Maybe for some; it just isn't that important to dress up, maintain weight, or put effort into their appearance. I think if they are happy; what does it matter? It matters because the rest of us have to look at you. You only get one chance to make a first impression. We all judge others based on their appearance. I know we should judge a person by their character, but the fact is we simply don't (unless you're someone like billionaire Steve Jobs and have a widely known reputation). People that don't take care of themselves are seen as lazy by people that do. And it is lazy because it takes no more time to dress well than to be a slob. I used to watch What Hot to Wear on TLC. I was fascinated that they could take a person that was a 3 and by simply changing their clothes and cutting their hair they were turned into a 7 or 8. It takes so little effort once you understand what it takes to dress your body type. Clothes can make a person look taller, shorter, wider or thiner. It's all about fit. You don't have to follow the trends, just discover what looks best on you and stick with it. Then you look in a mirror and think "damn, I look gooooood!" And people will treat you differently, better. |

I think there is way too much emphasis on looks these days.... It is exhausting looking your best.... I no longer obsess over it....what you see is what you get now....I'm not expected to dress up for work and I don't...jeans, t-shirt sweatshirt, sneakers or boots...that's about it Nonsense. Most people these days look terrible. I'm not saying everyone should be wearing tuxedos and ball gowns. But, what's the problem with a woman choosing a top with a neck line that's flattering to her? Why not ballet slippers instead of sneakers? Men need to throw out all those sports and concert t shirts and try a good fitting polo instead. And please, buy jeans that actually fit your waist! No one wants to look at your butt crack. |

I find to look my best its all about the attitude. I can make normal clothes look good. However I will say when you know you look good you tend to feel good too soooo getting dressed up is fun. I don't mind wearing a suit now and then although it has been quite some time. lol.

You can dress anyway you want but if you don't have that perfect face or body; no one gives a crap what you wear; at least not here where I live. |

You can dress anyway you want but if you don't have that perfect face or body; no one gives a crap what you wear; at least not here where I live. Believe what you want. But, I have found that by wearing a suite I'm more likely to get a free upgrade to business class when flying (being over six feet tall, this is welcomed). I'm treated better when shopping and in bars and restaurants when dressed well. When I walk into a room, people stand up straight, smile and work harder to please me than when I'm just in jeans and a T shirt. Even little babies react differently when they see me. I have a black velvet blazer with white pinstripes. When I wear it women have run down the street after me just to touch it. They don't do that when I'm wearing leather. And believe me, it ain't because I'm all that pretty. I also have clothes I bought second hand at goodwill and took to a tailor. So, it's not about how much you spend. But,it goes both ways. When I was young, I dressed like a thug. Levies with holes in the knees, leather biker jacket and boots. Women would move their children away from me in check out lines. I was followed around because people thought I was going to shoplift or start trouble. When you dress better, you feel better and this confidence projects outward. Others WILL notice. |

you know my problem with constantly looking nice?
what happens when you REALLY have to dress up? you're going to look the same. o.O that's why it's nice to constantly wear jeans and t-shirts. the day you feel it necessary to get all dressed up for whatever reason it's going to be very noticeable and, hopefully, a nice surprise for the audience. |

I love dressing up for holiday parties and going to fun places with dress codes. I went to The Magic Castle in LA and they had a dress code for cocktail dresses, that was really fun, it was like going to prom and we got a limo. Thanks Paula for the killer birthday!

Most of the time I want to be "anonymous." I want to come and go freely and just "blend" into the "woodworks."...I don't want any "spotlights" on me. I enjoy being private..I don't want to be "singled-out." I don't want to be the center of attention!

I enjoy being private..I don't want to be "singled-out." I don't want to be the center of attention! I am the same way but when you wear a uniform; it does get a lot of attention. Funny thing is we have had mass murderers here that wore business suits so you learn real quick that clothes do not make the person. When someone is more casual though; I tend to think of them laid back and actually approachable where as business suits tend to tell me the person is a snob or stuck up. |

Uniforms are hot. I like seeing men in uniform or heading to work in a suit. I also like when he takes the suit off and gets casual, that is the moment when you realize they are yours and can be comfortable with you and you trust each other. I was hot one day, but I had my jeans and my BF told me to put his shorts on. He didn't care, I'm still his sexy lady whether I have tight jeans on or a pair of his tshirt and boxers. It's my eyes and smile that make him happy.

Sorry; I am just not buying it. Okay. But just open your mind and consider the possibility that changing your clothes could change your life. Which of these looks do you think gets more of the right kind of attention? http://www.blogcdn.com/main.stylelist.com/media/2010/05/mission-makeover-connie-before-after-590sd05242010.jpg |

Sure, suits and uniforms generally command more respect, but unless the occasion calls for major dressing up, it's a turn-off for me to see someone all suited and booted all the time. I am attracted to people that are laid-back and down-to-earth. For this reason, I find that suits/designer wear are merely status symbols (that of which I care nothing for).

I made myself over in my early 40 and have enjoyed the benefits for several years now. If none of you want to try something new and prefer staying in your safe, anonymous place I wish you the best. |

She seems happy and comfortable with what she is wearing. |

i'm curious; do you think someone in t-shirt and jeans can look good? It's not about what a person wears. It's about how they wear it, the fit. But, sweatshirts are just bad, all the time. It's like covering your self with a fat shirt. I'm in jeans and T shirts most of the time. I like American Eagle jeans and Fruit of the Loom pocketed work T shirts because of the fit. I never wear anything baggy or tight. |
