Figured I put it here as most folks checks this general topics first.
Just heard. You could be charged 25.00 for the call and 9.99 per minute. Ya get a number you don't know, good idea not calling it back. It'll ring once and they hang up. Don't give into curiosity. Could cost ya big. |

Another hint, for robo-calls:
If you do NOT say 'Hello' a 2nd time, the recording will not start. (Some are getting 'round this by not programming for the reply anymore.) |

Good thing everyone I talk to lives in America....

Just because it starts out at an American number does not mean the call is not call forwarded to an exhorbitantly expensive toll charge number.
And calling and out of country location means all bets are off about them using your information to also access your IP address and bootleg enough information to hack your computer and watch you through your camera without you even being aware it is on. If you are interested in someone spend a buck and verify what they tell you. Scammers are a lot better than you think they are and if they think you have money or someone in your family has money they don't care what it takes to get it. |

If I do not recognize the number on the Caller ID, I do not answer the phone.

Let's say someone did call and accessed your phone.
How would you know and how could one get it off? |

I would also advise not calling any number listed as usernames or posted in posts.
I have and have given my number to only 2 women on this site. I got to know them well enough on here and through emails to feel confident with them having it. I assured them also, if they ever came to my area, they'd have a safe place to stay and, if they bring a passport, I'd escort them all over the Mexican town I live next to. |

You will get a phone bill that you should audit and challenge immediately But if you can not prove it is not your call you are hung for the bill a good reason to limit long distance and set a limit on your cell phones |

I assured them also, if they ever came to my area, they'd have a safe place to stay and, if they bring a passport, I'd escort them all over the Mexican town I live next to. I would rethink that idea. Escorting someone into Mexico, especially and unknown person, inparticularly a female that could lie to you and be a minor could get you locked up so deep in an Mexican Prison you would NEVER see the light of day again. If you think the American government will even bother to come look you are fooling yourself. You would have NO RIGHTS like you have in a USA jail even for identical charges. Not to mention the STIFF penalties that occur just in the USA for taking a minor across state lines. Even if you do not have sex you could end up with statutory rape charges and a sex offender history for the rest of your life. Believe me I have seen 12 year olds that looked 30. |

Ya get a number you don't know, good idea not calling it back. It'll ring once and they hang up. Don't give into curiosity. Could cost ya big. A scam here in the UK over the festive season in 2012 involved a Card being pushed through your letter box, saying the delivery company had tried to deliver a parcel but you were not home, and to please call the number at the bottom of the card to rearrange a suitable time for delivery. If you called the number, as many people did, you paid 100's in just making the call to a number which did no more than transfer your call to an answering machine located outside of the UK, and took your money. There was no delivery company and no parcel to deliver. The UK telephone companies had no knowledge of what was going on, but they did provide this service - whether they still do I don't know - the lines were closed down on instructions from the Police but the money paid by unsuspecting customers was their loss. It is wise to check any request to call a telephone number you are not sure of, it could save you a lot of money. |
