belgians wouldn't frown if you'd ask them to pour Hoegaarden into a vase? We consider the Belgians to be like you English do the Irish. There may even be Belgian pubs where they use vases. Prolly cheaper than beer glasses (Ikea vases, only €1.50 a piece )
