This is really stupid. Now criminals know where to go to rob homes that probably have no guns... or where to do to steal guns. Someone should sue them for being stupid.

Westchester Newspaper Sparks Outrage By Printing Gun-Owners' Names And Addresses

Earlier this week, Westchester newspaper the Journal News decided to jump headfirst into the gun control debate by releasing the names and addresses of registered handgun owners in Westchester and Rockland Counties. (The map above shows where they live.) And naturally, by doing so they enraged a whole bunch of people with guns, as well as a few without them.

In an accompanying article, the Journal News explained that in the wake of the Newtown shootings, people in their area were pushing lawmakers to make information about gun owners more public, and they were interested in seeing how many Lower Hudson Valley residents either owned or lived next door to someone who owned a gun (or two, or three).

They used the Freedom of Information act to request the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in three counties—public information by New York State law—and put the records together in one color-coded, interactive Google map. And look at all those guns!
After that, things pretty much hit the fan. Though some readers were glad gun ownership in their area was exposed, others were outraged that this information had gone public. They slammed the piece, calling it a dangerous invasion of privacy. As tends to happen in gun-control forums these days, things got pretty heated in the comments:

Unintended consequences of FOIA coupled with permits to allow a right.

With all the names and addresses printed and available the criminals can now plan their home invasions..... on the homes NOT listed of course!

That will help with their pity party on unarmed civilians and further promote their gun ban agenda.... backed of course by the very people they are allowing to be subjected by these actions.

Just because information is available, that doesn't mean it should be made public. I hope the newspaper gets sued for invasion of privacy. If you looked hard enough, you could find public documents with SS numbers, driver's license numbers, and the like. Making them public would be damaging and to no public good.

I think it will be the gun owner's homes that get robbed as now there is a known valuable in each home.

Highly doubtful. Would you be that stupid?

In any case, illegal guns are often stolen. Most legal gun owners don't keep their weapons loaded and beside their bed.

A gun thief would do better burglarizing a gun shop, but if he knows a person who has guns in the home, he might pick a time when that person is not home.

So if you are after guns, you would know where to go.

Hence, it is advisable to store firearms in a gun locker.

In this particular case, a blogger gave the newspaper a taste of its own medicine.

From The Christian Science Monitor:

Among the most outspoken critics of the Journal News’s controversial gun map project is lawyer and author Charles Fountain, who blogs at “For What It’s Worth.”

This week, he published the names, addresses and other contact information for the newspaper's publisher, editor, and other staff members connected with the news story and map.

I thought the gun was there for protection? Doesnt being nervous about a gun possibly being on premise STOP criminals,,?

isnt that the gun advocate position?

confusing,,,

in any case, yes, its stupid to post such lists, unless there is a record of the resident having USED their gun

then I think its as valuable as a pedophile list,,,

, but wait, I actually oppose those too

I doubt criminals into home invasions and petty robberies spend alot of time memorizing lists, reading papers, or memorizing lists in the papers,,lol

its just as stupid as the person posting a SIGN that their neighbor had no gun (and also suggesting that they do), that person wasnt scared of being robbed of their gun,, apparently,.,

some things are better left unknown and private, this is one of them,,besides, because someone is not yet on record as owning a g un doesnt mean they dont have someone elses, and just because they are recorded as owning one doesnt mean they kept it,,,

I'm okay with this because it will backfire on the smart aleck who posted the names due to criminals now knowing which homes to avoid.

I am just curious if you can grow up for even a second?

Criminals are NOT stupid, most burglaries occur when no one is home.

I swear it is odd to constantly have to explain the obvious.

HAAAAA

so why the need for the gun? if most burglaries occur when no one is home (or in danger)?

either way, its double talk,,,,

Msharmony, I think you just like to argue with these kinds of silly statements.

If you want to side with the evil empire and suggest that the citizens be disarmed or that they should go along with that crap and hand in their guns, then you will be treated as being complicit in all of their crimes. You are the enemy of liberty and freedom and you stand with tyranny.

You should stop playing innocent or ignorant. No one is falling for that. Now I know you are more intelligent than that so if you want to side with tyranny, and the global plan to disarm this country like they did in Britain, just admit it. We all know you love and protect Obama and awakened people know that he is a puppet of the rich Elite.

Its not double talk at all. Some situations are not burglaries, some home invasions occur when your home, that does not change the fact that most criminals are not stupid and will follow the path of least resistance. Both situations occur.

Your trying so hard at a gotcha moment that you are making yourself look terribly ignorant and child like.

nah, IM neither ignorant or child like, just trying to motivate some consistency in the arguments

in one thread the claim is that when there are more guns , criminals dont commit as much violence

in another thread the claim is that if criminals know there are guns, they will rob a place JUST for the gun

,,so, should I believe that the gun is there to protect people IN case the criminal comes in when they are home

BUT if the criminals know they arent home, they will come in the house JUST to steal the gun, as opposed to being thieves that would break in to rob an empty house of valuables PERIOD?

and if they are the criminals who case a home to wait for someone to leave,, what good is the gun doing the owner?

see what I Mean,, inconsistent, silly,,,

Well duh, msharmony, no one wants nutcases to have easy access to semi automatics. That looks like a no brainer, right?

But you are not seeing the whole picture. You are one of those people who are so easily manipulated, that you unknowingly support a ruthless Criminal organization, (which is the Elite globalist Cabal of Banksters) who bought and paid for your Precious President Obama. (They backed his campaign with billions and billions of dollars so yes, THEY OWN HIM.)

And there were a lot of good German people who supported and backed Hitler too. They just didn't know any better.

So unless you plan to change horses in mid stream, you cannot be trusted by freedom loving Americans. You stand behind your man. Obama, the dictator puppet.
