Topic: Avoiding "Catfish" Posters

Recently watched a program about "Catfish" Posters; people who pretend to be someone they are not even cross gender and it really made me wonder how many times there are people out there that just do it as a form of "entertainment"? I generally figure if some one is not getting serious about communicateing in person or at least on camera (which makes lieing MUCH harder) after a reasonable period they are this kind of on-line creep and ditch them but wonder how many of these "catfish" are in the pond?

I always think it is easier to know who
someone really is by reading their posts
in the forums over an extended period of
time, than anything they tell you.

I don't think this is completely true. I'm sure most people here think I'm a total jerk. But, that's because in the forums you only see one aspect of my personality. The opinionated, argumentative part.

I also have a very silly side that seldom comes out here because I don't like to take threads off topic.

Yes that is so true. That has worked for me more times than not. I know it is a drag for new people to try to post when time is limited but it does give a good look into their character and behavior. Sad to say I have seen some "rat themselves out" over the long haul as well as the short haul.

Will say that it is nice to see some of the good folks find other good folks and move forward in their lives together. Find myself doing the happy dance in my heart when that happens. Find I sure put up a lot of prayers for those folks. Glad our Mingle family seems to have and environment that allows for those folks to stay around and be a part of helping. Gives everyone hope and fellowship in what sometimes can be rough roads.

Well even if I don't agree with some view some folks have I try not to write anyone off for one thing. I may pray that they are influenced in a more acceptable direction to my view but I will defend to the death their right to live and believe what they see as their "lifestyle".

I keep hoping a certain smart talented gent will find some peer age sizzleing hot "CHICK" (lol yea I get the term is sometimes a major compliment) that holds his attention long term so he can stick around in good health and lasting happiness a good long time.

Personally I think life without being opinionated and arguementative at times is just surrendure and that is pretty sad too. I get that anal I hope someone kicks my behind or thows dirt on top of me. lol

Yea sadly I have seen a couple I kind of wondered about. Disappointing because I hope I haven'tbeen gun shy an just written someone off as being a phoney when maybe they were afraid of just chatting.

I do think some people fall into a rut of haveing a cyber mate and want to just ride along in the pen-pal stage cuz getting burned in real life relationships or the realities of LDR's are too hard.

I know one guy that if he were closer I bet we would be more than pen pals. I don't know; this old gray mare is sure feeling the years this soggy Sacramento winter. lol

You haveing fun seeing all the Santa Clauses floating around? I do love the guys with beards myself.

Yea I think that is a good way to see if someone is "real"? Any opinions on that? I know some get a bad rap on that and I can understand being cautious but several are free so I am kind of wondering why more have not picked up on it?

I love that show! I thought they gave the one girl really good advice about receiving pics. Have the person hold up something with your name on it in the pic.

You don't know a man until you meet in person. I've met many inperson and they were themself as on line. That happens rare. But I take time before I meet any Man.

The Image Finder didn't turn up any results but I have had luck with the pics thing. One person refused but the rest proved they were real.

That movie was terrific! Anybody who actually plans on meeting people off of the internet should see it.

I use a lot of aliases on the internet because people still stalk me... so it's always really difficult to explain to people why different groups of people know me under different names.

I've always valued freedom and privacy. Which is funny. Because I'm on the internet... which isn't free.

Hi,
I was wondering if there are any single zombies in the area. I'm looking for a freshly converted specimen who died between the ages 19-22. I have a thing for limbs, it doesn't matter if they are severed or intact, but the more the merrier. Nothing too gruesome though, I consider myself a woman of class, but I'm fairly open-minded and up for anything. I am knowledgable of subjects, and enjoy deep theoretical discussions about the inevitable zombie apocalypse. You may not see the urgency in preparation but fear not, I'm building a zombie-proof ark made out of tupperware containers. Feel free to contact me.
