I'm not a huge koontz fan really.. but there are a few in his genre that I do enjoy.. Piers Anthony, Terry Goodkind, Ron L Hubbard.. and several more.. however some stray a wee bit into the 'fantasy' realm as well.. another too is R.A. Salvatore..

I love his older books like Phantoms, Whispers, Watchers, Darkfall. I also enjoyed From The Corner Of His Eye. I also have his illustrated children's book for adults- Oddkins which is really good.

from Ron L Hubbard I really like "Battlefield Earth" nothing at ALL like the very bad movie they made from it.. there was just too much to the original novel to put into the flick so they hacked it up pretty badly.. and to add insult to injury.. it was taped out back of where I used to live.. however John Travolta is a pretty decent guy!

from Piers Anthony I'd suggest the Xanth series.. lite and airy but punny

from Terry Goodkind you get the Sword of Truth series.. they made a short lived TV series out of it but again.. fell short of the mark and didn't last longer than 2 seasons cuz they started somewhere in the middle.. oye

I liked the Forgotten Realms series with Drizzt the Dark Elf.. there's a ton on this character only.. this of course by R.A. Salvatore

there's a few others you might like but check them out online to get a feel and see if any interest you.. if any do.. let me know..

if that's the case.. another to consume (in my opinion) is the Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon.. big book but GREAT story-line..

also another one I found to be a great read is the Mithgar series starting with "the eye of the hunter" by Dennis L. McKiernan..

I'm into books that really spark the imagination, very descriptive and in-depth story-line.. so those I've suggested so far are filled with that type of fodder..

however they're not the 'scary' type of cliffhangers.. more like you just don't wanna put the book down cuz you REALLY wanna know what's gonna happen to your 'hero' next.. bigsmile enjoy! drinker

I just recently re read Battlefield Earth for the umpteenth time, I have a paperback that I've owned since high school, it's rough looking but still in one piece, though I've taped up the cover to keep it from falling apart. A few Christmases ago one of my sister's bought me a really nice hardbound edition of it, but I'll keep reading the paperback version :D

Other excellent fantasy works are The Wheel Of Time series by Robert Jordan, I think the 14th and final book is being released.

Stephen Donaldson's The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever- There's 3 trilogies.

And I highly recommend Stephen King's Dark Tower series, great blend of fantasy, scifi, western. His prequel The Wind Through The Keyhole was recently released.

Speaking of Stephen King- 11/22/63 is a fantastic time travel novel, one of his best books I've read.

 definitely a fave of mine.. I've only read it twice though.. seems with anything (book or movie) if I don't wait a REALLY long time between re-reading or viewing.. 5 mins into it and I remember the WHOLE thing, like I JUST read it yesterday.. which kinda sucks.. ohwell

you should be able to find it pretty much anywhere that sells science fiction novels.. if ya can.. try the phone book (or yellowpages online) to find your local places and give'em a call.. saves loads of time searching physically.. it they don't, try e-bay..

actually.. here's one that's on sale for the next 15hrs.. it's about $5.00
