I think it's because the term is so relative, what's average to me isn't average to someone else. For example, I consider myself fat, compared to what mainstream America considers average, or thin, however, in WV, I'm quite thin by comparison, because being bigger is acceptable and the norm. It depends on your perspective.
Also, some people just lie, I met a guy on the net, claimed he was 5'10," met him person, he might have been 5'6" if that. |

I never looked at other women's profiles, unless someone happened to ask for a rating. But I never looked at what other women claim to be their body type. I happened to click a woman's profile, decided to check a few others as well. It seems ppl have very different views as to what should be considered "average" Kind of makes me wonder why women select "average" when it should be "heavyset". What's the point of lying about it when pictures clearly show you're not average? Maybe they should change "heavyset" to "a whole lot of woman", so it has a nicer ring to it? Average has blurred over into a few extra pounds imo. |

I put average down for my body type and I am a size 6-8. I do not consider by body as athletic or skinny. I do not know what people consider as average either. Lol. What is the going rate for average nowadays? I guess its all depends on the what the person viewing thinks. In other words ,it doesn't matter one little bit what their stupid and narrow minded opinion is. Its what you think of yourself that matters. I do not agree with this. I believe if we all called ourselves average then we would by all liars. You can only have an average if you have the smallest and the largest and in between and calculate what most bodies of your age/height are at. I want some guys' opinions of what they consider average. Just because I am curious what they think Why?????????????????????????????????????????????????? We are on a dating site. I think we all look at body types differently. I have heard guys say they looked at a profile that said the women were average and they met the women and they were far from what they considered average. I asked a couple of my guy friends what I should put as a body type and they agreed I was average. I believe that the words are very subjective and that a number scale should be included so that there are no gray areas Well princess, post a bikini photo and I will tell you! |

Also, some people just lie, I met a guy on the net, claimed he was 5'10," met him person, he might have been 5'6" if that. Hahahaha, understand that frustration. That's 10 cm difference, holy moley. Just imagine wearing your high heels, thinking you're gonna meet a tall guy Average has blurred over into a few extra pounds imo.
What I've seen it blurred over a bit more than that. The doors in my home are just 2'4" wide. I have seen women that likely wouldn't fit through 'em but still claim they're average And sure, no skin of my nose, as long as the door-frame stays in place. And in all seriousness I don't mean any disrespect. But why not simply say "heavyset" instead of fooling yourself. I guess what's considered to be 'average' can indeed vary in different countries or areas. |

I had no clue what to put for the weight question when I saw it. In whose opinion? Mine? Society's? Men's? Crystal Fairy's?
I've been called skinny, fat, athletic, average, and anything in between depending on who you ask. So I used this for an unbiased opinion... The Hamwi formula uses calculations based on frame size and sex to determine ideal weight. The Hamwi formula puts the ideal weight for a medium frame 5-foot tall man at 106 lbs. and a 5-foot tall woman at 100 lbs. For each additional inch higher than 5 feet, men add 6 lbs. and women add 5 lbs. Men and women with small frames subtract 10 percent from the calculations and those with large frames add 10 percent. * *Frame determination: Wrap thumb and index finger around wrist. Easily touch=small Barely touch=medium Not close to touching=large According to this formula, my ideal weight would be 135lbs at 5'7". If average was ideal, I'm probably a few extra pounds which is what I think I have listed now, although it could be listed as average since the average woman in the US is not at her ideal weight. Plus my weight has varied by 10-15 lbs between average and a few extra pounds over all the years I've been here and I don't know when I last updated my profile. I'll go fix it if necessary after I post. I don't want a personal reprimand from anybody for putting the wrong thing. I don't know what men judge me as but I do know I have no problem getting laid so I could give a crap what average is or if I'm below or above it in their eyes, or anybody else's eyes for that matter. As long as I'm getting a piece of tail from my man and he's happy, I'm happy! |

Why would you concern yourself with how women choose to describe their bodies?.... Also, it's not your place to decide if they are lying, who died and put you in charge of "rating" body types?.... I agree totally!! |

The term "average" as used here is defined as: "a level that is typical of a group, class, or series : a middle point between extremes." Thus, it has a specific meaning.
"According studies made by National Center for Health Statistics, our average weight has increased considerably since the 1960. We are roughly 1 inch (2.5 cm) taller, but on an average we are nearly 25 pounds (11.3 kg) heavier! "The average weight for women aged 20-74 increased from 140.2 pounds in 1960 to 164.3 pounds in 2002. "The average weight for men aged 20-74 years rose dramatically from 166.3 pounds in 1960 to 191 pounds in 2002." http://www.foodpyramid.com/healthy-eating/our-weight-has-increased-since-1960-1637/ Since the "average woman" is 5'4" and the "average man" is 5'9", converting those figures to BMI (an admittedly poor index, but the most common in use), the result is approximately 28.5 for both -- well over 25 (considered overweight) and close to 30.0 which is considered obese. AND, those figures are from ten years ago (unlikely to have improved since). So, an "average body type" now evidently means overweight bordering on obesity and "a few extra pounds" must translate to obese. |

I think if you're not BBW and you're not ANOREXIC, then you're average.

This thread reminds me of the tune "Whole lotta Rosie"
If I like you, you're in! I don't care what your body type is.. Years ago I fell for a girl who was what you would call FAT! Sweet, loving, nice, so cool & I wanted to be with her so much but it didn't work out. We had many "fun" times & are still friends to this day. When are people going to stop looking at the box & actually look inside it? jmo folks |

I found it hard to rate my body. I weight lift; so I am muscular and as muscles do weigh more than fat; my weight is high for what is considered average. I have a large body frame with very large shoulders so how do I describe that? Maybe where it says body type; they should leave it blank and tell you to type in your body description.

Oh definitely. I guess it's hard to look at yourself objectively. Or they have a smeared mirror in their bathroom. |

Body Fat Percentage conveys far more information than any of the other measures, particularly for someone who is athletic or muscular. However, few people know what the percentages mean and very few know their own BFP (or perhaps want to know). Testing requires someone skilled with skin fold caliper measurement (at a fitness center or clinic) or with hydrostatic weighing. Of course, none of this matters to those who don't care about "extra pounds" -- and often demean those who do care. |

... Lol. What is the going rate for average nowadays? Not sure, but from what I've seen, it's off the scale Ha ha ha haaaa... And when they say"a few extra pounds",know its a whole lot of extras!! In another thread,a gentleman was complaining about it too...he met someone on here who had listed a body type, only to find there was a lot more of her than athletic!! Take me; am a size 8(top) and a 10(bottom)...based on UK ratings! What would be my body type?? |
