Topic: Believing in girls.. | |

I believe everyone is an individual and as such should be given the benefit of the doubt until they show otherwise. Thank goodness, a comment from a sane person! I was beginning to doubt I even existed after reading these comments...I almost pinched myself to see if I was real! |

Believng in girls or nt.. Not quite sure what you mean, but on dating sites don't believe half of what you see there are lots of scammers. Always worthwhile to verify the person is real, that they are who they say they are by a Skype call, before you believe them in my opinion. Welcome to Mingle2 and good luck in your search. |

Yep, based solely on the experiences I've had in my little corner of the world. That must be one very tiny corner. |

I am inclined to agree with what pacificstar said and remind all that we prefer to be called women because that is what we are..."girls" implies females who are not yet adults, under age 18. This is an American site and young people that young are not permitted here because it is under the legal age in this country.
So be careful to clarify what you mean by "girls" and, anyone with rigidly serious problems with the opposite gender prolly is not going to be good dating material (either gender) and should do some internal work - prolly not ready to date, but please stay and chat on the forums ans get to know us a people I know I would not date someone who made consistently negative remarks about females on here. just a thought |

Some kids still don't realise that people are here to get to know each other better and hope to find something meaningful so I also agree completely with pacificstar. I'm new to "Mingle2" and after what I've been reading so far, please someone tell me that there is more to it. Cheers

I believe that it's alright to call women girls, or birds even and that I've only ever been told by Americans on the internet that it isn't.

When I was learning Spanish,I asked what was the Spanish term for short woman.
I was told pequina. The first gal I hit on said she was married. In Spanish, I asked her if she knew of a mujer, soltera y pequina. She asked me why I was looking for a very young girl. Hard to say if the foreigners know girl sounds like they are looking for a child. BTW, what I was trying to ask was for a senora chaparita. That means short woman. |

Pity we didn't know each other then, I could have explained the difference. BTW the word should have been "Pequena" but would not have changed the meaning. It does refer to a very small girl. Senora chaparita refers to a grown woman who happens to be short. |

I believe that it's alright to call women girls, or birds even and that I've only ever been told by Americans on the internet that it isn't. right, yes here in the US it is not considered complimentary, for the most, as using the term girls conjures up images of being a pedo which is not viewed as a postive here. Also it suggests that somehow "women" are still girls in adulthood and need to be taken care of or they're helpless, they never grow up, are not capable of adult thought....not positive images. Even if a man here has those types of neanderthal beliefs he usually keeps it to himself - in the workplace - for example- where it could be considered gender discrimination. Yes, that type of thing is important in the US, but I thought most of the developed western world had evolved thusly as well. calling women animal nicknames is generally reserved for those you know well enough to do so....not true across the board but I think your observation about the US is generally true. Some women are more touchy about it than others tho |

Making the changes then we have,
The Elvis 1962 movie "Girls! Girls! Girls!" would become "Ladies! Ladies!, Ladies!" (sounds more like you are in urgent need of the bathroom) The group "The Spice Girls" would become "The Spice Ladies" (just doesn't have the same image somehow) The Mingle2 member sweetestgirl11 would become sweetestlady11 (nahhhhh) |

Some women are more touchy about it than others tho Yeah, we don't go so much in for political correctness like that here. My mum calls women of all ages girls and although it sometimes makes older ladies laugh, my mum means it in a complimentary way and she means to imply that they are youthful. If she refers to someone as "that woman" though it's often because she has a low opinion of them. My mum may be a bit old fashioned but she brought us up to speak properly and when I used to refer to someone as "she", instead of by name she would say, "Who's she? The cat's auntie?" As far as calling them birds goes, it does tend to be more of a working class thing and I guess that some people might be touchy about it. My last girlfriend wasn't though and she called other "girls" that when she wasn't calling them lassies. It's sort of informal. Like calling a guy a guy. Like I said, I've never heard anyone apart from Americans on the internet objecting to this. A few years ago when I first started going on the internet I got into one of those online RPGs and there was someone on that site that I became very friendly with and had a bit of a crush on I suppose. Anyway, one time when we were chatting I got this message from her that said that she wasn't a girl. I thought, "Bloody hell. I've been flirting with a guy". Then she explained to me that "girls" are only females under the age of thirteen. Oh I do love it when Americans try to tell me that I'm not speaking proper English. |
