Topic: Marriage VS Relationship | |

I honestly believe people marry because 1. They believe it is a way to keep someone and shows a commitment to that person. If you are in a relationship then you can feel like the end could come at any time. A marriage kind of gives you a sense of a security. Yeah...it is a psychological thing. 2. Tax breaks. Sounds harsh but people will do that. 3. If it is a wealthy man he can marry a woman who is "A perfect 10". It's more of a "Hey. Look at my wife. My possession. My girl". 4. Pregnancy. 5. People want their cake and eat it too. Self explanatory. I honestly believe people marry because 1. They're stupid Totally kidding!!! Seriously. Don't flood my inbox with "how dare you?!" emails. Just being funny with an old friend...marriage is great. Disclaimer: As long as I'm not the one walking down the aisle ![]() So you're getting married 'cause of #4 right? When are you due? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Marriage vs. Relationship Well, for me, it's not the paper and ceremony I'm interested in - it's the man! If he wants marriage, that's fine as long as it's me he wants! ![]() Thank you debbie! ![]() |

After being through the whole divorce/legal mess...I had taken the side of the long term relationship status for any future relationship. Not that I'm holding a grudge or anything,I've been divorced now 7 years. I waited 2 years after divorce to try at love again, with that 5 year relationship ending just a month ago. He had asked me to marry him 3 years ago, but I suggested we wait. Now look, he's locked up until 2016. :( He told me to move on with my life, after waiting 3 yrs for him. Sucks that he did that to me knowing I was waiting, but in all fairness..he did it for my own good. In retrospect, thank goodness I didn't marry him.

If a formal marriage is just a piece of paper, then why would a person in an alleged "committed" relationship be opposed to getting that piece of paper?
I can think of three reasons. 1. The person wants to be able to make a quick exit in the event that the relationship becomes rocky, meaning that the person isn't permanently committed to the relationship. 2. Something in the law of the land prevents the person from legally marrying the person's desired sex partner. For example, suppose that a legally-married woman is separated from her husband, and she wants to have a sexual relationship with another man. The law in her nation won't permit her to legally marry the second man while she is still legally married to the first man, and she doesn't want to become guilty of adultery. So, the woman claims that her commitment to the second man is an informal marriage, and, in her opinion, she wouldn't be committing adultery by having a sexual relationship with him. 3. The person considers formal marriage to be a religious thing, and the person is hostile towards all religion. |

LTR for me would be a requiremen before marriage. I do not deem marriage as absolutely necessary and would junp in if I felt it was going to be forever
or if my partner had never been married and it was important to him but of course all of this is moot until there someone with which to have a LTR...lol ![]() |

Even the possibility of going through a divorce is totally scary tho to those who have been through one- tho and you are widowed right? Are you ever afraid of losing your wife again? I am sorry if I am being too nosy....just trying to give u an idea of what divorce - scaries feels like to some of us I really believed in 4 ever thru thick n thin etc etc when I stood at that altar soooo many years ago.......apparently I was the only one I would love to get married if I could believe that it was 4evah :) |

As "sweetest" stated: I really believed in 4 ever thru thick n thin etc etc when I stood at that altar soooo many years ago....... apparently I was the only one!
I was the only one as well! Sad to say! I felt like such a failure! It took me a long time to understand that I did give it my all and then some! I am not against marriage at all. I think matrimony should not be taken lightly and it is a lifelong commitment before God. At this time in my life, it isn't about marriage. It's about finding myself a good honest man to whom I can devote all of my love for the rest of my days and vice versa. So, 1. I'm not looking for a quick exit. I believe that I know how to communicate effectively, to negotiate, and to not be selfish. I know about compromizing as I have raised 2 children on my own. I also do not ever fight dirty nor name call. So, no exit for me. I also know that fighting over something that isn't going to matter in a few years, is pointless. I prefer to live with laughter in my heart. 2. I have been divorced over 20 years so I am legally divorced, no ifs, ands or buts. 3. I am not hostile towards any religion. Actually some religions are most interesting. I have become more of a spiritual person. I strongly believe in treating people with respect and dignity always no matter who they are (race, color, religion, status, wealthy/poor, etc.). Every day I try to be kind, compassionate, supportive, and loving. Perhaps you need a #4 for the older crowd who have been there and done that and know what it takes to make a relationship work and are willing to do exactly that. Everyday in our lives is precious. We know what commitment is about and a formal piece of paper is neither here nor there. Our union will be blessed by our loving hearts. Peace and love, my friend! ![]() |
