Now if we apply the same pressures to Israel we can get them to sign the Non Proliferation treaty. All we would realy have to do is withold american aid for a few months...........No need to bluster and threaten as in Iran......... Tiocfaidh ár lá our day will come The situation we have now is totaly absurd, threaten and bluster and economicly boycot one country for what you suspect it may have or could one day have and support economicly and politicly another country that allready has the bomb and refuses to sign the non proliferation treaty. Is it just me that feels it is a moronoic position? It's called ‘anticipatory self-defense’ |

Did the Republic of Iran state that Israel "Must be wiped off the map." or were they talking about the Zionist Regime? **** Here is one of your favorite sources, Wikipedia: Translation controversy Many news sources repeated the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting statement by Ahmadinejad that "Israel must be wiped off the map",[5][6] an English idiom which means to "cause a place to stop existing",[7] or to "obliterate totally",[8] or "destroy completely".[9] The Iranian presidential website stated that "the Zionist Regime of Israel faces a deadend and will under God's grace be wiped off the map," and "the Zionist Regime that is a usurper and illegitimate regime and a cancerous tumor should be wiped off the map."[10] Ahmadinejad's phrase was "بايد از صفحه روزگار محو شود" according to the text published on the President's Office's website.[11] The translation presented by the official Islamic Republic News Agency has been challenged by Arash Norouzi, who says the statement "wiped off the map" was never made and that Ahmadinejad did not refer to the nation or land mass of Israel, but to the "regime occupying Jerusalem". Norouzi translated the original Persian to English, with the result, "the Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time."[12] Juan Cole, a University of Michigan Professor of Modern Middle East and South Asian History, agrees that Ahmadinejad's statement should be translated as, "the Imam said that this regime occupying Jerusalem (een rezhim-e eshghalgar-e qods) must [vanish from] the page of time (bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad)."[13] According to Cole, "Ahmadinejad did not say he was going to 'wipe Israel off the map' because no such idiom exists in Persian." Instead, "he did say he hoped its regime, i.e., a Jewish-Zionist state occupying Jerusalem, would collapse."[14] The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) translated the phrase similarly, as "this regime" must be "eliminated from the pages of history."[15] None of these translations, however, are entirely accurate. First, they downplay the significance of the introductory, main sentence, to which the controversial statement "eliminated from the pages of history" is subordinate. In his speech, Ahmadinejad introduced the theme of Israel's elimination by saying 'Imam-e aziz-e-ma farmoudand ke...', which means, 'Our dear Imam commanded that...' In other words, he introduced the exhortation to eliminate Israel by referring to the religious authority of Ayatollah Khomeini as well as the many statements, speeches and comments Khomeini made over the years about Israel. Secondly, the phrase 'bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad' means more than the passive, and slightly ambiguous 'must be eliminated from the pages of history.' It more literally translates into: 'it is necessary (or 'it is imperative') that it be eliminated from the pages of history.' Once one puts the entire sentence together, it thus reads: 'Our dear Imam commanded that it is necessary that the regime of occupation of Jerusalem be eliminated from the pages of history.' The use of a passive verb is akin to the famous passive form used by Cato the Elder, to call for the destruction of Rome's archenemy, Carthage: Delenda Cartago. The latin passive was nevertheless clear in its meaning - Cato wished to exhort the citizens and leaders of Republican Rome to destroy Carthage - which they eventually did [16]. Iranian government sources denied that Ahmadinejad issued any sort of threat. On 20 February 2006, Iran's foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki told a news conference: "How is it possible to remove a country from the map? He is talking about the regime. We do not recognize legally this regime."[17][18][19] "Arash Norouzi, who says the statement "wiped off the map" was never made and that Ahmadinejad did not refer to the nation or land mass of Israel, but to the "regime occupying Jerusalem" No one said they were going to blow up the LAND... Iran says (and Norouzzi agrees) he meant blow up the PEOPLE The PEOPLE of the regime of the land of Israel are the JEWS who live there. Ahmadinejad said he wants to wipe JEWS off the face of the map. They can dance around the head of a pin all they want. It is what they believe. They have threatened it often and they have to be taken seriously even if they are nutballs. Crazed religious fundamentalists who seek end of days apocalypse and threaten to commit genocide must never be permitted to have nuclear weapons. See the documentary Iranium for example... http://youtu.be/mXRXnmsvwRQ Unless you can prove to me that all Jews are Zionists and that all Jews are involved in the Zionists regime then you are wrong. If you can get every Jew or every person who claims to be a Jew to say that they support Zionism and are part of the Zionist regime, then you are blowing smoke. Is that what you are claiming? That all Jews are Zionists? Prove it. whats that got to do with killing all the jews in Israel? Nobody threatened to kill all the Jews in Israel. your the one who posted that Iran said it... No, that was slowhand. I posted stuff from wikipedia about how that claim was wrong, and just mistranslated. Iran said they want to put an end to the Zionist regime. You really need to read the posts more carefully. The translation presented by the official Islamic Republic News Agency has been challenged by Arash Norouzi, who says the statement "wiped off the map" was never made and that Ahmadinejad did not refer to the nation or land mass of Israel, but to the "regime occupying Jerusalem".
YOU just said it AGAIN! Arash Norouzi is quoted as saying that the correct interpretation is that Iran wants the regime occupying Jerusalem wiped off the map he is talking about the Jews in Israel! That goes right to my point. No matter how you interpret it, it is a threat of genocide. And of course there are many other incidents of the leaders of Iran and their proxies Hezbollah and Hamas exhorting crowds for "Death to America. Death to Israel." At least they are consistent however you translate "wiping Israel off the face of the map"... Hooo Boy! That is where your thinking is messed up. Just because the "Zionist regime" happen to be people who claim to be "Jews" does not mean that they are hated because they are Jews. It is the regime they hate. It is the REGIME, THE GOVERNMENT OF ISRAEL THEY WANT DESTROYED. You are mistaking a regime FOR an ethnic group. (JEWS) Unless of course you are trying to claim that every Jew is a Zionist and that every Zionist is a Jew. If so, then PROVE IT. Then you probably think that everyone in Israel is Jewish too. Zionism is to Israel as Americanism is to America. Zion is a synonym for Israel. Patriotic Israelis are pro-Zionism just as patriotic Americans are pro-Americanism. Most Israelis - about 75% are Jewish. This is what is hateful to the Iranians. They would have no complaints if Israel was being run by Muslims. You don't know what a Jew is. Jewish means identifying with the Jewish religion in it's various forms - both very strict - like orthodox or very lax like secular Jews. Just like Christians include all those who identify with Christianity whether they never go to church or they go religiously every Sunday. Iran wants "Death to Israel" and this means death to those who live in Israel and since this is basically Jews and the Jews are the main group they want to kill (they say they don't want to kill Muslims or Christians for example) then Iran is simply threatening another Holocaust of killing Jews. Again. Now all your questions are answered. Who is a Jew, Who is a Zionist, and why Iran calling for wiping Israel off the face of the map means exhortation to genocide. Simple as 2+2=4 any elementary school child can understand it. The only ones who can't figure it out are the chronically prejudiced and/or the antisemites. I came in late and it's a long thread. Is anyone saying that Iran's goal is NOT the destruction of Israel? The Arab countries have already tried. And they continue to try... JB said in an earlier post that the term "Israel wiped off the map" was being misinterpreted. But the authority she cited only said that he didn't think it referred to getting rid of the land mass but referred to getting rid of the regime. But when you say you are going wipe the country off the face of the map then even if it applies to getting rid of the govt alone it also means "not having a Jewish state" and is tantamount to saying "get rid of the Jews of Israel". This is why people interpret the remarks to mean that Iran is advocating genocide. But just in case one is puzzled - it is always easy to find public speeches like those in the movie Iranium which have video of massive radical Islamic crowds being whipped up by Iranian govt leaders and their Hamas and Hezbollah proxies with chants of "Death to Israel" and "Death to America". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXRXnmsvwRQ The inane premise of this thread was that Iran is somehow benign despite their pursuit of nuclear weapons technology in contravention of their NPT treaty obligations and despite official calling for wiping Israel off the face of the map and calling for Death to Israel and Death to the United States and despite Iran being demonstrably the current worst state sponsor of terrorism - killing innocent civilians.... So yeah.... |

My understanding is that Iran does not like the political regime known as Zionism. Since the whole idea of Zionism is to establish the state of Israel as a safe haven for Jews I'm sure they are closely linked. If Israel would just be a normal country and not be so ethnically driven and so determined to collect as many Jews (for their state) as possible, I don't think there would be any problems in the middle east. Jews claim that everyone hates them and that everyone wants to annihilate them and they they need a safe haven. They use this to justify their aggressive regime and call it "self defense." But to hate anyone because of their religion or their ethnicity is illogical. People hate other people because they fear them. Why do people fear Jews? Answer that question. define normal... is Iran normal? why is Israel not normal? A "normal" country would be one that is not driven (by paranoia or whatever) to attempt to collect a single tribe or ethnicity of people into one area for no good reason except that they claim to be hated and persecuted all over the world and feel that they deserve a land of their own. (Or because of the ridiculous claim that they are the chosen people and God gave them the land.) A normal country is like America or England or Switzerland or Australia or Canada. It is a country that has citizens of all races, creeds, skin colors and religions and they don't make a fuss about whether or not your mother is of a particular tribe or ethnicity. There are a lot of people in this world who claim to be Jews, but there is only one tribe that is really welcome and holds high status in Israel. Nothing about Israel's ethnic discrimination policies are normal. Jews do not need to move to Israel. Jews can (and do) live all over the entire world. Why would they want to go to Israel and live in a place surrounded by people they claim are their enemies and want them annihilated? None of that is logical or normal. The religious myths that surround the middle east and the temple mount and so-called end-time prophecies is what all of this B.S. is about. Nothing more than that. People need to put these myths behind them and learn to live together in peace... but I assure you they never will.... because people are ignorant. |

"Chosen people" refers not to land or Israel but that Jews believe that they are expected by their religious beliefs to be particularly ethical and righteous examples for others to follow. This is what they were "chosen" to do by virtue of god giving them inspiration. And about Israel and the other nations you cite.... Israel is the ONLY nation in the Mideast which has freedom of religion, freedom of the press, treats all citizens with equal rights by law and with equal women's rights - regardless of race or creed. Just like the US, Canada, Australia, England, Switzerland etc. etc. Israel and the Zionists are the ONLY country in the Mideast which does NOT discriminate based on religion or ethnicity or gender. You are exactly wrong on that point. Jews are not allowed to live freely in much of the world actually. Particularly in Islamic countries they face extreme persecution and Christians and other religions do also but Jews in particular were driven out of most Islamic countries along with Europe under the threat of extermination during WWII. Nowadays there are very few places with Jews which is too bad really. The only countries with any significant Jewish population anymore are Israel, U S A and Russia with a much smaller number in South America and remnants in Europe. Jews go to Israel or America just so they have a safe place to practice their religion with a community of other Jews. Israel does not discriminate but they do assure that Jews will have a safe place to live in this traditional homeland of the Jews. |

I was actually answering a question posed by mightymoe.
I am certainly not defending backwards countries with radical religious regimes like some Islamic countries. I am sure they discriminate against everyone who does not conform, not just Jews. Israel lays claim to non discrimination, but there is a noticeable class distinction between all ethnic groups in Israel. They are prejudice and play favorites to certain ethnic groups. But as long as a country proclaims how free they are (including America) they have to at least try to keep up appearances. |

But Jews have been hated and feared (and apparently oppressed) long before Hitler was even in the picture. Thanks for stating the obvious. Mein Kampf is a principle source for studying Anti-Semitism (why people hate Jews) in the 20th Century-a component of Modern History studies at my Alma Mater. |

And Back to the 21st Century and right back on Topic
Remembering is Good BUT------Iran vs Israel: What The Media Wants You To Forget The corporate media have been given their orders to throw the focus back on to Iran. Here is a recap of what they are trying to make you forget. 1. Last Spring, Rose Gottemoeller, an assistant secretary of state and Washington's chief nuclear arms negotiator, asked Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Israel refused. 2. The United Nations passed a resolution calling on Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and to submit to inspections. Israel refused. 3. The IAEA asked Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and to submit to inspections. Israel refused. 4. Iran's formal notification to the IAEA of the planned construction of the backup fuel-rod facility underscores that Iran is playing by the rules of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which Iran has signed. 5. Iran allows IAEA inspections of all its facilities. 6. Contrary to face-saving claims, it appears that the US and Israel were both caught off guard by Iran's announcement of a planned underground (to avoid being bombed) enrichment facility. The reasoning is simple. Had the US or Israel announced the existence of he new facility before Iran's notified the IAEA, it would have put Iran on the defensive. As it is now, the US and Israel seem to be playing catch up, casting doubt on the veracity of Israel's claims to "know" that Iran is a nuclear threat. 7. The IAEA and all 16 United States Intelligence Agencies are unanimous in agreement that Iran is not building and does not possess nuclear weapons. 8. In 1986, Mordachai Vanunu blew the whistle and provided photographs showing Israel's clandestine nuclear weapons factory underneath the reactor at Dimona. 9. Israel made the same accusations against Iraq that it is making against Iran, leading up to Israel's bombing of the power station at Osirik. Following the invasion of 2003, international experts examined the ruins of the power station at Osirik and found no evidence of a clandestine weapons factory in the rubble. 10. The United Nations has just released the Goldstone Report, a scathing report which accuses Israel of 37 specific war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza earlier this year. Israel has denounced the report as "Anti-Semitic (even though Judge Goldstone is himself Jewish), and the United States will block the report from being referred to the War Crimes Tribunal at the Hague, thereby making the US Government an accessory after-the-fact. 11. Recently revealed documents prove not only that Israel has nuclear weapos, but actually tried to sell some to Apartheid South Africa. Who else Israel approached to sell nuclear weapons remains an unasked question. 12. In 1965, Israel stole over 200-600 pounds of weapons-grade uranium from the United States. 13. Declassified documents from the former South African regime prove not only that Israel has had nuclear weapons for decades, but has tried to sell them to other countries! We all need to be Joe Wilson right now. We need to stand up and scream, "LIAR!" at every politician and every talking media moron that is pushing this war in Iran. And we need to keep dong it until they get the message that we will not be deceived any more. Israel wants to send your kids off to die in Iran, and YOU are the only one that can stop them. http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/IranvIsrael.php |

Hitler's Philosophy is alive and well! So is Luther's and the Catholic Church's! Read this, and read it good: http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Nuclear_Non-Proliferation_Treaty Three states - India, Pakistan, and Israel - have declined to sign the treaty. All three possess nuclear weapons, which would be prohibited had any of them ratified the treaty. These countries argue that the NPT creates a club of "nuclear haves" and a larger group of "nuclear have-nots" by restricting the legal possession of nuclear weapons to those states that tested them before 1967, but the treaty never explains on what ethical grounds such a distinction is valid. so what is you all problem with Israel? |

Oh yes. Back to Iran and Israel...
Iran is the world's worst state sponsor of terrorism - actively killing thousands of innocent people and tyrannically abusing their own citizens. Israel is a free democratic society which honors and respects all religions with a thriving economy and culture. Israel does not attack others unless directly threatened and when they do defend themselves they do it with a minimum of required force and do their best to prevent civilian injuries. Iran threatens Israel and the U.S. with genocide openly. Iran sponsors killings of innocent men, women and children civilians. Iran sponsors terrorists in Afghanistan killing US troops. Iran spreads IED technology. Iran smuggles arms to Hamas and Hezbollah. Iran enriches nuclear weapon material in fortified underground bunkers. Iran brutally terrorizes its minority Jewish and Christian population. Iran imprisons and abuses any dissenting political opinion. Israel is the only Mideast country with full freedom of religion. Israel is the only Mideast country with freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Israel openly accepts and protects those with dissenting political opinions. Israel fights against terrorist killing of innocent civilians. Israel has a vibrant democracy with full rights for minorities and women. Israel is a world leader in medicine and technology for peaceful purposes. Israel is a safe place for Jews as well as Christians and Muslims. The case of Iran vs Israel is pretty clear actually. Read more about it here: In March 2006, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said, "Iran has been the country that has been in many ways a kind of central banker for terrorism in important regions like Lebanon through Hezbollah in the Middle East, in the Palestinian Territories, and we have deep concerns about what Iran is doing in the south of Iraq." http://www.cfr.org/iran/state-sponsors-iran/p9362#p2 |

When america’s own chief military prosecutors denounce trials of alleged “terrorists,” the media and the public should take notice. But not in america where the government believes its own lies as fervently as the brainwashed public believes the presstitute media.
Astonishingly, before a show trial could dispatch Khalid Sheikh Mohammed as the Mastermind of 9/11, the US government has produced a new culprit. It was not Osama bin Laden nor Sheikh Mohammed, but Iran that is responsible for 9/11. In a US federal court judgment issued in December 2011, Iran was found guilty of the 9/11 attacks (ref). So who is responsible for 9/11? If not bin Laden, why did the Navy Seals allegedly murder him? If not Sheikh Mohammed, why is he being put on trial after being tortured for years? The answer is that the criminals in Washington, who control our lives, no longer care about any of their previous propaganda. They now want to attack another country on totally false pretenses, as does the extreme right-wing Israeli government, the cancer of the Middle East. |

Something substantial this time! None of those Ventura,Chomsky,Finkelstein,Icke-Tirades! Sure glad you don't consider Assad,Bignose and his Clerics as Cancer! The ones who have exported Terrorism for Decades! Man oh Man! Actually Iran had involvement! But I guess that doesn't matter to you! Nope, you haven't looked at the killing by Assad, and at the incessant killing by the Regime in Tehran, yet you call Israel a Cancer in the ME! Holy ***! |

The corporate media have been given their orders to throw the focus back on to Iran. Israel wants to send your kids off to die in Iran, and YOU are the only one that can stop them. http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/IranvIsrael.php Israel is not! <<<<< Three states - India, Pakistan, and Israel - have declined to sign the treaty. South Africa undertook a nuclear weapons program, allegedly with the assistance of Israel, and may have detonated a nuclear test over the Atlantic, but has since renounced its nuclear program and signed the treaty in the early 1990s after destroying its small nuclear arsenal. India and Pakistan have publicly announced possession of nuclear weapons, and have detonated nuclear tests. Israel has been developing nuclear weapons at its Dimona site in the Negev since 1958, and is believed to have stockpiled between 100 to 200 warheads. The Israeli government refuses to confirm or deny these claims, although this is now regarded as an open secret after scientist Mordechai Vanunu revealed the program to an English newspaper<<<<. <<<<North Korea ratified the treaty, but revoked its signature after a dispute with inspectors over inspections of non-declared nuclear facilities. Iran also signed, but as of 2004 is under suspicion of having violated the treaty through an active program to develop nuclear weapons. The International Atomic Energy Agency is investigating. <<<<< http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Nuclear_Non-Proliferation_Treaty |
