Strangely enough this is very important to her. I said no before I began this post just to see what public consensus is. Thank you posters for giving me your views. :-P

Totage, thank you for clarifying your post. You are right and I never thought of that. I dont think teenage boys think like that, but who knows? A creepy male teacher has already stepped over the line with her, by flirting with her. She was shocked. Sorry for not being clear in my first post. Oh yes teen age boys do think like that. I should know, I used to be one. :P From your posts, she seems to have a good head on her shoulders, and perhaps the piercing is more of a rebellious thing to her. She seems to have an amazing mother, so I think she'll be fine. :) |

I would not go for it simply because it is just not necessary. Tell the teen she is created perfect and that is how you still see her/him.
If you picked the place doing it and checked them out as safe I would still be against it because kids generally are not that careful about contaminateing something and it would be a pretty serious place to have a complication. Involve her speech, dental stability, stomach could be perforated if they accidently swallow it. metal allergy for a few possibilities. Also what they want as teens is often not what they want when they are even a few months older or they have a falling out with a friend. Seems like a teachable moment to get a conversation going about all kinds of related issues so I would try not to get at real odds over saying no. |

Coming from the view of an 18 year old, I would say to do her a favor and say no. You'll do her much better in life by teaching her not to do what all her friends are doing. I may be young, but I know how those kind of people grow up to be. Life with friends is very short compared to life in the real world.

tell her she will get it when hell freezes..lol.. My dear, it is not even open for discussion. Her friends do it, but then she should learn to filter good from bad.

My 13.yr old wants her nose done for her 14.th b.day if she gets good grades then she can have it done AND PAY ATTENTION TO WHERE ITS DONE AT ALONG WITH PROPERLY TAKEN CARE OF. Not all piercings are sexual I have my tounge done, eyebrow and nose doesn't mean I'm looking to give head, she's old enough to choose and in the end its not my body its her's the legal age in most shops is eighteen unless parental consent is givin that includes her ears its not mine to pierce its hers

I told both my girls they had to wait until they were 18 for any piercings or tattoos except their ears.

I told both my girls they had to wait until they were 18 for any piercings or tattoos except their ears. Don't forget to show them the pictures though and have anyone you may know who has had a bad experience fill them in. One of our friends had a nice abdominal abscess which arose out of her navel piercing. Yuck. There are some really nasty nose piercing infections which happen sometimes too. Even with excellent hygiene a nasty bug can find a point of irritation to exploit. One sad story was when a friend's daughter discovered that her skin scars very badly when pierced or cut. She is prone to keloid scarring so when she receives any injury the scarring extends well beyond the injured area. It can be very disfiguring. Most of our friends have had piercings removed by now if they ever had any. |

No, it's not safe. They can be unsafe when they get their own medical insurance.

tongue piercings seriously affect the speech, enunciation of words goes out the window. sounds like baby talk jibberish in the beginning. actually, none of the above, lol my error, first line should have read, tongue piercings seriously affect the speech "in the beginning" it ebbs as time passes and most have no noticable word pronunciations problems after that. |

Lol, this is my amusing daughter's request...would you allow it? Her defense is so many of her friends have their tongue pierced. Ummm just say no. Ask a dentist, they will tell you the jewelry knocks the enamel off the teeth. This is not a good thing. |

Because HepC is so common a complication from unsterile pierceing and Tats I think I would have a requirement that they have a serious time volunteering at a dental clinic, hospital, skilled nurseing facility, or dyalissis unit ( sorry I think I flubbing my spelling for sure)so they see the hidden long term effects.
HUGE Part of my very conservative views about sexual activity are from doing Hospice care. Granted this is not a "sexual thing" but you are going to bleed and contamination in the mouth is no joke. Neither are failed teeth. It only takes damageing one to set you back the price of a car because teeth tend to have a domino effect. Kids are savy about money if you expalin it to them. GIving them an excuse helps them resist the pressure of their peers. I was not above useing car keys as leverage on several issues. Some things are just that important and I told my kids that is why so it was something they agreed to. And I told them tell your friends I am a Master Sgt. ***** Mom if it makes it easier for you. We'd laugh about it but it did help them. It actually kept one of their friends from getting a belly ring because I made it known I would not allow her in our pool. The kids loved coming around because they could have fun but things didn't get out of control. |

A friend of my hair dresser's daughter was driving herself home from getting her tongue pierced and went into aliphatic shock. Her tongue swelled cutting off her air. She totaled her car and ram another car. She almost died.
And guys so totally will be picturing their winkie in her mouth. AND it does totally chip your teeth and change your speech. |

EUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! But I am not in your shoes! This is just my take on it if I were her father at least! And we all know I am not!!! |

From a student blog on piercings.
The Tongue Ring The stereotype of a pierced tongue is that it will allow for more pleasurable oral sex for the receiver. According to BME, this is true and something that may surprise some is that women can actually get more stimulation than men when receiving oral sex from someone with a tongue ring. The tongue piercing is the most common piercing people get in order to increase sexual stimulation. The Web site everything2.com claims that the reason women tend to get the most benefits from oral sex with a tongue ring is that the ball of the ring can directly stimulate the clitoris. On a male, the ball acts as a massage for the movable skin on the shaft of the penis. However, BME cautions that having a tongue ring will not guarantee awesome oral sex - skill must come first. www.dailycampus.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- Your kid hang with some pretty wild freaks? |

I have had my tongue pierced for many years now, and I have no problem whatsoever with enunciation. Never have. Only when it is swollen immediately after getting it done. the enunciation comes back when the swelling goes down.
